How to choose the number of days

Three days just covers the two major attractions in Luoyang and one stop in Shaolin, suitable for first-time office workers or families who don't want to rush to Henan.

On the first day, arrive in Zhengzhou → Luoyang → Laojun Mountain (Suluan River)

Arrive at Zhengzhou East Station before 10am and take the high-speed train to Luoyang Longmen Station, which takes about 40 minutes and costs about 65 yuan for a second-class seat.

After leaving the station, transfer to a tourist bus from Luoyang to Luanchuan (about 2.5 hours) or charter a car (about 1.5 hours).

In the afternoon, climb Laojun Mountain. The cableway is divided into two levels: the first level (Zhongling/Yunjing) round-trip is 130 yuan, the second level (Fenglin) round-trip is 80 yuan, and the ticket is 100 yuan.

Staying at the mountain inn in the evening is convenient for watching the sunrise the next day. After dinner, you can take a walk near Jinding and watch the sunset dyeing the Golden Hall.

Attention: Before departure, be sure to check the closure notice and cableway maintenance notice of Laojun Mountain on that day.

The next day, the sun rises on Laojun Mountain and goes to Longmen Grottoes (staying in Luoyang city)

The sunrise in summer is around 5:30, and you can arrive at the Golden Summit Observation Deck 30 minutes in advance. The sea of clouds and Taoist temples are all in the same frame, giving it a strong cinematic feel.

Before 8 o'clock, the mountain will descend and Luanchuan will return to the city center of Luoyang in about 2.5 hours.

In the afternoon, head straight to Longmen Grottoes (adult 90/student 45). It is recommended to enter from the northwest service area, first see the Lushena Buddha of Fengxian Temple, then walk to Dongshan Grottoes, and finally cross Manshui Bridge to Xiangshan Temple and Bai Juyi Cemetery. The whole journey takes about 3 hours.

In the evening, I returned to the city center and tasted Luoyang water mats at the Cross Street Night Market (no soup, sliced meat with soup, peony and swallow vegetables).

On the third day, Shaolin Temple will return to Zhengzhou

Luoyang to Dengfeng is about an hour's drive (you can also take the high-speed railway to Zhengzhou East and then transfer to Dengfeng).

The Shaolin Temple Pass is 80 yuan (including regular hospitalization at Shaolin Temple, Tallinn, and martial arts performances), and 40 yuan for students.

In the morning, watch the martial arts performance (usually at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 respectively, with additional performances in peak seasons). The central axis runs from south to north: the mountain gate → the Temple of Heavenly Kings → the the Shakya ManiHall → the Sutra Pavilion → the Abbot's Room → the Thousand Buddha Hall (the mural "Five hundred Arhat facing Pilu" inside the hall is a must see).

In the afternoon, depart from Tallinn (the largest existing ancient pagoda group in China) and then head back to Zhengzhou East.

Avoiding pitfalls reminder

1. The closure of Laojun Mountain often occurs in winter freezing or cableway maintenance period. Check the official official account the day before departure.

2. The Longmen Grottoes will stop selling tickets after 4 pm, and it is recommended to enter the park from 14-15 pm.

3. The Shaolin Temple "scenic sightseeing bus" is not necessary and often requires hospitalization. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to Tallinn.
