Day 1 Xi'an – City Wall – Big Wild Goose Pagoda – Datang Everbright City
Afternoon bike ride on Xi'an City Wall; evening at Big Wild Goose Pagoda North Square fountain, then night stroll at Datang Everbright City. [Attraction intro] Xi’an City Wall: Official: A Ming-dynasty city wall 13.74 km around, the largest and best-preserved ancient city wall in China; Yongning (South) Gate is the most intact. Personal note: Rent a bike and ride a section; South Gate up and Hanguang Gate down is classic. Evening offers sunset and lights.; Big Wild Goose Pagoda: Official: In Ci’en Temple south of Xi’an, built in 652 by Xuanzang to house scriptures from India—a city landmark with a famous north-square music fountain. Personal note: At night the fountain and lit pagoda are beautiful; temple/pagoda entry is separate. Nearby Datang Everbright City is worth a stroll.; Datang Everbright City: Official: A pedestrian cultural street extending from the south square of Xi’an’s Big Wild Goose Pagoda, famed for Tang-style architecture, night shows, lights and viral performances. Personal note: Evening to late night is busiest; check show times. Hanfu photographs very well here.
Day 2 Xi'an – Terracotta Army – Huaqing Pool (exterior)
Full day at the Terracotta Army with a professional guide; on the way back view Huaqing Pool and Lishan. Overnight in Xi'an. [Attraction intro] Terracotta Army: Official: The burial pits of Qin Shi Huang’s mausoleum, discovered in 1974 and a 1987 World Heritage Site; Pits 1–3 yielded ~8,000 pottery figures and horses. Personal note: Pit 1 is most stunning—get a guide. Lots of walking; pair with Huaqing Pool and Lishan.
Day 3 Xi'an – Mount Huashan Day Trip
Full day at Mount Huashan: West cable car up, North cable car down, visiting West, South and North peaks to experience “the most precipitous mountain under heaven.” [Attraction intro] Mount Huashan: Official: One of the Five Great Mountains, famed as “the most precipitous mountain under heaven.” South Peak is 2,154.9 m; Plank Walk, Eagle Turn and Thousand-Foot Cliff are its classic thrill routes. Personal note: West cable car up and North cable car down saves energy and covers the main peaks. Gloves are essential; acrophobes should pace themselves.
Day 4 Xi'an – Small Wild Goose Pagoda – Xi'an Museum – Transfer out
Morning at Small Wild Goose Pagoda and Xi'an Museum; afternoon transfer to the station. [Attraction intro] Small Wild Goose Pagoda: Official: A Tang-dynasty multi-eave brick pagoda in Jianfu Temple, Xi’an, built in 707, originally 15 stories, now 13—an important marker of Tang Chang’an, sharing grounds with Xi’an Museum. Personal note: Quiet setting; visit together with Xi’an Museum. Fewer crowds on weekdays, good for a slow look.; Xi’an Museum: Official: Inside the Small Wild Goose Pagoda scenic area, focusing on Xi’an urban history and Zhou–Qin–Han–Tang artifacts, a quick window into the city’s past. Personal note: Best paired with Small Wild Goose Pagoda. Closed Tuesdays; special exhibits may need booking.
