Day 1: Yangtze River Three Gorges

Today, the theme is the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. Avoid peak crowds and enter the park at off-peak times, following the recommended route for an in-depth tour. Enjoy local specialties for lunch nearby, then spend the afternoon on free activities or follow the guide for additional sightseeing, and return to the hotel in the evening to rest.

Attraction Introduction: On this stop, we come to the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, which consist of the Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge, and Xiling Gorge, known for their grandeur, beauty, and danger. The Kuimen of Qutang Gorge is depicted on the back of the ten-yuan banknote. The twelve peaks of Wu Gorge and the Goddess Peak inspire daydreams. Xiling Gorge is famous for the Three Gorges Dam and Gezhouba Dam. Cruising between the gorges on a riverboat, the green mountains on both sides form picturesque scenery and are the most iconic views of the Yangtze River. My understanding is that when taking a cruise to see the gorges, choosing a good deck spot is very important; the river scenery is most beautiful in the early morning and at dusk. Be aware that the riverside wind is strong and there is a significant temperature difference between morning and evening.

Tips: Signal may be poor in the canyon area, so agree on a meeting point with the guide in advance and do not go off alone. Tourists generally feel that seeing the gorges from a cruise is the easiest; they say Qutang Gorge is the most magnificent. Remember to choose a good cabin, and whether to visit Fengdu Ghost City depends on personal interest. Considering the actual situation, conserve your energy: tackle the main sights in the morning when you are fresh, slow down in the afternoon, and don’t overexert yourself on the first day, so you won’t feel exhausted in the following days.

Day 2: Three Gorges Dam

Gather in the morning and depart for the Three Gorges Dam, following the main tour route with the guide to cover all the key scenic spots, allowing ample time for photography and rest; enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, continue exploring in the afternoon, and check into the hotel in the evening to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction introduction: Today's itinerary includes the Three Gorges Dam. Located in Yichang, Hubei, it is the world's largest hydropower project, with a majestic and imposing dam structure. The Tanziling Observation Deck offers a panoramic view of the dam, the 185 Platform allows a closer look at the dam structure, and the Diversion Memorial Park records its construction history. This is an excellent site to learn about China's hydraulic engineering. My understanding is to view the overall panorama from Tanziling, then experience the grandeur of the dam up close at the 185 Platform; as a key national project, following the guide during the visit helps better appreciate its significance.

Friendly tips: The canyon water-access sections are slippery, so be sure to wear non-slip water shoes or sports shoes, and keep valuables like mobile phones waterproofed. Visitors generally report that most think the Three Gorges Dam is worth a dedicated visit; it is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide’s explanations, and leave time for the details that touch you most and the spots best suited for photos. Respect local customs according to the actual situation; dress appropriately in religious sites, do not point randomly, and a simple greeting can win you kindness.

Day 3: Chongqing

Set off from the hotel early in the morning straight to Chongqing. First, listen to the tour guide explain the background and highlights, then enjoy a leisurely free walk, taking photos of spots of interest. After lunch, take a short rest, and return to the hotel in the evening to conserve energy for the next day.

Attraction introduction: One of the highlights of the itinerary is Chongqing, a mountain city built on hills and a riverside city at the confluence of two rivers. Landmarks include the night view of Hongya Cave, Liziba monorail passing through buildings, and Ciqikou Ancient Town. Hot pot and spicy noodles are the city's most distinctive flavors, and its 8D terrain offers scenic views around every corner. In my understanding, the mountaintop is windy with significant temperature differences, so a windproof jacket and a thermos are essential; don’t go lightly dressed and risk freezing yourself.

Warm tips: The mountains have a large temperature difference between morning and evening, and the mountaintop is windy, so a windproof jacket and warm base layers are necessary. Tourists generally feedback that the mountain city's hot pot and night view are the soul of the city, and many say the 8D magical terrain is exhilarating; beware navigation often fails, and the food is very spicy, so bring some stomach medicine. Considering the practical situation, joining a tour is best not rushed; listening to explanations is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than the photos, so ask the tour guide immediately if you don’t understand something.

Day 4: Free activities

Today is a free activity day with no set itinerary; you can leisurely explore the areas around the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, sleep in, choose food and neighborhoods based on your interests, or go back to take photos at spots you felt were missed in previous days.

Friendly reminder: Free activity days are suitable for catching up on sleep and strolling at a relaxed pace. It is recommended to rest in the morning, explore and eat according to your interests in the afternoon, and avoid staying out too late in the evening to prevent affecting the next day's schedule. Tourists generally feedback that frequent travelers like to reserve free activity days for local food and streets to experience the most authentic local life. Depending on your situation, carry some change and small packaged snacks with you; they can be useful when signals are poor in scenic areas or for sudden snacks, so don’t wait until you’re hungry to look for food.
