Day 1: Shaolin Temple

In the morning, gather and depart for Shaolin Temple, follow the guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; at noon, enjoy local specialty cuisine, and in the evening, check into the hotel to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights arranged in the itinerary is Shaolin Temple. Shaolin Temple is located at the foot of Wuru Peak on Shaoshi Mountain in Dengfeng and was first established in the 19th year of the Taihe era of the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 495). It is both the ancestral home of Zen Buddhism and the birthplace of Shaolin martial arts, with a history of over fifteen hundred years. The main points of interest are concentrated in three areas: the Changzhu Courtyard along the central axis includes the Shanmen Gate, Heavenly King Hall, Great Hero Hall, Sutra Library, and Lixue Pavilion, with halls and ancient steles lined up along the way; the Pagoda Forest is the largest surviving ancient pagoda complex in China, featuring over 200 brick-and-stone pagodas from the Tang, Song, to Qing dynasties, each corresponding to a revered monk; the Bodhidharma Cave on Wuru Peak is legendary as the place where Bodhidharma meditated facing a wall for nine years. The Martial Arts Hall hosts Shaolin martial arts performances every day on a fixed schedule, showcasing real skills in fist techniques, weaponry, and qigong. My understanding is, first follow the guide along the central axis of the temple before exploring freely; please maintain silence and walk around the pagodas in the Pagoda Forest; for the martial arts performance, arrive 15 minutes early to get a good spot.

Tips: There are many incense vendors around the temple, so buy incense as needed and spend rationally. Visitors generally report that the martial arts performance is most popular with families with children, while the Pagoda Forest and the First Ancestor’s Shrine are often overlooked; note that the scenic area is quite commercialized, so check prices before dining on vegetarian meals or other purchases. According to actual conditions, manage your energy appropriately: tackle the main attractions in the morning when you are fresh, slow down in the afternoon, and avoid exhausting yourself on the first day so you still have energy for the following days.

Day 2: Only Henan

Gather in the morning and depart for Only Henan, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photography and rest; have a local specialty meal at noon, and check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is Only Henan. 'Only Henan · Drama Fantasy City' is located in Zhongmu, Zhengzhou. It is a large theatrical settlement built with loess, showcasing the hardships, harvest, and resilience of Central Plains civilization through more than twenty theaters and nearly a hundred performances. The main theaters' large productions such as 'Fantasy City', 'Train Station', and 'Li Family Village' have excellent reputations, while the small theaters each possess unique creativity, with the imagery of wheat waves running throughout, making it a phenomenal cultural tourism landmark of Henan. This is not a traditional attraction, but an immersive cultural experience. My understanding is that you should reserve a full day, schedule the main theater performances first, and then intersperse visits to the small theaters; book tickets in advance through official channels and check the show schedule carefully, as popular performances often sell out.

Friendly Tips: Canyon water routes are slippery, so be sure to wear anti-slip creek shoes or sports shoes, and keep valuables like mobile phones waterproofed. Visitors generally feedback that the immersive experience at the Drama Fantasy City is popular with young people, but tickets are expensive and time-consuming; it is recommended to choose the main theaters and reserve at least half a day. Based on actual conditions, respect local customs, dress appropriately when entering religious sites, avoid pointing around casually, and a simple greeting can earn you kindness.

Day 3: Red Flag Canal

Gather in the morning and depart for Red Flag Canal. Follow the tour guide to visit the key attractions, with ample time reserved for taking photos and resting. At noon, enjoy local specialty cuisine, and in the evening, check into the hotel to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is at Red Flag Canal. Red Flag Canal is an 'artificial river in the sky' carved out by the people of Linzhou in the 1960s along the sheer cliffs of the Taihang Mountains. It stretches over 1,500 kilometers, levels 1,250 mountaintops, builds more than 150 aqueducts, and carves through over 200 tunnels. It took nearly ten years to complete and stands as a monument to the unyielding spirit of the Chinese nation. The Youth Cave is the most dangerous section of the route, chiseled out on a cliff by 300 youth team members; the Fen Shui Garden and Red Flag Canal Memorial Hall comprehensively depict the hardships of building the canal. This place combines red education with the grandeur of the Taihang Mountains and is now also a breathtaking cultural landscape. My understanding is that visiting the memorial hall first to learn about the canal's background, and then walking through the Youth Cave, is the only way to truly grasp the significance of this canal; when hiking along the canal, proceed according to your ability, wear non-slip shoes, and watch your step.

Tips: The mountainous area experiences significant temperature differences between morning and evening, and it is windy at the summit. A windproof jacket and warm inner layers are very necessary. Tourists generally report that the 'artificial river in the sky' has strong symbolic value, resonating more with middle-aged visitors. It's advised to listen carefully to the exhibition explanations to understand that period of history. In practice, the worst thing on a guided tour is to just rush through; listening to the guide is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more unforgettable than the photos, so ask the guide immediately if you don't understand something.
