Day 1: Longmen Grottoes

Assemble in the morning and depart for Longmen Grottoes, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing plenty of time for photos and rest; at noon, enjoy a local specialty meal, and in the evening check into the hotel to rest and recharge for the next day’s itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Longmen Grottoes attractions. Longmen Grottoes was carved on the cliff walls along both sides of the Yi River in the southern part of Luoyang city. Construction continued from the time Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei moved the capital to Luoyang and spanned multiple dynasties including the Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, and Tang. Currently, there are more than 2,300 niches, over 100,000 statues, and more than 2,800 engraved inscriptions. The most impressive is the Giant Buddha of Fengxian Temple, Luoheshna, which is over seventeen meters in height, with a full face and eyes full of kindness, said to have been modeled after the appearance of Empress Wu Zetian, representing the peak of Tang Dynasty stone carving art. Along with Dunhuang Mogao Caves and Datong Yungang Grottoes, it is recognized as one of China’s three major grottoes and also a World Cultural Heritage site. During the visit, start from the West Mountain Grottoes along the Yi River walkway heading south; Binyang Three Caves, Wanfo Cave, and Lotus Cave each have interesting features. After crossing the bridge to the East Mountain Worship Terrace, you can overlook the full panorama. My suggestion is to first visit the main caves of West Mountain in the morning to enjoy the Giant Buddha with fewer crowds, and in the afternoon go to the East Mountain to view from the terrace—the lighting and angles are best for photography; walking along both sides of the Yi River requires retracing steps, so a comfortable pair of shoes saves a lot of effort.

Tips: The grottoes are mostly built on cliffs, so keep a distance from the cliff walls and hold onto railings, and take care of the elderly and children. Tourists generally feedback that most find the Giant Buddha of Fengxian Temple the most amazing, and the sunset at West Mountain offers the best lighting for photos; walking along both sides of the Yi River requires retracing steps, so it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and allow half a day. Depending on the actual situation, the best time for photos is early morning or late afternoon—fewer people and soft light in the morning, golden glow at sunset, while around noon the light is harsh and the area is crowded, better reserved for rest.

Day 2: Jiguan Cave

Gather in the morning and depart for Jiguan Cave, follow the guide to visit key attractions, and allow plenty of time for photos and rest; Enjoy local specialties at noon, then check into the hotel in the evening to recharge and prepare for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction introduction: This stop is Jiguan Cave. Jiguan Cave is the karst cave in Luanchuan. Inside, stalactites are varied in countless shapes, with stalagmites, pillars, and flowers illuminating the lights to create stunning colors. The temperature remains pleasant year-round, and the weather is warm in winter and cool in summer. The cave is densely packed with scenic spots, with changing views as you walk. With explanations, you can understand the wonders of geological changes over hundreds of millions of years. It complements Longtan Grand Canyon with a cave and a gorge, making it a classic geological wonder route in western Henan. My understanding is that when entering the cave, remember to follow the guide. The formation and naming of stalactites are quite interesting, and it's easy to miss the highlights when you look at them yourself; The cave floor is slippery and some areas are low, so wear non-slip shoes and watch your head.

Friendly reminder: The climbing section has many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with mobility difficulties are advised to take the cable car up and down. Visitors generally report that most think Jiguan Cave is worth a special trip. It's recommended to slow down and follow the guide to listen to the explanation, saving time for the most impressive details and the best camera angles. Based on actual conditions, the biggest concern on long trips is dehydration: carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently; On the first night in plateau or mountainous areas, don't wash your hair or shower too long; give your body some room to adjust.

Day 3: Laojun Mountain

Gather in the morning and depart for Laojun Mountain. Follow the guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for taking photos and resting; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes the Laojun Mountain attraction, located in Luoyang Luanchuan County. It is the main peak of the Funiu Mountains and a famous Taoist mountain, traditionally believed to be the place where the founder of Taoism, Laozi, retired for cultivation. The Jin Ding Taoist temple complex stands atop a peak over 2,000 meters above sea level, with golden tiled roofs and red walls, surrounded by rolling seas of clouds, and is praised as 'a stunning feast in the human world, a glimpse of the world's grandeur.' The Ten-Mile Painted Screen is the highlight of the route, featuring a high-altitude plank road along a cliff, offering panoramic views of the forested peaks, sea of clouds, and sunrise. You can take a two-stage cable car up the mountain; on clear days, you can enjoy the cloud sea sunrise at the summit, while in winter it is a very popular spot for snow viewing in the Central Plains region. My suggestion is to take the cable car early to catch the best light at the Golden Summit and the Ten-Mile Painted Screen; it is windy and cold at the top, so a windproof jacket and an insulated bottle are essential, and those who are timid should avoid the glass observation deck.

Tips: There is a significant temperature difference between morning and evening in the mountains, and it is very windy at the summit, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layers are necessary. Visitors generally report that the Golden Summit cloud sea and sunrise are considered the main highlights, and many specifically stay overnight on the mountain to watch the dawn; note that the summit has large temperature differences and long cable car queues, and during peak season, it is essential to go early. Considering the situation, time management is crucial: arrive five to ten minutes early for gatherings. It is better for people to wait for the vehicle than for the vehicle to wait for people, so do not make everyone wait for you.
