Day 1: Shaolin Temple

Assemble in the morning and set off for Shaolin Temple, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, leaving plenty of time for taking photos and resting; have a local specialty lunch at noon, check in to the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Shaolin Temple. Shaolin Temple is located at the foot of Wuru Peak on Shaoshi Mountain in Dengfeng, originally built in the 19th year of the Taihe period of the Northern Wei Dynasty (495 AD). It is both the ancestral temple of Chan Buddhism and the birthplace of Shaolin martial arts, with a history of more than 1,500 years. The core highlights are concentrated in three areas:

1. The Main Hall Compound along the central axis consists of the Shanmen (Mountain Gate), Tianwang Hall (Hall of Heavenly Kings), Daxiong Hall (Great Hero Hall), Sutra Storage Pavilion, and Lixue Pavilion, with halls and ancient steles arranged along the way;

2. The Pagoda Forest is the largest existing ancient pagoda complex in China. Over 200 brick-and-stone tomb pagodas from the Tang and Song Dynasties to the Qing Dynasty vary in shape, each corresponding to a revered monk;

3. The Bodhidharma Cave on Wuru Peak is believed to be where Bodhidharma meditated facing the wall for nine years.

The Martial Arts Hall hosts daily fixed-time Shaolin martial arts performances, showcasing real skills in fist techniques, weapons, and iron body training. My suggestion is to walk the central axis with the guide first for an overview, then explore the details freely; please maintain silence and walk around the pagodas in the Pagoda Forest; for the martial arts performance, arrive 15 minutes early to get a good seat.

Friendly Tips: There are many incense stalls around the temple, so purchase incense as needed and spend rationally. Visitors commonly report that the martial arts performance is most popular with families, while the Pagoda Forest and Chuzu'an Temple are often overlooked on the way. Be aware that the scenic area is significantly commercialized, so check prices first for vegetarian meals and surrounding services. Based on the actual situation, respect local customs, dress appropriately when entering religious sites, do not point randomly, and a simple greeting can win goodwill.

Day 2: Only Henan

Assemble in the morning and depart for Only Henan, follow the guide to tour the key attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; at noon, enjoy local specialty dishes, and in the evening, check into the hotel to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is Only Henan. The 'Only Henan·Theatrical Fantasy City' is located in Zhongmu, Zhengzhou. It is a giant drama village built from rammed earth, showcasing the hardships, harvests, and resilience of Central Plains civilization through over twenty theaters and nearly a hundred performances. The main theaters' productions, such as 'Fantasy City,' 'Train Station,' and 'Li Family Village,' are highly regarded, while the smaller theaters are each uniquely creative, with wheat wave imagery running throughout. It is a phenomenal landmark of Henan cultural tourism. This is not a traditional attraction but an immersive cultural experience. My understanding is that you should reserve a whole day, plan the main productions first, and then fit in the smaller theaters; book tickets in advance through official channels and check the performance schedules carefully, as popular shows often sell out.

Tips: The water sections along the canyon can be slippery, so be sure to wear anti-slip creek shoes or sports shoes, and keep valuables like mobile phones waterproof. Visitors generally feel that the immersive experience in the Theatrical Fantasy City appeals to young people, but tickets are expensive and time-consuming; it is recommended to select the main theaters and reserve at least half a day. In practical terms, joining a tour group is least effective if you just rush through; listening to explanations is the essence, as the cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than photos. If there is something you don’t understand, ask the guide on the spot.

Day 3: Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden

Gather in the morning and depart for Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, leaving plenty of time for taking photos and resting; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, check in to the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the itinerary the next day.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights of the itinerary is Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden. Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden is located in Kaifeng and is a Song Dynasty cultural theme park built based on Zhang Zeduan's Northern Song painting 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival'. The park restores the rainbow bridge, Bian River, streets, and taverns from the painting, recreating the bustling life of the Northern Song capital, Bianliang. The park offers live performances and folk parades throughout the day, with the most famous being the nighttime water show 'The Dream of the Northern Song Capital', which uses lights and visuals to recreate the grandeur of the Northern Song capital. During the day, visitors can watch immersive folk performances such as the opening ceremony, Bao Gong welcoming guests, and Wang Yuanwai arranging a marriage. It is also a paradise for Hanfu enthusiasts; changing into a Song-style Hanfu and walking between the Rainbow Bridge and the Bian River provides many opportunities for ancient-style photos. My understanding is that upon entering the park, you should first get the performance schedule, plan the must-see shows and night performance times, and then wander and eat casually; wandering the streets during the day is the most immersive, while the night performance is a visual and auditory feast. If the budget allows, it is worth watching.

Tips: Food and drinks in the park are relatively expensive, so it is advisable to bring some water and snacks and carefully keep your personal belongings. Visitors generally find wandering the streets during the day most immersive, while opinions on the night show 'The Dream of the Northern Song Capital' are mixed; note that performance tickets are relatively pricey, so make choices according to your budget. Depending on the situation, for authentic food, walk deeper into the alleys, as the lines at the main entrance are long and the taste is average; for souvenirs, ask for prices and compare them, as local supermarkets often offer more genuine products.
