Day 1: Sui-Tang Luoyang City

Assemble in the morning and set off for Sui-Tang Luoyang City, following the tour guide to visit the main attractions, leaving plenty of time for photos and rest; enjoy local specialty dishes at noon, check in to the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Sui-Tang Luoyang City attractions. The Sui-Tang Luoyang City National Heritage Park centers around Yingtian Gate, Mingtang, and Tiantang, restoring the grandeur of the palaces in the 'Divine Capital' Luoyang of the flourishing Tang Dynasty. Yingtian Gate serves as the main southern gate of Sui-Tang Luoyang City, majestic in scale; climbing the tower allows a view down the central axis, and at night there is a stunning light show. Mingtang was the 'Palace of Myriad Phenomena' during Empress Wu Zetian's reign, while Tiantang is a tall tower for Buddhist rituals. The interiors of both buildings recreate the luxurious furnishings of a Tang Dynasty court. Strolling by Jiuzhou Pool is also pleasant, evoking the grandeur of the former imperial gardens. This site is closely related to TV series such as 'Wu Zetian' and 'Feng QiLuoyang,' and has been one of the most popular Tang culture spots in Luoyang in recent years. In my opinion, a night tour is a must—the lights of Yingtian Gate and Mingtang-Tiantang in the early evening show what the 'Divine Capital' truly looks like; see the palace furnishings by day, and enjoy the light show by night—two experiences in one day.

Tips: Ancient capital attractions are spread out, requiring a fair amount of walking and transfers, so it is recommended to wear comfortable flat shoes and plan your route carefully. Most visitors feel that Sui-Tang Luoyang City is worth a dedicated trip, so slow down, follow the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Considering actual conditions, mountain weather can change suddenly, so a windproof jacket is more practical than anything else. Choose shoes that are non-slip and comfortable; it's better to take fewer photos than to twist your ankle.

Day 2: Erlitou

Gather in the morning and depart for Erlitou. Follow the guide to tour the main attractions, leaving ample time for taking photos and resting; enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, and check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day’s itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Erlitou. The Erlitou ruins are located in Yanshi, Luoyang, and are esteemed by scholars as "the earliest China." It is a large city site from the mid-to-late Xia Dynasty, where significant artifacts such as turquoise dragon-shaped ornaments, bronze jia, and bronze ding have been unearthed, revealing the appearance of the first capital of the Huaxia. The turquoise dragon-shaped ornament is inlaid with over 2,000 pieces of turquoise and is praised as "the first dragon of Huaxia," serving as an important testament to Chinese dragon worship. The Erlitou Ruins Museum presents the archaeological site in a realistic way and is an essential stop for studying the origins of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that visiting the site after first learning about the academic controversies regarding the "Xia capital" will provide deeper insight when viewing the exhibits. The museum’s exhibitions are carefully curated and worth viewing slowly.

Tips: There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in the mountains, and it is windy at the summit. A windproof jacket and warm inner layers are necessary. Tourists generally report that most consider Erlitou worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide’s explanations, and leave time to appreciate the most impressive details and the best photo spots. In practice, do not shop impulsively; if you see a "limited-time offer," stay calm for three minutes first. If you really want to buy souvenirs, make sure to shop at reputable stores and keep the receipts for peace of mind.

Day 3: Longmen Grottoes

Gather in the morning and depart for Longmen Grottoes. Follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon and check into the hotel in the evening to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Longmen Grottoes attraction. Longmen Grottoes was carved on the cliff walls along both sides of the Yi River in the southern part of Luoyang city, and construction continued since Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei moved the capital to Luoyang, spanning the Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, Tang, and other dynasties. Currently, there are more than 2,300 grottoes, over 100,000 statues, and more than 2,800 inscriptions. The most breathtaking is the Vairocana Buddha of Fengxian Temple, over seventeen meters tall, with a full face and eyes filled with compassion, said to have been carved according to Empress Wu Zetian's appearance, representing the pinnacle of stone carving art in the High Tang period. Along with the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang and the Yungang Grottoes in Datong, it is one of China's three great grottoes and a World Cultural Heritage site. During the visit, walk south along the Yi River from the West Mountain Grottoes, with each of Binyang Three Caves, Wanfo Cave, and Lotus Cave offering highlights. Cross the bridge to East Mountain Worship Terrace for a panoramic view. My understanding is to first visit the main caves in the West Mountain in the morning, enjoy the Buddha while there are fewer people, and in the afternoon, go to the East Mountain viewing terrace for distant views; this time provides the best lighting and angles for photos. Walking along both sides of the Yi River requires retracing steps, so a pair of comfortable shoes will save a lot of effort.

Tips: The grottoes are mostly built on cliffs, so keep a distance from the cliffs and hold onto railings while viewing. Take care of the elderly and children. Visitors generally report that most find the Vairocana Buddha the most impressive, and the sunset at West Mountain provides the best photo lighting; walking along both sides of the Yi River requires retracing steps, so comfortable shoes and freeing up half a day are recommended. Depending on the actual situation, keep your documents and wallet separate, take photos of important documents to store backups on your phone, so if anything is lost, it can be quickly replaced without affecting the trip.
