Day 1: Longtan Grand Canyon

Assemble in the morning and depart for Longtan Grand Canyon. Follow the guide to visit the main attractions, leaving plenty of time for photos and rest; at noon, enjoy local specialty dishes, and in the evening, check into the hotel to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is Longtan Grand Canyon. Longtan Grand Canyon is located in Xin'an and is a canyon famous for wonders such as red rock cliffs and water flowing uphill, earning accolades as the "Canyon Gem" and "Natural Museum of Ancient Seas." Trails like Liubu Pool and One-Line Sky offer strong water interaction fun. The red rock cliffs and clear ponds complement each other. It is especially cool in summer and is a convenient family-friendly water destination not far from Luoyang city center. The canyon stretches for several kilometers with waterfalls, deep pools, and unique rocks along the way, offering different scenery at every step. My recommendation is to wear anti-slip creek shoes or sneakers and ensure waterproof protection for valuables like your phone. Families with children should slow the pace, choose the flatter boardwalk sections, and not rush to complete the entire route.

Tips: Cell signal may be poor in the canyon, so agree on a meeting point with the guide in advance and avoid going alone. Visitors generally report that most believe Longtan Grand Canyon is worth making a special trip for. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details and photo spots that impress you most. Respect local customs based on the actual situation; dress appropriately when entering religious sites and avoid pointing randomly. A simple greeting can often earn goodwill.

Day 2: Longmen Grottoes

Assemble in the morning and depart for Longmen Grottoes, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, and allow ample time for taking photos and resting; have a local specialty lunch at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Longmen Grottoes attractions. Longmen Grottoes was carved on the cliff walls along the south banks of the Yi River in Luoyang. Construction continued from the time Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei moved the capital to Luoyang, spanning multiple dynasties including Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, and Tang. There are currently over 2,300 niches, more than 100,000 statues, and over 2,800 engraved steles. The most astonishing is the Vairocana Buddha of Fengxian Temple, which is over 17 meters tall, with a plump face and compassionate eyes, said to have been modeled after Empress Wu Zetian, representing the pinnacle of Tang dynasty stone carving art. Together with Dunhuang Mogao Caves and Yungang in Datong, it is one of China's three major grottoes and a World Cultural Heritage site. During the visit, walk south along the Yi River trail from the Xishan Grottoes; each of the Binyang Three Caves, Ten Thousand Buddha Cave, and Lotus Cave has its own highlights. Cross the bridge to the East Mountain Buddha Terrace for a panoramic view. My understanding is, in the morning first visit the main Xishan caves and savor the Buddha while there are fewer people; in the afternoon, go to the East Mountain terrace for distant views, which offers the best lighting and angles for photos; walking along both banks of the Yi River requires backtracking, so a pair of comfortable shoes can save a lot of effort.

Tips: Visiting the grottoes mainly involves walking and stairs, so it is recommended to wear non-slip comfortable shoes and travel light, and pay attention to your footing along the Yi River. Visitor feedback generally indicates that most people find the Vairocana Buddha the most impressive, the lighting at Xishan during sunset is best for photos; walking along the Yi River requires backtracking, so comfortable shoes and reserving half a day is advised. Considering the actual situation, joining a tour is most valuable when you listen to the guide rather than rushing through sights. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than photos, and if anything is unclear, ask the guide on the spot.

Day 3: Sui-Tang Luoyang City

Gather in the morning and set off for Sui-Tang Luoyang City, following the tour guide to visit the main attractions, leaving plenty of time for photos and rest; enjoy local specialty dishes at noon, check in to the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Sui-Tang Luoyang City attractions. The Sui-Tang Luoyang City National Heritage Park centers around Yingtian Gate, Mingtang, and Tiantang, restoring the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty "Divine Capital" Luoyang palace complex. Yingtian Gate is the main south gate of Sui-Tang Luoyang City, imposing in scale; you can overlook the central axis from the top, and there is a spectacular night light show. Mingtang was the "Palace of Ten Thousand Phenomena" during Empress Wu Zetian's era, and Tiantang is a tall tower for Buddhist ceremonies. The interiors of both buildings restore the luxurious furnishings of the Tang court. The banks of Jiuzhou Pool are also suitable for a stroll, evoking the majesty of the royal gardens of the past. This place is closely associated with TV dramas such as "Wu Zetian" and "The Wind Rises in Luoyang," and it has been one of the most popular Tang culture spots in Luoyang in recent years. My advice is to be sure to visit at night—the lights of Yingtian Gate, Mingtang, and Tiantang at dusk show what the "Divine Capital" truly looks like; see the palace furnishings by day, and enjoy the light show at night—two experiences in one day.

Tips: Popular landmarks in the ancient capital can be very crowded during holidays, so try to avoid peak times or book tickets in advance. Tourists generally feel that Sui-Tang Luoyang City is worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide's explanations, and save time for the details that move you the most and the most photogenic spots. Depending on your situation, if you want authentic food, go deeper into the alleyways; lines at the main entrance are long and the taste is often ordinary. For souvenirs, compare prices before buying; local supermarkets often offer more reliable products.

Day 4: Jiguan Cave

Assemble in the morning and depart for Jiguan Cave. Follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for taking photos and resting; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, and check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is Jiguan Cave. Jiguan Cave is a karst cave in Luanchuan. The cave features stalactites in a variety of shapes, and stalagmites, columns, and stone flowers under the lights display dazzling colors. It maintains a constant and pleasant temperature year-round, warm in winter and cool in summer. The cave is densely packed with scenic spots, offering constantly changing views, and with the explanations, you can understand the miraculous geological changes over hundreds of millions of years. Together with Longtan Grand Canyon, forming a cave-and-gorge pairing, it complements each other and represents a classic geological wonder route in western Henan. In my understanding, when entering the cave, remember to follow the explanation; the formation and naming of stalactites are very interesting, and it’s easy to miss highlights if you just look by yourself. The cave floor is slippery, and some areas are low, so wear non-slip shoes and watch your head.

Tips: Many mountain paths are slippery, especially when going downhill, so pay attention to shifting your center of gravity backward and slowing your steps; you may consider bringing knee pads. Visitors generally report that most think Jiguan Cave is worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide for explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Allocate your physical energy according to the situation, tackling the key highlights in the morning while in good spirits, and slowing down in the afternoon. Don’t exhaust yourself on the first day, or you won’t have energy for the following days.
