Day 1: Longtan Grand Canyon

Assemble in the morning and depart for Longtan Grand Canyon. Follow the guide to visit the main attractions, leaving plenty of time for photos and rest; at noon, enjoy local specialty dishes, and in the evening, check into the hotel to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is Longtan Grand Canyon. Longtan Grand Canyon is located in Xin'an and is a canyon famous for wonders such as red rock cliffs and water flowing uphill, earning accolades as the "Canyon Gem" and "Natural Museum of Ancient Seas." Trails like Liubu Pool and One-Line Sky offer strong water interaction fun. The red rock cliffs and clear ponds complement each other. It is especially cool in summer and is a nearby family-friendly water destination from Luoyang city center. The canyon stretches for several kilometers, with waterfalls, deep pools, and unique rocks along the way, each step offering a different view. In my opinion, wearing non-slip creek shoes or sports shoes is the most suitable, and waterproof your phone and other valuables; families with children should slow down, choose the gentler boardwalk sections, and not rush to complete the entire route.

Warm Tips: Mobile signal may be poor inside the canyon, so arrange a meeting point with the guide in advance and avoid going alone. Visitors generally report that most believe Longtan Grand Canyon is worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide for explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Respect local customs according to the actual situation; wear appropriate clothing in religious sites, do not point casually, and a simple greeting can earn goodwill.

Day 2: Wangcheng Park

Assemble in the morning and depart for Wangcheng Park. Follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, leaving ample time for taking photos and resting; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, and check in to the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights of the itinerary is Wangcheng Park, located in Luoyang. It is named because it is situated on the site of the ancient Eastern Zhou royal city. It has been one of the main venues for the Peony Cultural Festival of Luoyang throughout the years and is also the urban park most familiar to the citizens of Luoyang. Every April, famous peony varieties such as Yao Huang, Wei Zi, and Zhao Fen compete to bloom, presenting a spectacular display of countless colorful flowers. The park also preserves the remains of the Zhou Royal City and has a zoo, combining historical heritage with recreational functions. It is a classic spot for tourists to experience the "Peony Flower City." My understanding is that if visiting during peony season (April), this place must be included in your must-visit list; in the early morning, there are fewer people, and the peonies adorned with dew look most delicate; outside the blooming season, it is more suitable for leisurely walks.

Warm Tips: Popular attractions in the park often have long queues, so collect a map and performance schedule upon entering and prioritize the must-try attractions. Visitors generally feel that most tourists think Wangcheng Park is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide for explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Considering the actual situation, the biggest risk of a group tour is rushing through sights; listening to explanations is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than the photos, so ask the guide on the spot if you do not understand anything.

Day 3: Longmen Grottoes

Gather in the morning and depart for Longmen Grottoes, following the tour guide to visit the main attractions, leaving plenty of time for photos and rest; have a local specialty meal at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge to prepare for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Longmen Grottoes attractions. Longmen Grottoes was carved on the cliff faces along both banks of the Yi River in the south of Luoyang, continuously constructed since the relocation of the Northern Wei Emperor Xiaowen's capital to Luoyang, spanning multiple dynasties including Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, and Tang. It currently has over 2,300 niches, more than 100,000 statues, and over 2,800 inscribed steles. The most astonishing feature is the Vairocana Buddha of Fenshansi Temple, which is over seventeen meters tall, with a full face and compassionate eyes, said to be carved based on the likeness of Empress Wu Zetian, representing the pinnacle of Tang dynasty stone carving art. Along with the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang and Yungang Grottoes in Datong, it is considered one of the three major grottoes in China and is a World Cultural Heritage site. When visiting, walk along the Yi River path from the Western Mountain Grottoes southward; the Binyang Three Caves, Wanfo Cave, and Lotus Cave each have their highlights. Cross the bridge to the Eastern Mountain Worship Terrace for a panoramic view. My understanding is that in the morning, first see the main grottoes of the Western Mountain and admire the Buddha when there are fewer people, and in the afternoon, go to the Eastern Mountain terrace for a distant view, as the lighting and angles are best for photography. Walking along both banks of the Yi River requires retracing your steps, so a comfortable pair of shoes saves a lot of effort.

Tips: The grotto area has strong UV rays, so on sunny days, bring a sun hat and sunscreen. The visiting route is long, so remember to stay hydrated. Visitors generally report that most find the Vairocana Buddha the most impressive, the sunset at the Western Mountain is best for photography; walking along both banks of the Yi River requires retracing your steps, so comfortable shoes and half a day are recommended. Depending on your situation, if you want authentic food, go deeper into the alleys, as lines at the main entrance can be long and the taste is average; for local specialties, always check prices and compare, as local supermarkets often offer more genuine products.

Day 4: Erlitou

In the morning, gather and depart for Erlitou, follow the guide to visit the main attractions, leaving plenty of time for photos and rest; at noon, enjoy local specialty dishes, and in the evening, check in at the hotel to replenish your energy for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Erlitou. The Erlitou site is located in Yanshi, Luoyang, and is praised by scholars as "the earliest China." It is a large urban site from the middle and late Xia Dynasty, where artifacts such as turquoise dragon-shaped objects, bronze jues, and bronze ding were unearthed, revealing the appearance of the first capital of the Huaxia civilization. The turquoise dragon-shaped object is made of more than two thousand pieces of turquoise and is hailed as the "First Dragon of Huaxia," serving as important evidence of dragon worship in China. The Erlitou Site Museum presents the archaeology with a sense of being on-site and is an indispensable destination for researching the origins of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that visiting with prior knowledge of the academic debates surrounding the "Capital of Xia" and then viewing the exhibits will provide a deeper understanding; the museum's exhibition is carefully arranged and worth taking time to appreciate slowly.

Tips: Many mountain road areas are slippery. Pay special attention to shifting your center of gravity backward and slowing down when going downhill; knee pads can be useful. Visitors generally feedback that most think Erlitou is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow your pace, listen to the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and for the best photo spots. Considering your actual condition, allocate your energy wisely: tackle the main highlights in the morning when you're fresh, slow down in the afternoon, and avoid exhausting yourself on the first day so that the following days are not tiring.
