Day 1: Longtan Grand Canyon

Assemble in the morning and depart for Longtan Grand Canyon. Follow the guide to visit the main attractions, allowing plenty of time for photos and rest. At noon, enjoy local specialty meals, and in the evening, check into the hotel to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is Longtan Grand Canyon. Located in Xin’an, Longtan Grand Canyon is a canyon famous for wonders like red rock cliffs and water flowing uphill, known as the 'Ultimate Canyon' and 'Natural Museum of the Ancient Ocean.' Trails such as Liubutan and Yixiantian offer strong water-related fun. The red rock cliffs paired with clear pools create stunning scenery, especially refreshing in summer, making it a family-friendly water destination not far from Luoyang city center. The canyon stretches for several kilometers, with waterfalls, deep pools, and unique rocks along the way, offering new sights with every step. In my view, wearing slip-resistant stream or sports shoes is best, and waterproof your valuables like phones. Families with children should slow the pace, choose the gentler boardwalk sections, and not rush to complete the entire trail.

Tips: The canyon trails are close to water and cliffs, so do not climb over railings or play in dangerous areas, and keep an eye on accompanying children. Visitors generally feel that most people think Longtan Grand Canyon is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide's commentary, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Depending on the situation, the best time for photos is early morning or late afternoon—fewer people and soft light in the morning, golden glow at dusk, while noon light is harsh and crowded, making it better to rest.

Day 2: Baiyun Mountain

Gather in the morning and depart for Baiyun Mountain, follow the guide to visit the main attractions, allowing plenty of time for photos and rest; enjoy local specialty cuisine at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Baiyun Mountain attractions. Baiyun Mountain is located in the heart of the Funiu Mountains in Song County. From Yuhuang Peak, you can watch the sunrise over a sea of clouds. The area has a high forest coverage and abundant negative oxygen ions, making it a natural oxygen bar. Within the scenic area, Jiulong Waterfall and the Alpine Peony Garden each have their own features. It is one of the few high-altitude resort scenic areas suitable for summer cooling and autumn leaf viewing. You can use the cable car or scenic shuttle to connect the points. The mountaintop offers a broad view and misty clouds, looking like a fairyland. In my opinion, visiting in summer to escape the heat is most worthwhile. The coolness in the mountains contrasts sharply with the intense heat in the city. Waking up early to climb Yuhuang Peak to see the sunrise over the clouds requires a bit of luck, but even if you miss the sunrise, the mountain scenery in the morning fog is beautiful enough.

Tips: Mountain roads are often slippery, especially on the descent, so keep your center of gravity back and slow down. Bringing a knee brace is advisable. Visitors generally report that most believe Baiyun Mountain is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow your pace, listen to the guide’s explanations, and save time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Considering the actual situation, the biggest concern on long trips is dehydration, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently. On the first night at high altitudes or in mountainous areas, avoid washing your hair or taking long baths to give your body some time to adjust.

Day 3: Longmen Grottoes

Assemble in the morning and depart for Longmen Grottoes, follow the guide to visit the main attractions, leaving ample time for taking photos and resting; enjoy local specialty cuisine at noon, and check in at the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes the Longmen Grottoes attraction, Longmen Grottoes was carved on the cliff walls along the southern banks of the Yi River in Luoyang city, and construction continued since Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei moved the capital to Luoyang, spanning the Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, Tang, and other dynasties. Currently, there are more than 2,300 grottoes, over 100,000 statues, and more than 2,800 inscriptions. The most breathtaking is the Leshan Giant Buddha at Fengxian Temple, over seventeen meters tall, with a full face and eyes filled with kindness, said to be carved in the likeness of Empress Wu Zetian, representing the pinnacle of Tang Dynasty stone carving art. Together with Dunhuang Mogao Caves and Datong Yungang, it is considered one of China's three major grottoes and a World Cultural Heritage site. When visiting, walk south along the Yi River trail from the West Mountain Grottoes; there are highlights at Binyang Three Caves, Wanfo Cave, and Lotus Cave. Cross the bridge to the East Mountain Worship Terrace for a panoramic view. My suggestion is to visit the main grottoes of the West Mountain in the morning to enjoy the Buddha while it's less crowded, and in the afternoon, go to the East Mountain terrace for distant views; the lighting and angles are best for photography; walking along both sides of the Yi River requires backtracking, so a comfortable pair of shoes will save a lot of effort.

Tips: Visiting the grottoes mainly involves walking and stairs, so it is recommended to wear non-slip comfortable shoes and travel light. Pay attention to your footing along both sides of the Yi River. Visitors generally report that most find the Leshan Giant Buddha the most impressive, and the sunset at West Mountain provides the best lighting for photos; walking along both sides of the Yi River requires backtracking, so comfortable shoes and half a day should be planned. Based on the actual situation, be punctual and arrive five to ten minutes early for assembly; it is better for people to wait for the bus than for the bus to wait for people, so don't make everyone wait for you.

Day 4: Jiguan Cave

In the morning, gather and set off for Jiguan Cave, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photography and rest; at noon, enjoy the local specialty cuisine, and in the evening, check into the hotel to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is Jiguan Cave. Jiguan Cave is a karst cave in Luanchuan. Inside the cave, stalactites take on various shapes, and stalagmites, stone pillars, and stone flowers transform into gorgeous colors under the lights. The temperature inside remains pleasant year-round, warm in winter and cool in summer. The cave has densely packed attractions, changing scenes as you move, and with explanations, you can understand the amazing geological changes over hundreds of millions of years. Together with Longtan Grand Canyon, it forms a one-cave-one-gorge complementary experience, a classic geological wonder route in western Henan. My understanding is that when entering the cave, remember to follow the guide. The formation and naming of the stalactites are very interesting, and if you look by yourself, you may miss the highlights; the cave floor is wet, and some areas are low, so wear non-slip shoes and watch your head.

Tips: There is a large temperature difference in the mountains between morning and evening, and wind can be strong at the summit, so a windproof jacket and warm layers are essential. Visitors generally report that most people think Jiguan Cave is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide, and leave time for the details that touch you most and the best photo spots. Based on the actual situation, don’t just focus on taking photos; pay attention to your feet and the surrounding environment, and make sure to stand firmly on viewing platforms and trail edges.

Day 5: Red Flag Canal

Assemble in the morning and set off for Red Flag Canal, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for taking photos and resting; enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is at Red Flag Canal. Red Flag Canal is an 'artificial river in the sky' carved by the people of Linzhou on the cliffs of the Taihang Mountains in the 1960s. It is over 1,500 kilometers long, leveling 1,250 mountain peaks, constructing more than 150 aqueducts, and tunneling through more than 200 caves. It took nearly ten years to complete and stands as a monument to the Chinese nation's spirit of perseverance. The Youth Cave is the most dangerous section of the route, carved by 300 youth team members on the cliffside; the Water Division Garden and Red Flag Canal Memorial Hall fully illustrate the difficult process of building the canal. This site combines red (revolutionary) education with the magnificent Taihang scenery, and today is also an awe-inspiring cultural landmark. My understanding is that visiting the memorial hall first to learn about the canal construction, then walking through the Youth Cave, is the only way to truly understand the significance of this canal; hike along the canal according to your own ability, wear non-slip shoes, and watch your step.

Tips: The mountain paths are often slippery; pay special attention to shifting your weight backward and slowing down when going downhill, and it may be useful to bring a pair of knee protectors. General feedback from visitors is that the 'artificial river in the sky' is a strong symbolic landmark, resonating more with middle-aged tourists; guided explanations in the exhibition are worth listening to to understand that period of history. Depending on the circumstances, the best time for photos is early morning or late afternoon—fewer people and softer light in the morning, golden glow at dusk; midday light is harsh and crowded, so it may be better to rest then.

Day 6: Free time

Today is a free activity day, with no organized itinerary; you can leisurely explore around Longtan Grand Canyon, sleep in naturally, choose foods and neighborhoods according to your own interests, or revisit spots from previous days you didn't fully capture.

Friendly reminder: There is no fixed schedule on free activity day. Make sure to note your hotel location and meeting time before going out, keep your phone fully charged, and bring a power bank. Feedback from most tourists indicates that many use free activity days to sleep in, then go sightseeing, eat, and take photos at a relaxed pace. Considering practical situations, dehydration is a major risk on long journeys, so carry a water bottle and take small sips frequently. On the first night at high altitudes or mountainous areas, avoid washing your hair or bathing for too long to give your body some time to adjust.

Day 7: Departure

Take a dedicated car to the station or airport according to your flight or train schedule. Conclude a pleasant journey and return home full of memories.

Warm tip: On the day of return, be sure to double-check your flight or train time and leave early to allow enough buffer. Before checking out, inspect the room once more to ensure nothing is left behind. Tourists generally report that many buy some souvenirs in advance for their return trip, so it is recommended to purchase them from reputable stores and keep the receipts to avoid last-minute rush. In practical terms, in mountainous areas, the weather can change in an instant, so a windproof jacket is more reliable than anything else; shoes must be slip-resistant and comfortable—better to take fewer photos than to sprain your ankle.
