Day 1: Chongdugou

Gather in the morning and depart for Chongdugou. Follow the guide to visit the main attractions, leaving plenty of time for taking photos and resting. Enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, and in the evening check into the hotel to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Chongdugou attractions. Chongdugou is located in Luanchuan and is known for its vast bamboo groves, cascading waterfalls, and Henan western rural scenery, making it a rare 'Jiangnan Water Town'-style spot for summer relaxation. The scenic area is divided into two zones: Jinji River and Dicui River. Jinji River is famous for its waterfalls, with splashing water and a refreshing atmosphere; Dicui River features continuous bamboo forests, offering lush greenery as you stroll through. Here you can stay in farmhouses, taste wild mountain vegetables, and experience authentic village life in western Henan. The pace is leisurely, ideal for family slow travel and summer vacations. My understanding is that you should slow down and not rush through the sights—walking through the bamboo forests and sitting by the streams is the proper way to enjoy Chongdugou. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit, with a coolness that makes you not want to leave.

Tips: Signal within the canyon may be weak, so arrange meeting points with the guide in advance and avoid going alone. Most tourists feedback that Chongdugou is worth a dedicated visit. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide's explanations, and reserve time for the details that touch you most and the best photography spots. Depending on the situation, the best photo times are early morning or late afternoon—few people and soft light in the morning, golden glow at dusk. Midday has harsh light and crowds, so resting then is more worthwhile.

Day 2: Longtan Grand Canyon

In the morning, gather and depart for Longtan Grand Canyon, follow the tour guide to visit the key attractions, leaving ample time for taking photos and resting; at noon, enjoy local specialty meals, and in the evening, check into the hotel to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop brings us to Longtan Grand Canyon. Longtan Grand Canyon is located in Xin'an and is a canyon famous for wonders such as red-rock cliffs and streams flowing uphill, earning it a reputation as 'the finest canyon' and 'a natural museum of ancient oceans.' Trails such as Liubu Pool and Yixiantian offer great water-related fun, with red cliffs and clear ponds complementing each other. Summer is especially cool, making it a nearby water-friendly destination for families from Luoyang city. The canyon stretches for several kilometers, with waterfalls, deep pools, and unique stones along the way, offering a scenic spot at every step. In my opinion, wearing non-slip creek shoes or sports shoes is most suitable, and valuables like phones should be waterproofed; families with children should slow their pace, choosing flatter walkways, and not rush to complete the entire route.

Friendly Tips: The water-friendly sections of the canyon are slippery, so be sure to wear non-slip creek shoes or sports shoes, and protect valuables such as phones from water. Visitors generally report that most think Longtan Grand Canyon is worth a special visit; it is recommended to slow down, follow the guide for explanations, and leave time for the details that touch you the most and the best photo spots. Considering practical circumstances, the greatest risk during long trips is dehydration, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently; on the first night at high altitudes or in mountainous areas, avoid washing hair or bathing for too long, allowing your body some time to adjust.

Day 3: Laojun Mountain

Gather in the morning and depart for Laojun Mountain. Follow the guide to visit the core attractions, allowing ample time for taking photos and resting; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Laojun Mountain attractions. Laojun Mountain is located in Luoyang Luanchuan County, the main peak of the Funiu Mountains and a famous Taoist mountain, said to be the retreat and cultivation place of Laozi, the founder of Taoism. The Golden Summit Taoist temple complex stands atop a peak over two thousand meters above sea level, with golden tiles and red walls, surrounded by rolling seas of clouds, and is renowned as 'a stunning feast for the eyes, a glimpse of the world's splendor.' Shili Huaping (Ten-Mile Painting Screen) is the highlight of the whole trip, a high-altitude walkway suspended along a cliff that offers changing views, capturing the peak forests, cloud seas, and sunrise in one glance. Visitors can take a two-stage cable car up the mountain; on clear days, you can see the sea of clouds and sunrise from the summit, and in winter, it is a popular snow-viewing destination in central China. My understanding is that it is essential to take the cable car up early to secure the best light at the Golden Summit and Shili Huaping; it is windy and cold at the top, so a windbreaker and thermos are a must, and if you are afraid of heights, don't force yourself on the glass viewing platform.

Tips: The temperature in mountain areas varies greatly between morning and evening, and it is windy at the summit, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layers are necessary. Visitors generally agree that the sea of clouds and sunrise at the Golden Summit are the main highlights, and many stay on the summit overnight to catch dawn; keep in mind the large temperature difference, long queues for the cable car, and during peak season, make sure to go early. Based on the actual situation, time management is important. Arrive five to ten minutes before assembly; it is better for people to wait for the bus than for the bus to wait for people, don't make the group wait for you.

Day 4: Longmen Grottoes

Gather in the morning and depart for Longmen Grottoes. Follow the guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon and check into the hotel in the evening to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Longmen Grottoes attractions. Longmen Grottoes was carved on the cliff walls along both sides of the Yi River in the southern part of Luoyang city, and construction continued since Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei moved the capital to Luoyang, spanning the Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, Tang, and other dynasties. Currently, there are more than 2,300 grottoes, over 100,000 statues, and more than 2,800 inscriptions. The most striking is the Vairocana Buddha of Fengxian Temple, over seventeen meters tall, with a full face and eyes filled with compassion, said to have been carved according to Empress Wu Zetian's appearance, representing the pinnacle of stone carving art in the High Tang period. Along with the Dunhuang Mogao Caves and Datong's Yungang Grottoes, it is known as one of China's three major grottoes and is also a World Cultural Heritage site. During the visit, walk south along the Yi River trail from the West Mountain Grottoes; Bin Yang's Three Caves, Ten Thousand Buddha Cave, and Lotus Cave each have their own highlights. Cross the bridge to the East Mountain Worship Terrace for a panoramic view. My suggestion is to visit the main grottoes in the West Mountain in the morning to appreciate the Buddha while it's less crowded, and then go to the East Mountain in the afternoon for distant views, which offers the best lighting and angles for photos; walking along both sides of the Yi River requires backtracking, so a pair of comfortable shoes can save a lot of effort.

Friendly Tips: Most grottoes are built along cliffs. When sightseeing, keep a distance from the cliff face and hold onto the railing, taking care of the elderly and children. Visitors generally report that most find the Vairocana Buddha the most stunning, and the sunset at West Mountain provides the best lighting for photos; walking along the Yi River requires backtracking, so comfortable shoes are recommended and allow for half a day. Considering the actual situation, don't focus solely on taking photos; pay attention to your footing and surroundings, and make sure to hold on securely while standing on viewing platforms or near trail edges.
