Day 1: White Horse Temple

Gather in the morning and depart for White Horse Temple, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for taking photos and resting; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is White Horse Temple. White Horse Temple is located in the eastern part of Luoyang City and was first built during the Yongping period of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It was constructed to commemorate the carrying of Buddhist scriptures on white horses and the early introduction of Buddhism to the Central Plains, and it is revered as 'China's First Ancient Temple,' being the first government-established temple built after the introduction of Buddhism to China. Inside the temple, the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, the Great Buddha Hall, and the Hall of Heavenly Kings are laid out along the central axis, with incense burning continuously among the red walls and green cypresses for over two thousand years. It is worth mentioning that the temple also has Buddhist halls built in foreign styles from countries such as Myanmar, Thailand, and India, presenting a unique view of the spread and return of Buddhist culture. My understanding is to first see the main hall along the central axis, then walk around to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally visit the side exotic Buddhist halls to experience the cultural blend; coming in the early morning with fewer people and sunlight shining on the red walls and ancient cypresses gives the best sentiment and also avoids tour group crowds.

Tips: There are many incense stalls around the temple; purchase incense as needed and consume rationally. Visitors generally report that the exotic-style Buddhist halls (Thai/Myanmar/Indian courtyards) are photogenic, often appearing more spacious than expected; note that the international temple area requires a lot of walking, so save some energy. Depending on the circumstances, the best times for photo opportunities are early morning or late afternoon—when there are fewer people in the morning and soft light, or in the golden glow of dusk; at noon, the direct light is harsh and crowded, so resting is more worthwhile.

Day 2: Erlitou

Assemble in the morning and depart for Erlitou, follow the guide to visit the main attractions, leaving ample time for photography and rest; have a local specialty meal at noon, and check in to the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Erlitou. The Erlitou site is located in Luoyang Yanshi and is acclaimed by scholars as 'the earliest China.' It is a large urban site from the mid-to-late Xia Dynasty, and artifacts such as turquoise dragon-shaped objects, bronze jue, and bronze ding have been unearthed, revealing the appearance of the first capital of the Hua Xia civilization. The turquoise dragon-shaped object is inlaid with more than two thousand pieces of turquoise and is praised as 'the first dragon of China,' serving as important evidence of dragon worship in China. The Erlitou site museum presents the archaeological site vividly and is an essential stop for studying the origins of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that visiting the site after first learning about the academic controversies regarding the 'Xia capital' will provide deeper insight when viewing the exhibits. The museum's exhibitions are carefully curated and worth viewing slowly.

Tips: The hiking sections have many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes; those with mobility issues are advised to use the cable car. Most tourists feedback that Erlitou is worth a dedicated visit. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide's explanations, and reserve time for the details that touch you most and the best photography spots. Considering practical circumstances, the biggest concern on long trips is dehydration, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently; when arriving in highlands or mountainous areas, avoid washing your hair or taking long showers on the first night to give your body some time to adjust.

Day 3: Chongdugou

Gather in the morning and depart for Chongdugou, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing enough time for taking photos and resting; have a local specialty lunch at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and replenish your energy for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Chongdugou attractions. Chongdugou is located in Luanchuan, renowned for its vast bamboo forests, waterfalls, streams, and the agricultural scenery of western Henan. It is one of the few "Jiangnan-style water town" leisure and summer retreat destinations in the area. The scenic area is divided into two sections: Jinji River and Dicui River. Jinji River is famous for its waterfalls, with splashing water and a refreshing atmosphere; Dicui River features continuous bamboo forests, creating a green and serene environment while strolling through. Here, visitors can stay in farmhouses, try wild mountain vegetables, and experience authentic life in the villages of western Henan. The pace is relaxed, making it especially suitable for slow family tours and summer vacations. My understanding is, slow down the pace and don't rush to see all the attractions—walking in the bamboo forest and sitting by the stream is the right way to enjoy Chongdugou; summer is the most comfortable time to visit, providing coolness so pleasant that you won’t want to leave.

Tips: The canyon trails are next to the water and cliffs. Do not climb over railings or play in dangerous areas, and watch your children carefully. Visitors generally feedback that most people consider Chongdugou worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide’s explanations, and leave time for the details that touch your heart most and the best photo spots. Considering the actual situation, be punctual: arrive five to ten minutes before the gathering time. It is better for the people to wait for the vehicle than for the vehicle to wait for people; don’t make everyone wait for you.
