Day 1: Longtan Grand Canyon

Gather in the morning and depart for Longtan Grand Canyon, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing plenty of time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, and check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is Longtan Grand Canyon. Located in Xin'an, Longtan Grand Canyon is a canyon famous for spectacular red rock cliffs and water flowing uphill, earning the titles "Canyon Gem" and "Natural Museum of Ancient Oceans." Trails such as Liubutan and Yixiantian offer strong opportunities for water interaction. The red cliffs and clear pools reflect each other beautifully, especially cool in summer, making it a family-friendly water destination not far from Luoyang city center. The canyon spans several kilometers, with waterfalls, deep pools, and unique stones along the way—beautiful views at every step. In my opinion, wearing anti-slip river trekking shoes or sports shoes is best, and keep valuables like phones waterproofed; families with children should take a slower pace, choose flatter trail sections, and not rush to complete the entire route.

Warm Tips: The canyon trails are close to water and cliffs, so do not climb over railings or play in dangerous areas, and watch children closely. Visitors generally report that most believe Longtan Grand Canyon is worth a dedicated visit. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo opportunities. Based on your actual situation, manage your energy carefully: tackle the main highlights in the morning when your spirit is fresh, slow down in the afternoon, and don’t exhaust yourself on the first day, or you won’t have energy for the following days.

Day 2: Chongdugou

Gather in the morning and depart for Chongdugou, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, leaving plenty of time for photos and rest; have a local specialty lunch at noon, and check into the hotel in the evening to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Chongdugou attraction. Chongdugou is located in Luanchuan, known for its vast bamboo forests, waterfalls and streams, and western Henan farming culture. It is one of the few places in Henan that offers a “Waterside Jiangnan” style summer retreat. The scenic area is divided into two sections: Jinji River and Dicui River. Jinji River is famous for its waterfalls, with splashing water that is cool and refreshing; Dicui River has continuous bamboo forests, with lush greenery all around. Here, you can stay at a farmhouse, try wild mountain vegetables, and experience the authentic rural life of western Henan. The pace is leisurely, making it especially suitable for parent-child slow trips and summer vacations. My understanding is to slow down, don't rush to see attractions—walking in the bamboo forest and sitting by the stream is the proper way to enjoy Chongdugou; visiting in summer is the most comfortable, so refreshing that you won't want to leave.

Tips: Signal may be poor in the canyon, so arrange meeting points with the tour guide in advance and avoid acting alone. Tourists generally feedback that most visitors think Chongdugou is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide for explanations, and leave time for the details that touch you the most and the best photo spots. Respect local customs according to the actual situation; dress appropriately when entering religious sites, and do not point casually—just a greeting can bring kindness.

Day 3: Longmen Grottoes

Assemble in the morning and depart for Longmen Grottoes, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, and allow ample time for taking photos and resting; have a local specialty lunch at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Longmen Grottoes attractions. Longmen Grottoes was carved on the cliff walls along the south banks of the Yi River in Luoyang. Construction continued from the time Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei moved the capital to Luoyang, spanning multiple dynasties including Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, and Tang. There are currently over 2,300 niches, more than 100,000 statues, and over 2,800 engraved steles. The most astonishing is the Vairocana Buddha of the Foguang Temple, which is over 17 meters tall, with a plump face and compassionate eyes, said to be modeled after Empress Wu Zetian, representing the pinnacle of Tang dynasty stone carving art. Together with Dunhuang Mogao Caves and Yungang in Datong, it is considered one of China's three great grottoes and is also a World Heritage site. During the visit, walk along the Yi River path from the West Mountain Grottoes heading south. Each of Binyang Cave Three, Ten Thousand Buddha Cave, and Lotus Cave has its own highlights. Cross the bridge to the East Mountain Buddha Terrace to get a panoramic view. My understanding is to first see the main cave in the West Mountain in the morning and enjoy the Buddha when it’s less crowded, then in the afternoon go to the East Mountain terrace for a distant view, as the light and angles are perfect for photos; keep in mind that you will need to walk back along both sides of the Yi River, so a pair of comfortable shoes can save a lot of effort.

Tips: Visiting the grottoes mainly involves walking and stairs. It is recommended to wear non-slip, comfortable shoes and travel light. Pay attention to your steps along the Yi River banks. Most tourists report that the Vairocana Buddha is the most striking, and the West Mountain at sunset provides the best lighting for photography. Walking back along the Yi River banks requires retracing your steps, so comfortable shoes and reserving half a day are recommended. Based on real experiences, the worst thing when joining a tour is rushing through the sites; listening to the explanations is the essence, and the cultural stories behind each site are often more memorable than photos. Ask the tour guide on the spot if you don’t understand something.

Day 4: White Horse Temple

Assemble in the morning and depart for White Horse Temple, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is White Horse Temple. White Horse Temple is located in the eastern part of Luoyang city, originally built during the Yongping era of the Eastern Han dynasty. It was constructed to commemorate the White Horse carrying Buddhist scriptures and the initial transmission of Buddhism to the Central Plains, and is honored as 'China's First Ancient Temple.' It is the first official temple built in China after the introduction of Buddhism. Inside the temple, the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, Great Buddha Hall, and Heavenly King Hall are arranged along the central axis, with incense burning continuously for over two thousand years among red walls and green cypresses. It is worth mentioning that the temple also has foreign-style Buddhist halls donated by Myanmar, Thailand, India, and other countries, showcasing the unique scenery of the eastward transmission and return flow of Buddhist culture. My understanding is to first see the main hall along the central axis, then go around to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally visit the foreign-style Buddhist halls on the sides to experience the cultural integration; visiting in the early morning when there are fewer people, with sunlight shining on the red walls and ancient cypresses, creates the most poetic atmosphere and helps avoid travel group peaks.

Warm Tips: The temple has many stone steps and thresholds, so avoid stepping on thresholds; when worshipping, follow the order and do not push. Visitors generally find that the foreign-style Buddhist halls (Thai/Myanmar/Indian courtyards) are very photogenic and feel more spacious than expected; note that the international temple area requires a lot of walking, so save some energy. Depending on the situation, to eat authentic local food, go deeper into the alleys, as lines at the main entrance are long and the food is average; for local specialties, ask for prices first and compare, as local supermarkets often offer more genuine options.
