Day 1: Wanxian Mountain

Gather in the morning and depart for Wanxian Mountain, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, and check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is at Wanxian Mountain. The Wanxian Mountain scenic area is located deep in the Taihang Mountains of Huixian, encompassing Guoliang Hanging Road and Nanping Danfen Gorge. Red cliffs and cascading waterfalls intertwine, making it one of the most representative mountain and water galleries in the Taihang Mountains. It is famous for being a filming location for numerous movies and TV series. Attractions such as Guoliang Village, Tianchi, and the watchtowers form a stunning Taihang hiking route. The summer temperature is pleasant, making it a place to experience Taihang landscapes within a short distance from Zhengzhou and Luoyang. In my understanding, the hike involves a lot of steps, so wearing non-slip shoes is essential; pay attention to passing vehicles on the hanging road. Early morning and evening light is best for photographing the red cliffs.

Tips: Mountain paths have many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with mobility issues are advised to use the cable car. Visitors commonly report that the hanging road (Guoliang Tunnel) is the most breathtaking and photo-worthy, but mountain roads often cause motion sickness; remember to bring motion sickness medicine and walk slowly on viewing platforms. In practical terms, the biggest risk on long trips is dehydration, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently. On the first night in highlands or mountains, avoid washing your hair or taking long baths to allow your body time to adjust.

Day 2: Yuntai Mountain

In the morning, gather and depart for Yuntai Mountain, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing plenty of time for photos and rest; at noon, enjoy local specialty meals, and in the evening, check into the hotel to recharge for the itinerary the next day.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Yuntai Mountain attractions. Yuntai Mountain is located in Jiaozuo Xiuwu and is one of the first batch of world geoparks. It is famous for the scarlet cliffs and green waters of Hongshi Gorge, the cascading streams of Tanpu Gorge, the 'highest waterfall in Asia' Yuntai Tianpu in Quanpu Gorge, and the sea of clouds sunrise at Zhuyu Peak. It is the most representative landscape of the southern Taihang Mountains. Hongshi Gorge is the essence among the essence, a two-kilometer-long red quartz sandstone canyon, with winding green waters at the bottom and crimson cliffs like clouds. Zhuyu Peak is famous for the Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei's poem 'Planting zhuyu everywhere, only one person is missing'; taking the cable car to the top offers a panoramic view of the Taihang peaks. Shuttle buses link various spots within the scenic area, the trails are gentle, making it suitable for family outings. My understanding is that one day is not enough to cover everything, so focus on Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley first, and be sure to allow plenty of time for queues for the shuttle bus; in summer it is refreshing for water activities, and in autumn the forest is dyed with colors, each season has its charm.

Kind Reminder: The mountain area has a large temperature difference between morning and evening, and the mountaintop is windy. A windproof jacket and warm inner layer are necessary. Tourists generally give feedback that Hongshi Gorge is considered the most photo-worthy section, and the sea of clouds at Zhuyu Peak is also worth seeing; note that the queue for the shuttle bus can be long, so if you cannot cover everything in one day, prioritize Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley. Based on actual conditions, be punctual, arrive five to ten minutes early for gatherings. It is better for the group to wait for you than for you to wait for the group—don’t make everyone wait for you.

Day 3: Guoliang Village

Gather in the morning and set off for Guoliang Village, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing plenty of time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, check in at the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Guoliang Village attractions. Guoliang Village is hidden on a cliff deep in the Taihang Mountains and is famous for the 'Cliff-Hanging Road.' In the 1970s, villagers, without any large machinery, spent more than five years chiseling a tunnel about 1,300 meters long into the sheer cliff, which is considered a 'modern-day Yugong' miracle. This cliff-hanging road is now the ultimate check-in spot in the Taihang Mountains, offering views over deep chasms and mountain villages while walking along it. Guoliang Village is also called the 'Chinese Film and TV Village' due to many film and television shoots taking place here. My advice is to allow enough time when walking on the cliff-hanging road, watch and take photos carefully, and pay attention to your steps and passing vehicles; early morning or late afternoon light is best, while noon light is rather flat. Wear non-slip shoes and don’t get too close to the cliff edge.

Tips: The ancient town offers an array of local specialties, so taste first, compare prices at several shops, and spend rationally. Tourists generally find that the cliff village is connected to the cliff-hanging road, and the filming locations have a story-like feel; note that village accommodations and food are simple, so lower your expectations to enjoy it more. Depending on the situation, don’t just focus on photos—watch your step and surroundings. Always stand firmly at viewing platforms and along the edges of walkways.

Day 4: Yin Ruins

Gather in the morning and depart for Yin Ruins, following the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing plenty of time for photography and rest; enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction introduction: This stop brings us to Yin Ruins. Yin Ruins is the site of the late Shang Dynasty capital, located in Anyang. It is the birthplace of oracle bone script and also the place where the Houmuwu Ding (formerly known as Simuwu Ding) was found. In 2006, it was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site. This was once the capital of the Shang Dynasty after King Pan Geng moved the capital to Yin, lasting for over 270 years. The remains of palaces and ancestral temples, royal tombs, and chariot and horse pits are clearly visible. Oracle bones were first discovered here, pushing China's documented history back to the Shang Dynasty. The new museum at Yin Ruins systematically displays bronze ware, jade, oracle bones, and other cultural relics, providing the most intuitive lesson for understanding Shang civilization. My understanding is that first seeing the palace and ancestral temple ruins and the chariot and horse pits helps establish a spatial concept; then going to the museum to examine the artifacts carefully connects the two lines for a complete experience. Oracle bone script and large bronze vessels are the highlights; following the guided tour is much better than a superficial visit.

Tips: The mountain trail has many steps and a steep incline—be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes, and those with mobility difficulties are advised to take the cable car. Visitors generally report that the oracle bones and the Simuwu Ding make history come alive, and many say the new museum is more worthwhile than the outdoor ruins; remember to follow the guide to understand it fully. Depending on the situation, for the best photos, go early in the morning or late in the afternoon—fewer people and soft light in the morning, golden glow at sunset is most photogenic, whereas noon has harsh overhead light and crowds, so it’s better to rest then.
