Day 1: Erlitou

Gather in the morning and depart for Erlitou, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing plenty of time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, check in at the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Erlitou. The Erlitou site is located in Yanshi, Luoyang, and is acclaimed by scholars as 'the earliest China.' It is a large urban site from the mid-to-late Xia Dynasty, and artifacts such as turquoise dragon-shaped objects, bronze jue, and bronze ding have been unearthed, revealing the appearance of the first capital of the Hua Xia civilization. The turquoise dragon-shaped object is inlaid with more than two thousand pieces of turquoise and is praised as 'the first dragon of China,' serving as important evidence of dragon worship in China. The Erlitou site museum presents the archaeological site vividly and is an essential stop for studying the origins of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that visiting the site after first learning about the academic controversies regarding the 'Xia capital' will provide deeper insight when viewing the exhibits. The museum's exhibitions are carefully curated and worth viewing slowly.

Tips: There is a large temperature difference in the mountains between morning and evening, and the wind on the mountaintop is strong, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layers are necessary. Visitors generally feedback that most think Erlitou is worth a special trip; it is recommended to slow down, follow the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. According to your actual situation, if you want authentic food, go deeper into the alleys; the queues at the main gate of the scenic area are long and the taste is average. For local specialties, ask for the price before comparing; local supermarkets often have more genuine products.

Day 2: White Horse Temple

Gather in the morning and depart for White Horse Temple, following the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for taking photos and resting; at noon, enjoy local specialty meals, and in the evening, check into the hotel to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is White Horse Temple. White Horse Temple is located in the eastern part of Luoyang city. It was originally built during the Yongping period of the Eastern Han Dynasty to commemorate the White Horse carrying Buddhist scriptures and the initial spread of Buddhism in the Central Plains. It is revered as the 'first ancient temple in China' and is the first state-sponsored temple built after Buddhism was introduced to China. Inside the temple, the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, the Great Buddha Hall, and the Hall of Heavenly Kings are arranged along the central axis, with incense burning continuously for over two thousand years among the red walls and green cypresses. Notably, the temple also features foreign-style halls donated by countries such as Myanmar, Thailand, and India, showcasing the unique landscape of the eastward spread and return flow of Buddhist culture. My understanding is to first visit the main hall along the central axis, then circle around to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally go to the side foreign-style halls to experience the cultural fusion. Visiting early in the morning when there are fewer people, with sunlight on the red walls and ancient cypresses, is the most atmospheric and also allows you to avoid the peak of tour groups.

Tips: There are many incense stalls around the temple, so purchase as needed and spend rationally. Visitors generally report that the foreign-style halls (Thai/Myanmar/Indian courtyards) are very photogenic and feel more spacious than expected. Be reminded that the international temple area involves a long walk, so conserve some energy. Considering the actual situation, manage your stamina: tackle major attractions when you are fresh in the morning and slow down in the afternoon, so you don’t exhaust yourself on the first day and end up lacking energy for the following days.

Day 3: Return Trip

Assemble in the morning and depart for Longmen Grottoes, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, with plenty of time reserved for taking photos and resting; at noon, enjoy local specialty meals, and in the evening, check in to the hotel to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Friendly reminder: On the return day, please pack your luggage the night before, and keep your ID card, power bank, and souvenirs in a place that is easy to reach, carrying valuables with you. Tourists generally report that it is easiest to be forgetful on the return day, and many visitors suggest putting your documents, power bank, and souvenirs in the same bag the night before, leaving enough time to go to the station/airport. In practice, when following a tour, the worst thing is to rush through sights; listening to explanations is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more unforgettable than the photos, so ask the guide immediately if you don’t understand something.
