Anyang 5-day tour covering Yuntai Mountain and Wanxianshan and Red Flag Canal. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Yuntai Mountain
Today's Yuntai Mountain waterside trip, connecting Hongshi Gorge, Tanpu Gorge, and Quanpu Gorge along the trails, with a gentle pace suitable for the whole family; Free retaking photos in the afternoon, rest in the evening.
Attraction introduction: Today's itinerary includes Yuntai Mountain Scenic Spot, located in Xiuwu at Jiaozuo, one of the first World Geoparks. It is famous for the red cliffs and clear waters of Hongshi Gorge, the flying waterfalls of Tanpu Gorge, the Yuntai Sky Waterfall known as Asia's highest waterfall in Quanpu Gorge, and the sea of clouds and sunrises at Zhuyu Peak. It is the most representative landscape of southern Taihang foothills. Hongshi Gorge is the essence of highlights, a red quartz sandstone canyon about two kilometers long, with winding green water at the valley floor and cliffs red like rosy clouds; Zhuyu Peak is famous for the Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei's poem "Planting cornelian cherry everywhere, one person misses." Taking the cable car to the top offers a panoramic view of the Taihang peaks. Shuttle buses connect various points within the scenic area, and the trails are gentle, suitable for family outings. My understanding is that if you can't finish the trip in one day, first secure the two core areas: Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley. If the line for scenic bus delivery is long, allow plenty of time; In summer, enjoy the water and cool scenery; in autumn, the forests are colorful—each has its own charm.
Friendly reminder: The climbing section has many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with mobility difficulties are advised to take the cable car up and down. Visitors generally say that Hongshi Gorge is recognized as the most photogenic section, and the sea of clouds at Zhuyu Peak is also worth it. Reminder to the long line for scenic pickup buses: if you can't finish it in one day, prioritize Hongshi Gorge + Monkey Valley. Based on actual conditions, don't just focus on taking photos; pay attention to your steps and surroundings. Be sure to stand firmly on the viewing platform and boardwalk edges.
Day 2: Wanxian Mountain
Gather in the morning and head to Wanxian Mountain. Follow the guide along the main route, visit the highlights one by one, and allow enough time for photos and rest; Enjoy local specialties at noon, continue deeper in the afternoon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.
Attraction introduction: One of the highlights included in the itinerary is Wanxian Mountain. Wanxian Mountain is located deep within the Taihang Mountains in Huixian, with the Guoliang Cliff Highway and Nanpingdan Valley. The red cliffs intertwine with waterfalls and clear pools, making it one of the most iconic landscape galleries of the Taihang Mountains. This area is famous for filming many TV dramas. Attractions like Guoliang Village, Tianchi, and Fortresses form a stunning Taihang hiking route. The summer temperatures are pleasant, making it a place not far from Zhengzhou and Luoyang that you can get close to the Taihang landscape. My understanding is that the hike is heavy and there are many steps, so be sure to wear non-slip shoes; Watch out for passing vehicles along the cliff-hanging road; early morning and evening light makes the red cliffs the best for photos.
Friendly reminder: The mountain area has large temperature differences between morning and evening, and the wind at the summit is strong. A windproof jacket and warm inner layer are very necessary. Visitors generally report that the cliff-hanging road (Guoliang Cave) is the most stunning and photogenic, and the mountain road often causes motion sickness. Reminder: Prepare motion sickness medicine and walk slowly on the viewing platform to explore carefully. Depending on the situation, take photos early or late—the morning is less crowded and the light is softer, the twilight is best at dusk, and the noon summit is cramped and flat, so it's better to rest.
Day 3: Red Flag Canal
Head to Red Flag Canal early to visit the memorial hall to learn about canal construction stories, then hike along the canal to Qingnian Cave to experience the spirit of perseverance in Linzhou; Free activities in the afternoon, return in the evening.
Attraction introduction: One of the highlights included in the itinerary is Red Flag Canal. Red Flag Canal is the 'artificial Heavenly River' carved by the people of Linzhou on the sheer cliffs of the Taihang Mountains in the 1960s. It is over 1,500 kilometers long, leveling 1,250 peaks, erecting more than 150 aqueducts, and drilling more than 200 tunnels. It took nearly ten years to complete, serving as a monument to the Chinese nation's spirit of self-improvement. Youth Cave is the most dangerous section of the entire route, carved out by 300 young commandos on a sheer cliff; Fenshuiyuan and Red Flag Canal Memorial Hall fully narrate the arduous canal construction. This is a combination of red education and the magnificent scenery of Taihang, and today it is also a breathtaking cultural landmark. My understanding is that you should first visit the memorial hall to understand the canal construction background, then walk through Youth Cave to truly appreciate the canal's significance; Walk along the canal within your means, wear non-slip shoes, and watch your step.
Friendly reminder: There are many slippery mountain roads, so be sure to shift your center of gravity and slow down when going downhill. Prepare a pair of knee pads. Visitors generally report that the "Artificial Tianhe" has strong spiritual landmark attributes, making it relatable to middle-aged visitors; Remind the exhibition hall that the explanations are worth listening to and helping you understand that history. Based on actual conditions, dehydration is the worst on long journeys; carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently; On the first night on the plateau or mountainous area, don't wash your hair or shower too long, giving your body some room to adjust.
