Day 1: Laojun Mountain

In the morning, take the cable car up Laojun Mountain and visit the Golden Summit Taoist Temple cluster. On clear weather days, you may encounter a sea of clouds. Have a simple meal at the mountaintop at noon. In the afternoon, walk along the Ten-Mile Painted Screen Trail, overlooking the mountains from the glass viewing platform. In the evening, descend the mountain and check into a hotel.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Laojun Mountain. Laojun Mountain is located in Luoyang, Luanchuan County. It is the main peak of the Funiu Mountains and a famous Taoist mountain. It is said to be the place where the Taoist founder Laozi retired to cultivate. The Golden Summit Taoist Temple cluster stands on the peak more than 2,000 meters above sea level. The temples have golden roofs and red walls, with clouds rolling around, earning the reputation of 'travel far to witness a feast of wonder, and see the flourishing beauty of the world.' The Ten-Mile Painted Screen is the highlight of the whole journey. This high-altitude plank road suspended on the cliff allows you to enjoy changing views of peak forests, seas of clouds, and sunrises. You can take a two-stage cable car up the mountain. On clear days, you can see the sea of clouds and sunrise from the summit. In winter, it is a popular place in the Central Plains for snow viewing. My understanding is that it is necessary to take the cable car up early to secure the best light at the Golden Summit and Ten-Mile Painted Screen. The summit is windy and cold, so a windbreaker and thermos are essential. Nervous visitors should avoid the glass viewing platform if hesitant.

Tips: The mountain has large temperature differences between morning and evening, and the summit is very windy, so a windproof jacket and warm layers are necessary. Visitors generally report that the sea of clouds and sunrise at the Golden Summit are the main highlights, with many staying on the mountaintop to wait for dawn. Be reminded that the summit has large temperature differences and cable car lines can be long, so arrive early during the peak season. Based on the actual situation, the best times for photography are early morning or late evening—few people and soft light in the morning, golden glow at sunset are ideal, whereas midday has harsh light and more crowds, so it’s better to rest then.

Day 2: Wangcheng Park

Set off from the hotel early in the morning straight to Wangcheng Park, first listen to the tour guide explain the background and highlights, then explore at leisure and retake photos at spots of interest; after lunch, take a short rest, and return to the hotel in the evening to conserve energy for the next day.

Attraction Introduction: One of the main highlights arranged in the itinerary is Wangcheng Park. Wangcheng Park is located in Luoyang and is named because it sits on the ruins of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty Royal City. It has been one of the main venues for the Chinese Luoyang Peony Culture Festival over the years and is also the most well-known city park for the citizens of Luoyang. Every April, famous peony varieties like Yao Huang, Wei Zi, and Zhao Fen bloom in competition, with a riot of colors that is spectacular; the park also preserves the Eastern Zhou Royal City ruins and a zoo, combining historical significance with leisure functions, making it a classic spot for tourists to check out the "Peony Flower City." In my understanding, if you come during the peony season (April), this should definitely be on your must-visit list, with fewer people in the early morning and peonies looking most charming with dew; outside the flowering season, it is better suited for a leisurely walk.

Tips: When visiting with children, be mindful of the risk of getting separated. Set a meeting point in advance and prepare contact cards for your child. Visitors generally feedback that most consider Wangcheng Park worth a special trip; it is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide's explanations, and reserve your time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Practically speaking, for long trips, dehydration is a concern, so carry a water bottle and sip frequently; on the first night in a plateau or mountainous area, do not bathe or wash your hair for too long, giving your body some time to adjust.

Day 3: Wanxian Mountain

Today, the theme is Wanxian Mountain. Avoid peak crowds by entering the park during off-peak hours and follow the recommended route for an in-depth visit. Have a nearby local-flavored lunch at noon. In the afternoon, enjoy free activities or join the guide for additional touring, and spend the night at a hotel to rest.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is Wanxian Mountain. The Wanxian Mountain scenic area is located deep in the Taihang Mountains of Huixian, including Guoliang Cliff Road and Nanping Danfenggou. The red cliffs interlace with waterfalls and clear pools, making it one of the most representative landscape galleries of the Taihang Mountains. It is famous for being a filming location for many movies and TV dramas. Attractions such as Guoliang Village, Tianchi, and the watchtower form an impressive Taihang hiking route. The average summer temperature is pleasant, making it a place to enjoy the Taihang scenery not far from Zhengzhou and Luoyang. In my understanding, the hiking involves a lot of walking and many steps, so wearing non-slip shoes is essential. Pay attention to passing vehicles on the cliff road section. Early morning and evening light are best for photographing the red cliffs.

Tips: The mountain hiking paths have many steps and steep slopes, so wearing non-slip sports shoes is essential; those with mobility issues are advised to take the cable car. Visitors generally report that the cliff road (Guoliang Tunnel) is the most spectacular for photos, but mountain roads can cause car sickness; it is recommended to bring motion sickness medicine and take time on observation decks. In practice, be punctual, arrive five to ten minutes before the scheduled meeting time; it's better for people to wait for the vehicle than for the vehicle to wait for one person. Don’t make everyone wait for you.
