Jiaozuo 4-Day Tour: Henan Only Show & Henan Museum
Jiaozuo 4-day tour covering Henan Only Show and Henan Museum. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Only Henan
Immerse yourself all day in 'Only Henan·Theatrical Fantasy City,' watching multiple plays according to the performance schedule, and understand the hardships and harvests of the Central Plains through the imagery of wheat waves; have lunch in the park at noon, and return after watching the main play in the evening.
Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights of the itinerary is Only Henan. 'Only Henan·Theatrical Fantasy City,' located in Zhengzhou Zhongmou, is a giant theatrical settlement built with rammed earth. Through over twenty theaters and nearly a hundred performances, it presents the suffering, harvest, and resilience of Central Plains civilization. The main theaters, such as 'Fantasy City,' 'Train Station,' and 'Li Family Village,' are highly acclaimed, while the smaller theaters each offer unique creativity. The imagery of wheat waves runs throughout, making it a phenomenal landmark of Henan cultural tourism. This is not a traditional attraction, but an immersive cultural experience. My understanding is that you must reserve a whole day, first schedule the main plays, and intersperse visits to the smaller theaters; book tickets in advance through official channels and check the performance schedule carefully, as popular shows often sell out.
Tips: The water sections in the canyon are slippery, so be sure to wear anti-slip trekking shoes or sneakers, and keep valuables like mobile phones waterproofed. Visitors generally report that while young people love the immersive experience of the Theatrical Fantasy City, tickets are expensive and it is time-consuming; it is recommended to choose the core theaters and reserve at least half a day. In practice, the worst thing about joining a group tour is rushing from place to place—listening to guided explanations is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than photos, so ask the guide immediately if you don’t understand something.
Day 2: Free activities
Early in the morning, enter Shaolin Temple, first listen to the lecture on the history of the Zen monastery, then watch martial arts performances and visit the pagoda forest; in the afternoon, enjoy free activities, you can climb Mount Song Shaoshi Mountain or reshoot at the permanent temple, and return in the evening.
Warm tips: On the free activity day, taking a taxi or walking is convenient. Check the destination route in advance and mark the stores and attractions you want to visit on the map. Many tourists generally feel that the free activity day is the most relaxing day, allowing them to follow their own pace. Considering the actual situation, be punctual, arrive five to ten minutes early for gatherings, it is better for people to wait for the vehicle than the vehicle to wait for people, don’t make everyone wait for you.
Day 3: Henan Museum
Today's Henan Museum cultural tour offers a two-hour overview of the main lineage of Chinese civilization, focusing on national treasures such as the Jiahu bone flute and the cloud-patterned bronze gui; the afternoon is free for your own arrangements, with rest in the evening.
Attractions introduction: One of the highlights in the itinerary is Henan Museum. Henan Museum is a landmark of Central Plains civilization, housing over 170,000 cultural relics. It systematically presents 'Early China' along the main theme of 'the mighty Huaxia, choosing the center to establish the capital'. Among its treasures, the Jiahu bone flute is the earliest playable instrument discovered so far, rewriting the history of Chinese music; the Duling square ding and cloud-patterned bronze gui are pinnacle creations of Shang and Zhou dynasty bronze casting; the Fu Hao owl-shaped zun has a majestic design, telling the legendary story of Fu Hao, wife of King Wu Ding; in addition, there are national treasures like the lotus and crane square hu and Emperor Wu Zetian's gold slips. It is recommended to follow a guide or rent an audio guide, as two hours is enough to get an overview of the main lineage of Chinese civilization. My understanding is to first go straight to a few key treasures for a satisfying look, then follow the chronological order to explore systematically—the most efficient way to grasp the main line; it's normal for the treasure showcases to be crowded, so knowing the display locations of the treasures in advance allows you to go straight to the main attractions and save time.
Tips: The museum is quite large, so it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and take short breaks in the rest areas if needed. Visitors generally feel that most think Henan Museum is worth a special visit. It is suggested to slow down, follow the guide, listen to explanations, and leave time for the details that touch you most and the best photo opportunities. Based on actual circumstances, manage your energy, tackling the highlights in the morning when fresh and slowing down in the afternoon, so as not to exhaust yourself on the first day and end up lacking energy for the following days.
Day 4: Return
Transfer to the departure terminal per your booked train or flight; keep travel documents and tickets in your carry-on.
