Jiaozuo 4-Day Tour: Wanxianshan & Yuntai Mountain
Jiaozuo 4-day tour covering Wanxianshan and Yuntai Mountain and Red Flag Canal. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Wanxian Mountain
Depart from the hotel early in the morning and head straight to Wanxian Mountain. First, listen to the guide explain the background and highlights, then enjoy a leisurely tour and take additional camera positions according to your interests. After lunch, take a short rest, then return to the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day.
Attraction introduction: One of the highlights included in the itinerary is Wanxian Mountain. Wanxian Mountain is located deep within the Taihang Mountains in Huixian, with the Guoliang Cliff Highway and Nanpingdan Valley. The red cliffs intertwine with waterfalls and clear pools, making it one of the most iconic landscape galleries of the Taihang Mountains. This area is famous for filming many TV dramas. Attractions like Guoliang Village, Tianchi, and Fortresses form a stunning Taihang hiking route. The summer temperatures are pleasant, making it a place not far from Zhengzhou and Luoyang that you can get close to the Taihang landscape. My understanding is that the hike is heavy and there are many steps, so be sure to wear non-slip shoes; Watch out for passing vehicles along the cliff-hanging road; early morning and evening light makes the red cliffs the best for photos.
Friendly reminder: The hiking section has many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. If you have mobility issues, it's recommended to take the cable car up and down. Visitors generally say the cliff-hanging road (Guoliang Cave) is the most stunning and photogenic, but the mountain roads often cause motion sickness. Prepare motion sickness medicine and walk slowly to the viewing platform. Based on actual conditions, leave some time for your energy. Focus on the main activity in the morning and slow down in the afternoon to avoid overexerting yourself on the first day and feeling exhausted in the following days.
Day 2: Yuntai Mountain
Today's Yuntai Mountain waterside trip connects the trails to Hongshi Gorge, Tanpu Gorge, and Quanpu Gorge, with a gentle pace suitable for the whole family; Afternoon reshoots are free, evening rest is needed.
Attraction introduction: Today's itinerary includes Yuntai Mountain Scenic Spot, located in Xiuwu at Jiaozuo, one of the first World Geoparks. It is famous for the red cliffs and clear waters of Hongshi Gorge, the flying waterfalls of Tanpu Gorge, the Yuntai Sky Waterfall known as Asia's highest waterfall in Quanpu Gorge, and the sea of clouds and sunrises at Zhuyu Peak. It is the most representative landscape of southern Taihang foothills. Hongshi Gorge is the essence of highlights, a red quartz sandstone canyon about two kilometers long, with winding green water at the valley floor and cliffs red like rosy clouds; Zhuyu Peak is famous for the Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei's poem "Planting cornelian cherry everywhere, one person misses." Taking the cable car to the top offers a panoramic view of the Taihang peaks. Shuttle buses connect various points within the scenic area, and the trails are gentle, suitable for family outings. My understanding is that if you can't finish the trip in one day, first secure the two core areas: Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley. If the line for scenic bus delivery is long, allow plenty of time; In summer, enjoy the water and cool scenery; in autumn, the forests are colorful—each has its own charm.
Friendly reminder: The mountain area has large temperature differences between morning and evening, and the wind at the summit is strong. A windproof jacket and warm inner layer are very necessary. Visitors generally say that Hongshi Gorge is recognized as the most photogenic section, and Zhuyu Peak is also worth the sea of clouds; Remind the scenic bus queue to be long: if you can't finish the trip in one day, prioritize Hongshi Gorge + Monkey Valley. Considering the actual situation and respecting local customs, dress appropriately when entering religious sites without giving casual advice; a greeting can earn goodwill.
Day 3: Red Flag Canal
Morning tour Red Flag Canal, walk through Qingnian Cave, see Fenshui Garden, and experience the "artificial Tianhe" on the Taihang cliff face; Lunch nearby at noon, and in the afternoon you can visit Taihang Grand Canyon or Wangxiangyan, return in the evening.
Attraction introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Red Flag Canal. Red Flag Canal is the "artificial heavenly river" carved by the people of Linzhou on the sheer cliffs of the Taihang Mountains in the 1960s. It is over 1,500 kilometers long, leveling 1,250 peaks, installing more than 150 aqueducts, and excavating more than 200 tunnels. It took nearly ten years to complete, serving as a monument to the Chinese nation's spirit of self-improvement. Youth Cave is the most dangerous section of the entire route, carved out by 300 young commandos from the cliffs; Fenshuiyuan and Red Flag Canal Memorial Hall fully recount the arduous canal construction process. This is a combination of red education and the magnificent scenery of Taihang, and today it is also a breathtaking cultural landmark. My understanding is that you should first visit the memorial hall to understand the canal construction background, then walk through Youth Cave to truly appreciate the canal's significance; Walk along the canal within your means, wear non-slip shoes, and watch your step.
Friendly reminder: There are many slippery mountain roads, so pay special attention when descending to shift your center of gravity and slow down. A pair of knee pads is recommended. Visitors generally report that the "Artificial Tianhe" has strong spiritual landmark attributes, making it resonate more with middle-aged visitors; They remind visitors that the exhibition hall explanations are worth listening to and helping to understand that period of history. Considering actual conditions, the biggest fear of group tours is skimming the scenery; listening to explanations is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more unforgettable than photos; if you don't understand something, ask the guide on the spot.
Day 4: Return
Transfer to the departure terminal per your booked train or flight; keep travel documents and tickets in your carry-on.
