Day 1: Wanxian Mountain

Set off early from the hotel straight to Wanxian Mountain, first listen to the tour guide explain the background and highlights, then explore freely at your own pace and retake photos according to your interests; after lunch, take a short rest, return to the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights arranged in the itinerary is Wanxian Mountain. The Wanxian Mountain Scenic Area is located deep in the Taihang Mountains in Huixian. Guoliang Hanging Road and Nanping Danfenggou are both within the area. The red cliff walls intertwine with waterfalls and clear pools, making it one of the most representative landscape galleries in the Taihang Mountains. It is famous for being a filming location for several movies and TV dramas. Attractions like Guoliang Village, Tianchi, and the watchtowers connect to form an awe-inspiring Taihang hiking route. The summer temperatures are pleasant, and it is a place where you can experience the Taihang landscapes without traveling far from Zhengzhou and Luoyang. In my understanding, the hiking involves a lot of walking and many steps, so be sure to wear non-slip shoes; pay attention to passing vehicles on the hanging road, and the red cliffs are best photographed in the early morning and evening light.

Warm Tips: The mountain hiking sections have many steps and steep gradients, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. For those with mobility issues, it is recommended to use the cable car. Tourists generally feedback that the hanging road (Guoliang Tunnel) is the most impressive and photogenic, and the mountain roads often cause motion sickness; be sure to bring motion sickness medicine and take your time at the viewing platforms. Based on actual conditions, don’t focus solely on taking photos; pay attention to your footing and surroundings, and make sure to hold on and stand firmly at the edges of viewing platforms and walkways.

Day 2: Red Flag Canal

Today's red tour: Follow the guide to visit the Youth Cave and Fen Shui Garden, and understand the feats of the 1960s; in the afternoon, you can explore the surrounding area, and rest in the evening.

Scenic Spot Introduction: One highlight of the itinerary is Red Flag Canal. Red Flag Canal is an 'artificial river' carved by the people of Linzhou on the cliffs of the Taihang Mountains in the 1960s. It has a total length of more than 1,500 kilometers, leveled 1,250 mountain peaks, built over 150 aqueducts, and drilled through more than 200 tunnels, taking nearly ten years to complete. It stands as a monument to the Chinese nation's spirit of self-improvement. The Youth Cave is the most dangerous section, carved on sheer cliffs by 300 young volunteers; Fen Shui Garden and the Red Flag Canal Memorial Hall fully describe the hardships of building the canal. This place combines red education with the grandeur of the Taihang Mountains, and today it is also an inspiring cultural site. My understanding is that visiting the memorial hall first to learn the background of the canal, then going through the Youth Cave, is the best way to truly appreciate the significance of this canal. Walk along the canal according to your ability, wear non-slip shoes, and pay attention to your footing.

Warm Tips: There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in the mountains, and the wind on the mountaintop is strong. A windproof jacket and warm layers are very necessary. Tourists generally feedback that the 'artificial river' has strong landmark significance, resonating more with middle-aged visitors; it is worth listening to the explanations in the exhibition to understand that period of history. Depending on actual situation, for photos, aim for early morning or late afternoon—mornings have fewer people and soft light, evenings have golden hues, whereas midday light is harsh and crowded, so it's better to rest then.

Day 3: Taihang Grand Canyon

Gather in the morning and set off for Taihang Grand Canyon. Follow the guide along the main route, visiting each key spot, allowing plenty of time for photos and rest. At noon, enjoy a local specialty meal, then continue exploring in the afternoon. Check into the hotel in the evening to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: One highlight of the trip is Taihang Grand Canyon. Taihang Grand Canyon spans the junction of Shanxi, Hebei, and Henan provinces, while Red Flag Canal passes through the mountains. Peach Blossom Valley, Wang Xiang Rock, and Taihang Sky Road connect grandeur with beauty, showcasing the essence of Taihang scenery. Peach Blossom Valley is famous for its cascading waterfalls and flowing springs, Wang Xiang Rock for its cliffside plank paths, and Taihang Sky Road offers sightseeing buses for a panoramic view of the canyon. In spring, mountains are full of blossoms; in autumn, forests are painted in layers. Each season has its own highlights. My understanding is that the scenic area is large and the spots are spread out, so it’s essential to plan your route and prioritize the core attractions. Hold onto railings where the plank path is steep; those who are afraid of heights should proceed according to their ability.

Tips: Signal may be poor inside the canyon, so arrange meeting points with the guide in advance and do not go alone. Tourists generally report that Peach Blossom Valley offers serene waterscapes and Taihang Sky Road is thrilling, with sights at every step. Remember to take the sightseeing bus, as weather greatly affects the experience. Based on practical experience, on long trips dehydration is the biggest concern, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently. On the first night in high-altitude or mountainous areas, avoid washing your hair or taking long baths to give your body some time to adjust.
