Jiaozuo 4-Day Tour: Yuntai Mountain & Guoliang Village
Jiaozuo 4-day tour covering Yuntai Mountain and Guoliang Village and Taihang Grand Canyon. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Yuntai Mountain
Early in the morning, take advantage of the cool weather to first visit Hongshi Gorge and Tanpu Gorge to experience the wonder of water flowing uphill; in the afternoon, you can take the cable car up to Zhuyu Peak to overlook the Taihang Mountains, and descend the mountain in the evening.
Attraction Introduction: There are several attractions in today's itinerary. One is located in Xiuwu and is one of the first world geoparks. It is famous for the red cliffs and clear waters of Hongshi Gorge, the waterfalls and streams of Tanpu Gorge, the 'Asia's tallest waterfall' Yuntai Tian Waterfall in Quanpu Gorge, and the sunrise over the sea of clouds at Zhuyu Peak. It is the most representative landscape of the southern Taihang Mountains. Hongshi Gorge is the essence of the essence, a red quartz sandstone canyon about two kilometers long, with winding clear water at the bottom and red cliffs like clouds. Zhuyu Peak is famous for a poem by the Tang dynasty poet Wang Wei: 'Everyone is inserting Zhuyu except one person'. Taking the cable car to the top provides a panoramic view of the Taihang Mountains. Shuttle buses connect various points within the scenic area, and the trails are gentle, making it suitable for family outings. My understanding is that one day is not enough to see everything, so prioritize the core attractions: Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley. Allow plenty of time for shuttle bus queues. Summer offers cool water experiences, while autumn displays colorful forests, each with its own charm.
Tips: There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in the mountains, and it is windy at the summit, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layers are necessary. Visitors generally report that Hongshi Gorge is considered the most photogenic section, and the sea of clouds at Zhuyu Peak is also worthwhile. Note that shuttle bus queues are long, so if you can't see everything in a day, prioritize Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley. Consider actual conditions, be aware of time, arrive five to ten minutes early for gatherings; it is better for people to wait for the bus than the bus to wait for people—don’t keep everyone waiting for you.
Day 2: Guoliang Village
Today's Taihang trip focuses on the cliff-hanging road and the film and television village, with distant views of the canyon villages; in the afternoon, we will take supplemental photos, and in the evening, rest.
Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is Guoliang Village, Guoliang Village is hidden on the sheer cliffs deep in the Taihang Mountains and is famous for the 'cliff-hanging road'. In the 1970s, villagers, in order to open a path to the outside world and without any large machinery, spent more than five years chiseling a tunnel about 1,300 meters long into the cliff face, which is considered a 'modern-day Foolish Old Man' miracle. Today, this cliff-hanging road is the hardest-core check-in spot in the Taihang Mountains, where walking along it allows you to overlook the abyss and canyon villages. Guoliang Village is also known as the 'Chinese Film and Television Village' because several films and TV shows have been shot here. My understanding is that when walking the cliff-hanging road, leave enough time, watch and take photos, pay attention to your footing and oncoming vehicles; the best light is in the early morning or evening, while at noon it is rather flat. Wear non-slip shoes and don’t get too close to the cliff wall.
Tips: The ancient town's specialties are dazzling; try before you buy, compare prices, and spend rationally. Tourists generally feedback that the cliff-top stone village is connected to the cliff-hanging road, and the filming locations naturally have a storytelling feel. Note that village accommodations and food are simple, so lowering expectations will increase enjoyment. In practice, don’t just focus on getting photos; pay attention to your footing and surroundings, and make sure to stand securely on viewing platforms and walkway edges.
Day 3: Taihang Grand Canyon
Assemble in the morning and depart for Taihang Grand Canyon. Follow the guide along the main route, visiting the key highlights one by one, allowing ample time for photos and rest. Enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, continue exploring in the afternoon, and check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.
Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is Taihang Grand Canyon. Taihang Grand Canyon stretches across the junction of Shanxi, Hebei, and Henan provinces, with Red Flag Canal passing through the mountains. Peach Blossom Valley, Wangxiang Rock, and Taihang Sky Road connect ruggedness with beauty, showcasing the landscapes of the Taihang Mountains. Peach Blossom Valley is known for its waterfalls and streams, Wangxiang Rock for its cliffside walkways, and Taihang Sky Road allows sightseeing buses to view the entire canyon panorama. Spring brings blooming flowers, autumn paints the forests in vibrant colors, with each season offering unique sights. My understanding is that the scenic area is large and spots are spread out, so it’s essential to plan your route and prioritize the core attractions. Hold onto railings in dangerous walkway areas, and those with a fear of heights should proceed with caution.
Friendly Tips: The water-facing sections of the canyon are slippery, so be sure to wear non-slip creek shoes or sports shoes. Protect valuables such as mobile phones from water. Visitors generally report that Peach Blossom Valley's water scenery is serene, and Taihang Sky Road is steep, with beautiful views at every step. Be reminded to take the sightseeing bus, as weather greatly affects the experience. Considering the actual situation, the best time for photos is early morning or late afternoon—fewer people and soft light in the morning, golden glow at dusk, while noon offers harsh light and crowds, making it better to rest during that time.
Day 4: Departure
Transfer to the station/airport per your departure, ending a pleasant journey.
Friendly tips: Pack the night before and keep ID, power bank and souvenirs together; allow extra time for the station/airport; bring your ID and stay with your guide, noting the meeting time and place. Traveler feedback — Return-day travelers remind: pack ID and souvenirs the night before; allow extra time. Practical note — Return-day tip: pack ID, power bank and souvenirs the night before; allow extra time—mountain roads are unpredictable.
