Day 1: Wanxian Mountain

Assemble in the morning and depart for Wanxian Mountain, following the tour guide along the main route to visit all the key attractions, allowing ample time for photography and rest; enjoy local specialty dishes at noon, continue exploring in the afternoon, and check in to the hotel in the evening to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights arranged in the itinerary is Wanxian Mountain. The Wanxian Mountain scenic area is located deep within the Taihang Mountains in Huixian. Guoliang Hanging Road and Nanping Danfeng Gully are both within this area. Red rock cliffs interweave with waterfalls and clear pools, making it one of the most representative landscape galleries of the Taihang Mountains. It is famous for being a filming location for many movies and TV shows. Attractions such as Guoliang Village, Tianchi, and the Watchtower form a breathtaking Taihang hiking route. Summers are pleasantly cool, and it is a place close to Zhengzhou and Luoyang where you can experience the Taihang landscapes. From my understanding, the hike involves a lot of steps, so make sure to wear non-slip shoes; be cautious of traffic on the hanging road segments, and the red rock cliffs are best photographed in the early morning or evening light.

Tips: There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in the mountains, and it is windy at the peaks. A windproof jacket and warm layers are necessary. Visitors generally report that the hanging road (Guoliang Tunnel) is the most impressive and photogenic, while mountain roads often cause motion sickness; it's recommended to bring motion sickness medication and take your time on the viewing platforms. Based on practical experience, the best time for photos is early morning or late evening — few people and soft light in the morning, golden glow at dusk, whereas midday light is harsh and crowded. It's more worthwhile to rest during the peak midday hours.

Day 2: Yin Ruins

Arrive early in the morning, first visit the Palace Area and the Chariots and Horses Pit, then visit the Royal Tomb Area, and follow the guide to understand the beginning of verified history; in the afternoon, visit the new museum building, and return in the evening.

Attractions Introduction: Today’s itinerary includes attractions, [0] is the Late Shang Dynasty capital site, located in [1], the birthplace of oracle bones, and also the excavation site of the Houmuwu Ding (originally called Simuwu Ding). In 2006, it was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site. This was once the capital to which King Pan Geng moved the Shang Dynasty, lasting more than 270 years. The palace and ancestral temple sites, royal tomb area, and Chariots and Horses Pit are clearly visible. Oracle bones were first discovered here, pushing the era of Chinese verified history back to the Shang Dynasty; the [0] museum's new building systematically displays bronzes, jade, oracle bones, and other cultural relics, offering the most intuitive class on understanding Shang civilization. My understanding is that first visiting the palace and ancestral temple sites and the Chariots and Horses Pit establishes a sense of space, then moving to the museum to examine artifacts in detail; following these two lines provides a complete understanding. Oracle bones and large bronzes are the essence; following the guide is far more beneficial than just a cursory visit.

Tips: There are many slippery mountain paths; especially when going downhill, pay attention to shifting your center of gravity backward and slow your steps, and it is recommended to bring a pair of knee pads. Visitors commonly feel that oracle bones and the Simuwu Ding make history ‘come alive,’ and many say the new museum building is more worthwhile than the open-air ruins. Remember to follow the explanations to fully understand. In practice, the long journey is most affected by dehydration, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently. On the first night at a high plateau or mountainous area, avoid washing your hair or taking long baths, allowing your body some time to adapt.

Day 3: Taihang Grand Canyon

Today, with Taihang Grand Canyon as the theme, avoid peak crowds by entering the park during off-peak hours, follow the recommended route for an in-depth tour; have a local-flavored lunch nearby at noon, and in the afternoon enjoy free activities or join the guide for additional sightseeing. In the evening, check into a hotel to rest.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of this itinerary is Taihang Grand Canyon. Taihang Grand Canyon spans the junction of Shanxi, Hebei, and Henan provinces, with Red Flag Canal running through the mountains. Peach Blossom Valley, Wangxiang Rock, and the Taihang Sky Road connect grandeur with beauty, offering a concentrated display of Taihang scenery. Peach Blossom Valley is known for its waterfalls and flowing springs, Wangxiang Rock is famous for its cliffside walkways, and the Taihang Sky Road allows visitors to view the entire canyon by sightseeing bus. In spring, the mountains are filled with blooming flowers, in autumn, the forests are blazing with colors, and each season has its highlights. My understanding is that the scenic area is large and the attractions are dispersed, so it is essential to plan your route properly and prioritize the core attractions; hold onto railings at steep walkways, and friends who are afraid of heights should proceed according to their capability.

Tips: Canyon water routes are slippery, so be sure to wear anti-slip creek shoes or sports shoes, and keep valuables like mobile phones waterproofed. Visitors generally feedback that Peach Blossom Valley's water scenery is tranquil, and the Taihang Sky Road is steep, with scenic views at every step; taking the sightseeing bus is a must, as weather can greatly affect the experience. Based on actual circumstances, keep strong time awareness, arrive five to ten minutes early for gatherings; it is better for people to wait for the vehicle than for the vehicle to wait for people, don’t make everyone wait for you.
