Day 1: Yuntai Mountain

Early in the morning, take advantage of the cool weather to first visit Hongshi Gorge and Tanpu Gorge to experience the wonder of water flowing uphill; in the afternoon, you can take the cable car up to Zhuyu Peak to overlook the Taihang Mountains, and descend in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes several attractions, with one located in Xiuwu, which is one of the first batch of world geological parks. It is famous for the red cliffs and green waters of Hongshi Gorge, the waterfalls and streams of Tanpu Gorge, the 'tallest waterfall in Asia' Yuntai Tianpu in Quanpu Gorge, and the sea of clouds sunrise at Zhuyu Peak. It is the most representative landscape of the southern Taihang Mountains. Hongshi Gorge is the essence among the essence, a 2-kilometer-long red quartz sandstone canyon, with winding emerald waters at the bottom and crimson cliffs like clouds; Zhuyu Peak is famous due to the Tang dynasty poet Wang Wei's verse 'Planting zhuyu everywhere, one person less,' and taking the cable car to the top allows for a panoramic view of the Taihang peaks. Shuttle buses connect the scenic spots, the paths are gentle, making it suitable for family travel. My understanding is that one day is not enough to cover everything, so first focus on Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley, and allow plenty of time for queues for the scenic shuttle. Summer is great for enjoying the water and cooling off, and autumn is beautiful with the forest in full color, each season offers its own charm.

Tips: The mountain trails have many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with mobility issues are advised to use the cable car. Visitors generally feedback that Hongshi Gorge is the most photogenic section, and the sea of clouds at Zhuyu Peak is also worth seeing. Keep in mind that queues for the scenic shuttle can be long, so if you can't cover everything in one day, prioritize Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley. Considering practical situations, the greatest worry on long trips is dehydration, so keep a water bottle handy and drink small amounts frequently. On the first night in the plateau or mountainous areas, avoid washing your hair or bathing for too long to give your body some time to adjust.

Day 2: Red Flag Canal

Today's red-themed journey: follow the guide to explore Qingniandong and Fenshuiyuan to understand the remarkable feats of the 1960s; in the afternoon, you can optionally visit nearby areas, and rest in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Red Flag Canal. Red Flag Canal is an 'artificial river in the sky' dug by the people of Linzhou on the cliffs of the Taihang Mountains in the 1960s. It has a total length of more than 1,500 kilometers, leveling 1,250 mountain tops, constructing over 150 aqueducts, and digging over 200 tunnels, taking nearly ten years to complete. It stands as a monument to the spirit of self-improvement of the Chinese nation. Qingniandong is the most dangerous section, dug by 300 youth assault team members on the cliff; Fenshuiyuan and the Red Flag Canal Memorial Hall comprehensively narrate the hardships of building the canal. This place combines red education with the magnificent scenery of the Taihang Mountains and is now a stunning cultural landscape. My understanding is that visiting the Memorial Hall first to learn the background of the canal construction, and then walking through Qingniandong, is the way to truly grasp the significance of this canal; hike along the canal according to your capability, wear non-slip shoes, and watch your step.

Tips: There is a large temperature difference in the mountains in the morning and evening, and the mountaintop is windy; a windproof jacket and warm inner layers are very necessary. Visitors generally reflect that the 'Artificial River in the Sky' has a strong spiritual landmark value, with middle-aged tourists resonating more; it is worth listening to the exhibition explanations to understand that period of history. Considering the actual situation, punctuality is important—arrive at the assembly point five to ten minutes in advance. It is better for people to wait for the vehicle than for the vehicle to wait for people; don't make the group wait for you.

Day 3: Taihang Grand Canyon

Gather in the morning and depart for Taihang Grand Canyon. Follow the guide along the main route, visiting all the key spots, allowing plenty of time for photos and rest. At noon, enjoy local specialty dishes, and in the afternoon continue exploring. In the evening, check into the hotel to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights of the trip is Taihang Grand Canyon. Taihang Grand Canyon spans the junction of Shanxi, Hebei, and Henan provinces, with Red Flag Canal cutting through the mountains. Peach Blossom Valley, Wangxiang Rock, and Taihang Sky Road connect the majestic and the beautiful, showcasing the scenery of the Taihang Mountains. Peach Blossom Valley is famous for its waterfalls and streams, Wangxiang Rock is known for its cliffside walkways, and Taihang Sky Road offers sightseeing buses to view the whole canyon panorama. Spring brings blooming flowers, autumn brings colorful forests, and each season has its own highlights. My understanding is that the scenic area is large and the attractions are spread out, so it is essential to plan the route and prioritize the main spots; hold onto the railings on steep walkways, and those afraid of heights should act according to their limits.

Warm Tips: Signal may be weak inside the canyon, so set rendezvous points with the guide in advance and do not go off alone. Tourists generally find that Peach Blossom Valley has tranquil waters and Taihang Sky Road is steep, with scenery at every step. Take the shuttle bus as required, and note that weather can greatly affect the experience. In actual situations, don’t just focus on taking photos—pay attention to your footing and surroundings, and make sure to stand firmly while on viewing platforms and walkway edges.
