Jiaozuo 5-Day Tour: Scenic Area & Yuntai Mountain
Jiaozuo 5-day tour covering Scenic Area and Yuntai Mountain and Wanxianshan. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Jiaozuo
Enter Yuntai Mountain in the morning, take the scenic shuttle and bus first to visit Hongshixia and Danxia, then walk through Tanpu Gorge and overlapping waters; Have a light lunch at the scenic area in the afternoon, climb Zhuyu Peak or stroll through Quanpu Gorge in the afternoon, and return to the hotel in the evening.
Attraction introduction: Today's itinerary includes Jiaozuo attractions, Jiaozuo boasts Yuntai Mountain Global Geopark, Red Stone Gorge's red cliffs and clear waters, pools and gorges with flying waterfalls, and Zhuyu Peak at sea of clouds and sunrises—the ultimate collection of the essence of Taihang's landscape. My understanding is that hiking should be done within your means. Cable cars should be saved wherever possible, but those with knee problems shouldn't push themselves to hike—the scenery is not about pushing yourself.
Friendly reminder: The climbing section has many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with mobility difficulties are advised to take the cable car up and down. Visitors generally report that Jiaozuo is worth a special trip. It's recommended to slow down, follow the guide's explanation, and save time for the most impressive details and camera spots. Given the situation, be punctual. Gather five to ten minutes early. Better to wait for the bus than for the car—don't make everyone wait for you.
Day 2: Yuntai Mountain
Set off from the hotel early in the morning and head straight to Wanxian Mountain. First, listen to the guide's explanation of the background and highlights, then enjoy a leisurely tour and take photos of the camera as you like. After lunch, take a short rest, then return to the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day.
Attraction introduction: Today's itinerary includes Yuntai Mountain attractions. Located in Jiaozuo Xiuwu, it is one of the first World Geoparks. It is famous for the red cliffs and clear waters of Hongshi Gorge, the flying waterfalls of Tanpu Gorge, the "Asia's tallest waterfall" Yuntai Sky Waterfall at Quanpu Gorge, and the sea of clouds at Zhuyu Peak, making it the most representative scenic landscape on the southern foothills of Taihang. Hongshi Gorge is the essence of highlights, with about two kilometers of red quartz sandstone canyon with winding green water at the valley floor and cliffs red like rosy clouds; Zhuyu Peak is famous for the Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei's line "Planting cornelian cherry everywhere, but one person is short." Taking the cable car to the top offers a panoramic view of the Taihang peaks. Shuttle buses connect various points within the scenic area, and the trails are gentle, suitable for family outings. My understanding is that if you can't finish the trip in one day, first secure the two core areas: Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley. If the line for scenic bus delivery is long, allow plenty of time; In summer, enjoy the water and cool scenery; in autumn, the forests are colorful—each has its own charm.
Friendly reminder: The mountain area has large temperature differences between morning and evening, and the wind at the summit is strong. A windproof jacket and warm inner layer are very necessary. Visitors generally say that Red Stone Gorge is recognized as the most photogenic section, and the sea of clouds at Zhuyu Peak is also worth it. Reminder: If you can't finish the bus in one day, prioritize Red Stone Gorge + Monkey Valley. Based on actual conditions, don't just focus on taking photos—pay attention to your steps and surroundings, and be sure to stand firmly at the edge of the viewing platform and boardwalk.
Day 3: Wanxian Mountain
Today's Red Flag Canal Red Tour: Follow the guide through Youth Cave and Fenshui Garden to understand the feats of the 1960s; In the afternoon, you can also visit the surrounding area, and rest in the evening.
Attraction introduction: One highlight of the itinerary is Wanxian Mountain. Wanxian Mountain is located deep in the Taihang Mountains of Huixian. The Guoliang Cliff Highway and Nanpingdan Branch are both within it. The red cliffs intertwine with waterfalls and clear pools, making it one of the most iconic landscape galleries of the Taihang Mountains. This area is famous for filming many TV dramas. Attractions like Guoliang Village, Tianchi, and Blockhouses form a stunning Taihang hiking route. The summer temperatures are pleasant, and it's a place not far from Zhengzhou and Luoyang that you can get close to the Taihang landscape. My understanding is that the hike is heavy and there are many steps, so be sure to wear non-slip shoes; Watch out for passing traffic along the cliff-hanging road; morning and evening light makes the red cliffs the best for photos.
Friendly reminder: There are many slippery parts on the mountain roads, so especially when going downhill, pay attention to shifting your center of gravity and slowing down. A pair of knee pads is recommended. Visitors generally report that the cliff-hanging road (Guoliang Cave) is the most impressive and photogenic, and mountain roads often cause motion sickness; Prepare motion sickness medicine and walk slowly on the viewing platform to take a closer look. Depending on the situation, take photos early or late—early mornings with few people and soft light, golden glow at dusk for best photos; noon tops are cramped and flat, so it's more cost-effective to rest.
