Day 1: Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden

Arrive in the morning, walk through the streets restored based on 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival,' watch folk performances and live reenactments; for lunch try Bianliang snacks, and in the afternoon continue exploring the gardens or take a night tour of the Song Capital Imperial River to experience the prosperity of Northern Song Bianjing.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights in the itinerary is Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden is located in Kaifeng, a Song culture-themed park built based on Zhang Zeduan's 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival' from the Northern Song Dynasty. It reproduces the Rainbow Bridge, Bian River, markets, and taverns from the painting, showcasing the bustling scenes of Tokyo Bianliang. The park features live performances and folk parades throughout the day. The most famous show is the night water performance 'The Great Song: Dream of the Eastern Capital,' which recreates the grandeur of the Northern Song capital with lights and projections. During the day, visitors can watch the opening ceremony, Bao Gong welcoming guests, and Wang Yuanwai's matchmaking immersive folk performances. This is also a paradise for Hanfu enthusiasts—put on a Song-style Hanfu and walk between Rainbow Bridge and the Bian River, and any photo will look like a beautiful ancient-style scene. My understanding is that upon entering the park, you should first get the performance schedule, plan the must-see shows and night performance times, and then wander and eat casually; wandering the market during the day is the most immersive, while the night performance is a visual and auditory feast. If your budget allows, it is worth watching.

Tips: Food and drinks in the park are relatively expensive, so you can bring water and snacks, and be mindful of your belongings. Tourists generally feel that wandering the market during the day is the most immersive, while the night show 'The Great Song: Dream of the Eastern Capital' receives mixed reviews; note that tickets for performances are relatively pricey, so plan according to your budget. Depending on the situation, keep ID and wallet separate, photograph important documents and store backups on your phone—if lost, you can quickly reissue them without delaying your trip.

Day 2: Only Henan

Early in the morning, enter the Drama Fantasy City, first watch the main theater performances, then hop over to the smaller theaters; in the afternoon, choose performances freely and immerse yourself in Central Plains civilization, and return in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is the Drama Fantasy City. Located in Zhongmu, it is a giant theatrical settlement built with rammed earth. Through more than twenty theaters and nearly a hundred performances, it showcases the suffering, harvest, and resilience of Central Plains civilization. The main theater performances such as 'Fantasy City,' 'Train Station,' and 'Li Family Village' are highly acclaimed, while the smaller theaters are full of creative ideas, with the imagery of wheat fields running throughout. It is a phenomenal cultural tourism landmark. This is not a traditional attraction, but an immersive cultural experience. My understanding is that you should definitely reserve a whole day, schedule the main theater first, and then intersperse visits to smaller theaters; book tickets in advance through official channels and check the performance schedule carefully, as popular shows often sell out.

Tips: Signal within the canyon may be weak, so agree on a meeting point with your guide in advance and avoid acting alone. Tourists generally report that young people enjoy the immersive experience at Drama Fantasy City, but tickets are expensive and it takes time; it's recommended to choose the core theaters and reserve at least half a day. Based on actual conditions, carry some small change and snacks with you, as the park has poor signal and may be useful for temporary purchases, so don’t wait until you’re hungry to look for them.

Day 3: Shaolin Temple

Today's trip, from the mountain gate to the Sutra Pavilion, involves careful observation along the way, with a focus on feeling the solemnity of the Pagoda Forest and the impact of the martial arts performance; in the afternoon, visit the surrounding area, and in the evening, check into the hotel.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes attractions, located at Shaoshi Mountain's Five Milk Peaks in Dengfeng. It was first built in the 19th year of the Taihe era of the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 495). It is both the ancestral home of Zen Buddhism and the birthplace of Shaolin martial arts, with a history of more than fifteen hundred years. The main highlights are concentrated in three areas: Changzhuyuan follows the central axis in sequence—Mountain Gate, Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, Sutra Pavilion, and Lixue Pavilion, with halls and ancient steles laid out along the way; the Pagoda Forest is the largest ancient pagoda complex still existing in China, with over two hundred brick and stone tomb pagodas from the Tang, Song, to Qing dynasties, each corresponding to a high monk; the Bodhidharma Cave on the Five Milk Peaks is traditionally considered the place where Bodhidharma meditated facing the wall for nine years. The Martial Arts Hall performs Shaolin martial arts daily at set times, showcasing the true skill of fists, weapons, and hard qigong. My understanding is to first walk the central axis with the guide before observing freely; please remain quiet and walk around the Pagoda Forest; for the martial arts performance, arrive fifteen minutes in advance to get a good seat.

Friendly Tips: Please stay quiet and dress neatly when entering the temple; generally, photography and touching religious instruments inside the halls are not allowed, and offerings can be made voluntarily. Tourists generally report that the martial arts performance is most favored by families with children, while the Pagoda Forest and the Ancestral Temple are often overlooked. Note that commercial activities in the scenic area are obvious, so check prices first for vegetarian meals and surrounding expenses. Depending on actual conditions, mountain weather can change suddenly, so a windproof jacket is more practical than anything else; choose non-slip, comfortable shoes, and it is better to take fewer photos than to sprain your ankle.
