Day 1: Taihang Grand Canyon

Gather in the morning and set off for Taihang Grand Canyon. Follow the tour guide along the main route, visiting all the highlights one by one, with plenty of time reserved for photos and rest. At noon, enjoy a local specialty meal, then continue exploring in the afternoon. In the evening, check into the hotel to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction introduction: A highlight of the trip is Taihang Grand Canyon. Taihang Grand Canyon stretches across the junction of Shanxi, Hebei, and Henan provinces, with Red Flag Canal running through the mountains. Peach Blossom Valley, Wangxiang Rock, and Taihang Sky Road connect grandeur and beauty, representing a concentrated display of Taihang scenery. Peach Blossom Valley is known for its waterfalls and streams, Wangxiang Rock for its cliffside plank roads, and Taihang Sky Road allows tourists to take a sightseeing bus to view the entire canyon. In spring, the mountains bloom with flowers; in autumn, the forests are colorful, offering visual delights in all seasons. My understanding is that the scenic area is large and the attractions are spread out; it is essential to plan the route well and prioritize the main attractions. Hold on to handrails on steep plank roads, and those afraid of heights should proceed carefully.

Warm tips: The canyon's water-accessible paths can be slippery, so wear anti-slip water shoes or sneakers, and waterproof your valuables like phones. Visitors generally report that Peach Blossom Valley has serene water scenery, while Taihang Sky Road is steep and dramatic, with picturesque views at every step. Remember to take the sightseeing bus, as weather can greatly affect the experience. For authentic local food, venture deeper into alleyways; the lines at the main entrance may be long, and the taste ordinary. For local specialties, ask for the price and compare; local supermarkets are often more reliable.

Day 2: Yin Ruins

Arrive early in Yin Ruins, first visit the palace area and the chariot and horse pits, then explore the royal tomb area, following the guide to understand the beginning of recorded history; in the afternoon, visit the new museum, and return in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Yin Ruins attractions. Yin Ruins is the site of the late Shang Dynasty capital, located in Anyang. It is the hometown of oracle bones and also the place where the Houmuwu Ding (formerly called Simuwu Ding) was found. In 2006, it was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site. It was once the capital after King Pan Geng of the Shang Dynasty moved to Yin, lasting more than 270 years. The remains of the palace and ancestral temples, the royal tomb area, and the chariot and horse pits are clearly visible. Oracle bones were first discovered here, pushing the era of recorded Chinese history back to the Shang Dynasty. The new museum of Yin Ruins systematically displays bronzes, jade artifacts, oracle bones, and other cultural relics, making it the most intuitive classroom for understanding Shang civilization. My understanding is that first visiting the palace and ancestral temple ruins and the chariot and horse pits helps establish a spatial concept, then going into the museum to study the artifacts in detail; the two lines together give a complete picture. Oracle bones and large bronze artifacts are the essence, and following the guide is far better than a cursory glance.

Tips: The mountain area has large temperature differences between morning and evening, and the mountaintop is windy, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layers are necessary. Visitors generally feedback that oracle bones and the Simuwu Ding make history come alive, and many say the new museum is more worthwhile than the open-air ruins. Remember to combine your visit with the guide's explanation to understand it. Depending on your actual situation, allocate your energy wisely: tackle the main attractions in the morning when you are fresh, slow down in the afternoon, and avoid exhausting yourself on the first day so you have energy for the following days.

Day 3: Red Flag Canal

Today's red tour: Follow the guide to visit Youth Cave and Fen Shui Garden to understand the feats of the 1960s; in the afternoon, you can visit nearby areas, and rest in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Red Flag Canal. Red Flag Canal is an 'artificial river in the sky' dug by the people of Linzhou on the cliffs of the Taihang Mountains in the 1960s. It has a total length of more than 1,500 kilometers, leveling 1,250 mountain tops, constructing over 150 aqueducts, and digging over 200 tunnels, taking nearly ten years to complete. It stands as a monument to the spirit of self-improvement of the Chinese nation. Youth Cave is the most dangerous section, excavated on sheer cliffs by 300 youth volunteers; Fen Shui Garden and the Red Flag Canal Memorial Hall completely narrate the arduous process of digging the canal. This place combines red education with the magnificent Taihang scenery, and today it is also an awe-inspiring cultural site. In my understanding, visiting the memorial hall first to learn about the background of the canal construction, and then walking through Youth Cave, is the way to truly grasp the significance of the canal; hike along the canal according to your ability, wear non-slip shoes, and watch your step.

Tips: Many mountain paths are slippery, especially going downhill—carefully shift your weight backward and slow down, knee pads may be useful. Visitors generally feel that the 'artificial river in the sky' has a strong spiritual landmark value, which resonates more with middle-aged tourists; pay attention to the guided explanation in the exhibition hall to truly understand that period of history. According to the actual situation, respect local customs, dress appropriately when entering religious sites, do not point casually, and a simple greeting can be warmly reciprocated.
