Day 1: Yangtze River Three Gorges

Gather in the morning and set off for the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. Follow the guide along the main route, visiting all the key highlights, leaving ample time for taking photos and resting; enjoy local specialty cuisine at noon, and continue exploring in the afternoon. Arrive at the hotel in the evening to rest and recharge for the next day’s itinerary.

Attractions introduction: Today’s itinerary includes the Yangtze River Three Gorges, which consist of Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge, and Xiling Gorge. They are famous for being majestic, graceful, and steep. The Kuimen in Qutang Gorge is depicted on the back of the ten-yuan banknote. The twelve peaks of Wu Gorge and the Goddess Peak are highly evocative, while Xiling Gorge is known for the Three Gorges Dam and Gezhou Dam. Cruising through the gorges by ship, the green mountains on both sides resemble a painting and represent the most classic scenery of the Yangtze River. In my understanding, it is important to choose a good deck position when taking a cruise to see the Three Gorges; the river views are most beautiful in the early morning and at dusk, and be mindful of strong river winds and the significant temperature differences between morning and evening.

Friendly tips: The gorge trails are close to water and cliffs, so do not climb over railings or play in dangerous areas, and watch children carefully. Visitors generally respond that seeing the gorges by cruise is the most relaxed, and they say Qutang Gorge is the most magnificent. Remind yourself to choose the right cabin. Visiting Fengdu Ghost City depends on personal interest. In practical terms, if you want authentic food, go deeper into the alleys; the queues at the main entrances of scenic spots are long and the food is usually ordinary. For specialties, ask for the price before comparing; local supermarkets often offer more genuine products.

Day 2: Three Gorges Dam

Set off early from the hotel straight to the Three Gorges Dam. First, listen to the tour guide's explanation of the background and highlights, then take a leisurely stroll at your own pace and revisit photo spots that interest you. After lunch, take a short rest and return to the hotel in the evening to build up energy for the next day.

Attraction Introduction: One of the main highlights on the itinerary is the Three Gorges Dam, located in Yichang, Hubei. It is the world's largest hydropower project, with a magnificent and imposing dam. The Tanziling Viewing Platform offers a panoramic view of the dam, while the 185 Platform lets you observe it up close. The Closure Commemoration Park records its construction history. This place is an excellent classroom for understanding China's water engineering projects. My understanding is to first go to Tanziling to see the full view, then head to the 185 Platform for a closer experience of the dam’s grandeur; as a national key project, following the guide during the visit helps to truly appreciate its significance.

Tips: Signal may be poor inside the gorge, so agree on a meeting point with the tour guide in advance and avoid going alone. Visitors generally report that most think the Three Gorges Dam is worth a dedicated visit. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide’s explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Based on actual conditions, manage your stamina by doing the main highlights in the morning while you're fresh, and slowing down in the afternoon. Don’t exhaust yourself on the first day, or you’ll have no energy for the following days.
