Jiaozuo 4-day tour covering Shaolin Temple and Henan Museum and Guoliang Village. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Shaolin Temple
Morning: Visit the Main Monastery and Pagoda Forest, and watch the Shaolin martial arts performance according to the scheduled sessions; at noon, try local cuisine from Dengfeng. In the afternoon, you can visit Songyang Academy or Chuzu Temple, fully understanding Chan and martial arts culture in one day.
Attraction introduction: Today's itinerary includes several attractions, located at the foot of Shaoshi Mountain in Dengfeng. It is the ancestral court of Chan Buddhism and the birthplace of Shaolin martial arts. The Main Monastery, Pagoda Forest, and Chuzu Temple are well preserved, with daily Shaolin martial arts performances. You can also visit Songyang Academy and Songyue Pagoda to deeply understand the significance of "the center of heaven and earth" in one day. Among these, the Main Monastery (Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, Sutra Library), Pagoda Forest, and Chuzu Temple are the most worth a detailed visit.
Tips: There is a lot of walking throughout the tour, so it is recommended to wear comfortable sports shoes and bring a light jacket depending on the weather; be sure to carry your ID and other valid documents, follow the guide at all times, and remember the assembly time and place. Visitors generally report that the martial arts performance is most popular with families, while the Pagoda Forest and Chuzu Temple are often overlooked. Be aware that the scenic area is highly commercialized, so inquire about the prices for vegetarian meals and nearby expenses. Depending on the situation, the temple vegetarian meals are worth a try, while outside the temple, vegetarian restaurants vary in quality, so it is recommended to choose those inside the temple or a well-reputed old establishment.
Day 2: Henan Museum
Arrive early at Henan Museum and follow the 'Early China' main route to examine each hall in detail, focusing on the stories behind the national treasures; in the afternoon, enjoy free activities, such as additional photography or exploring the surrounding area.
Attraction Introduction: This stop is at Henan Museum, which is the coordinate of Central Plains civilization. The museum houses over 170,000 artifacts. National treasures such as the Jiahu bone flutes, Duling square tripod, Fuhao owl-shaped zun, and cloud-patterned bronze ritual vessel comprehensively present 'Early China'. It is recommended to tour with a guide; two hours is enough to get an overview of the core of Chinese civilization.
Tips: The visit involves a lot of walking, so it is recommended to wear comfortable sports shoes and bring a light jacket depending on the weather. Be sure to bring your ID and other valid documents, follow the guide throughout, and remember the meeting times and places. Most visitors feel that Henan Museum is worth visiting specifically, so it is suggested to slow down, listen to the guide’s explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Considering the actual situation, the museum's treasures (such as the Jiahu bone flutes and Fuhao owl-shaped zun) are worth a close look. Admission is free but requires a timed reservation.
Day 3: Guoliang Village
Today's Taihang trip focuses on the cliff-hanging road and the film and television village, with a view of the canyon village; in the afternoon there will be additional shooting, and in the evening we will rest.
Attraction Introduction: One highlight arranged in the itinerary is Guoliang Village, Guoliang Village hidden on the cliffs of Taihang, famous for the 'hanging road' — villagers spent several years carving tunnels into the cliff by hand. You can walk through the hanging road, visit the film and television village, and overlook the thousand-meter-deep canyon and village, making it one of the most hardcore check-in spots in the Taihang Mountains. Among them, the hanging road, Guoliang Cave, and Tianchi are the most worth a careful look.
Tips: The itinerary includes mountain roads, with large temperature differences between morning and evening and many steps. It is recommended to wear a light jacket and non-slip sports shoes, and pay attention to your footing when climbing steps. Be sure to carry your ID and other valid documents, follow the guide throughout, and remember the meeting times and places. Tourists generally report that the cliff-side stone village is connected to the hanging road, and the filming locations have a built-in sense of story; note that lodging and food in the village are simple, so lowering expectations leads to greater enjoyment. Depending on the situation, the Guoliang hanging road cliffs are steep, and for safety, do not climb over railings when taking photos at the viewing platform; visiting waterfalls is better in the rainy season.
