Jiaozuo 3-Day Tour: Shaolin Temple & Guoliang Village
Jiaozuo 3-day tour covering Shaolin Temple and Guoliang Village. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Shaolin Temple
Morning: Visit the Main Monastery and Pagoda Forest, and watch the Shaolin martial arts performance according to the scheduled showtimes; at noon, try local Dengfeng cuisine. In the afternoon, you can visit Songyang Academy or Chuzu Temple, fully understanding Chan and martial arts culture in one day.
Attraction introduction: Today's itinerary includes several attractions. The Main Monastery is located at the foot of Shaoshi Mountain in Dengfeng, the birthplace of Chan Buddhism and Shaolin martial arts. The Main Monastery, Pagoda Forest, and Chuzu Temple are well-preserved and feature daily Shaolin martial arts performances. You can also visit Songyang Academy and Songyue Pagoda to deeply understand the significance of "the center of heaven and earth" in one day. Among these, the Main Monastery (including the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, and Sutra Library), the Pagoda Forest, and Chuzu Temple are the most worthwhile to explore in detail.
Tips: The tour involves a lot of walking, so it is recommended to wear comfortable sports shoes and bring a light jacket depending on the weather; be sure to carry your ID and other valid documents, follow the guide throughout, and remember the meeting time and place. Visitors generally feedback that the martial arts performance is most popular with family groups, while the Pagoda Forest and Chuzu Temple are often overlooked on the route. Note that the scenic area is highly commercialized, so check the prices for vegetarian meals and surrounding expenses in advance. Considering practical conditions, the vegetarian meals are worth trying; the quality of vegetarian restaurants outside the temple varies, so it is recommended to choose those inside the temple or well-reputed establishments.
Day 2: Guoliang Village
Early in the morning, head to Guoliang Village, and walk along the cliff-hanging road in the morning light to feel the shock of tunnels carved into the cliffside; in the afternoon, enjoy free activities, and you can explore Wanxian Mountain Danfeng Gully, returning in the evening.
Attraction Introduction: At this stop, you arrive at Guoliang Village, which is hidden on the cliffs of the Taihang Mountains and is famous for its 'cliff-hanging road' — villagers spent years manually carving tunnels into the cliffside. You can walk through the cliff-hanging road, visit film villages, and overlook the abyss and canyon villages; it is one of the most hardcore check-in spots in the Taihang Mountains. Among them, the cliff-hanging road, Guoliang Tunnel, and Tianchi are the most worthwhile to see in detail.
Friendly Tips: The itinerary includes mountain road sections, with large temperature differences between morning and evening and many steps. It is recommended to wear a light jacket and non-slip sports shoes, and pay attention to your footing when climbing steps; be sure to bring your ID and other valid documents, follow the tour guide throughout, and remember the meeting times and locations. Tourists generally report that the cliffside stone village is connected to the cliff-hanging road, and the film shooting locations have their own storytelling charm; note that village accommodations and food are simple—lowering expectations makes the experience more enjoyable. Based on actual conditions, the Guoliang cliff-hanging road is steep, so be careful when taking photos at viewpoints and do not climb over railings; the waterfall looks better in the rainy season.
Day 3: Departure
Transfer to the station/airport per your departure, ending a pleasant journey.
Friendly tips: Pack the night before and keep ID, power bank and souvenirs together; allow extra time for the station/airport; bring your ID and stay with your guide, noting the meeting time and place. Traveler feedback — Return-day travelers remind: pack ID and souvenirs the night before; allow extra time. Practical note — Return-day tip: pack ID, power bank and souvenirs the night before; allow extra time—mountain roads are unpredictable.
