Jiaozuo 4-Day Tour: Wangcheng Park & Wanxianshan
Jiaozuo 4-day tour covering Wangcheng Park and Wanxianshan and Guoliang Village. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Wangcheng Park
Gather in the morning and set off for Wangcheng Park, follow the guide to visit the main attractions, leaving ample time for photos and rest; have a local specialty meal at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.
Attraction Introduction: One highlight arranged in the itinerary is Wangcheng Park. Wangcheng Park is located in Luoyang, named because it sits on the site of the Eastern Zhou royal city ruins. It is one of the main venues of the China Luoyang Peony Culture Festival and also the most familiar city park for Luoyang citizens. Every April, famous peony varieties such as Yao Huang, Wei Zi, and Zhao Fen bloom in competition, displaying a dazzling array of colors and a spectacular scene. The park also preserves the Zhou royal city ruins and has a zoo, combining historical heritage with recreational functions, making it a classic spot for tourists visiting the "Peony Flower City." My understanding is that if you come during the peony season (April), this should be a must-visit place; early morning has fewer people, and the peonies with morning dew are the most beautiful. Outside the bloom season, it is more suitable for a leisurely walk.
Warm Tips: When visiting the park with children, pay attention to the risk of getting separated, set a meeting point in advance, and give the child a contact information card. Visitors generally report that most believe Wangcheng Park is worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that touch you most and the best photo spots. Considering the actual situation, mountain weather can change quickly, so a windproof jacket is more practical than anything else; shoes must be non-slip and comfortable, and it’s better to take fewer photos than to twist your ankle.
Day 2: Wanxian Mountain
Gather in the morning and depart for Wanxian Mountain, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, and check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.
Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights of the itinerary is Wanxian Mountain. The Wanxian Mountain scenic area is located deep in the Taihang Mountains of Huixian, including attractions such as Guoliang Cliff Road and Nanping Danfen Gorge. The red cliffs and cascading waterfalls form one of the most representative landscape galleries of the Taihang Mountains. This place is famous for being a filming location for multiple movies and TV series. Attractions like Guoliang Village, Tianchi, and the watchtower create an impressive Taihang hiking route. The summer temperature is pleasant, making it a great place to get close to the Taihang landscape, not far from Zhengzhou and Luoyang. My understanding is that the hiking involves a lot of walking and steps, so wearing anti-slip shoes is a must; pay attention to incoming and outgoing vehicles on the cliff road section, and the morning and evening light is best for photographing the red cliffs.
Tips: The hiking portions have many steps and steep slopes, so wear anti-slip sports shoes. Those with difficulty walking are advised to take the cable car up and down. Visitors generally report that the cliff road (Guoliang Tunnel) is the most spectacular and photogenic, though the mountain roads can cause car sickness; it is recommended to bring motion sickness medicine and take time on observation decks. In practice, avoid impulsive shopping; if you see a 'limited-time offer,' wait for three minutes before deciding. If you really want to buy souvenirs, choose a legitimate store and keep the receipt for safety.
Day 3: Guoliang Village
Gather in the morning and depart for Guoliang Village, following the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing enough time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, check in to the hotel in the evening, and replenish your energy for the next day's itinerary.
Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is Guoliang Village. Guoliang Village is hidden on a sheer cliff deep in the Taihang Mountains and is world-famous for its 'hanging road'—in the 1970s, villagers, in order to open a passage to the outside world and without any large machinery, spent more than five years to chiseling a tunnel about 1,300 meters long on the cliff, a miracle known as the 'modern-day Yu Gong.' This hanging road is now the most hardcore check-in spot in the Taihang Mountains, and walking along it offers views of the vertiginous abyss and canyon villages. Guoliang Village is also called the 'Chinese Film Village' due to being the location for many TV and movie shoots. My advice is to allow ample time when walking the hanging road, watch and take photos carefully, and pay attention to the vehicles passing by; morning or evening light is best, while midday light is rather flat. Wear non-slip shoes and do not get too close to the cliff.
Tips: The streets and alleys of the old town are convoluted and easy to get lost in, so remember the meeting time and clear landmarks. Tourists generally feedback that the cliff-side stone village is connected to the hanging road, and the filming locations have their own storytelling charm; note that lodging and meals in the village are simple, so lower your expectations for a more enjoyable experience. Depending on the situation, keep documents and wallets separately, and take photos of important documents as backups on your phone, so in case of loss you can quickly replace them without affecting your itinerary.
Day 4: Departure
Transfer to the station/airport per your departure, ending a pleasant journey.
Friendly tips: Pack the night before and keep ID, power bank and souvenirs together; allow extra time for the station/airport; bring your ID and stay with your guide, noting the meeting time and place. Traveler feedback — Return-day travelers remind: pack ID and souvenirs the night before; allow extra time. Practical note — Return-day tip: pack ID, power bank and souvenirs the night before; allow extra time—mountain roads are unpredictable.
