Jiaozuo 4-Day Tour: Scenic Area & White Horse Temple
Jiaozuo 4-day tour covering Scenic Area and White Horse Temple and Jiguan Cave. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Jiaozuo
Assemble in the morning and depart for White Horse Temple. Follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, and check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.
Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Jiaozuo attractions. Jiaozuo is part of the Yuntai Mountain World Geopark, featuring the red cliffs and green waters of Red Stone Gorge, the waterfalls and streams of Tanpu Gorge, and the sea of clouds and sunrise at Zhuyu Peak, which together represent the essence of Taihang's mountains and waters. My understanding is that when climbing, it’s important to assess your own ability. Use the cable car to save effort when possible, and those with knee issues shouldn’t force a hike—the scenery isn’t worth straining yourself.
Friendly Tips: Mountain routes have many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear anti-slip sports shoes. People with mobility difficulties are advised to use the cable car both ways. Tourists generally feedback that most visitors believe Jiaozuo is worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow your pace, follow the guide for explanations, and reserve time for the details that move you the most and the best photo spots. Considering actual conditions, the biggest risk of group tours is rushing; listening to the explanations is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than the photos. Don’t hesitate to ask the guide if something is unclear.
Day 2: White Horse Temple
Assemble in the morning and depart for Jiguan Cave, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, and check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.
Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is White Horse Temple. White Horse Temple is located in the east of Luoyang city, originally built during the Yongping period of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It was constructed to commemorate the White Horse carrying scriptures and the initial transmission of Buddhism to central China. It is honored as the "First Ancient Temple in China" and is the first government-established temple built after Buddhism was introduced to China. Within the temple, Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, the Great Buddha Hall, and the Heavenly King Hall are arranged along the central axis, with incense continuously burning among red walls and cypress trees for over 2,000 years. It is worth mentioning that the temple also has foreign-style halls donated by Myanmar, Thailand, India, and other countries, presenting a unique view of the spread and return of Buddhist culture. My understanding is to first see the main halls along the central axis, then walk around to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally visit the foreign-style halls on the sides to experience cultural fusion. Arriving early in the morning when fewer people are present allows the morning light to shine on the red walls and ancient cypresses, creating the most artistic atmosphere and avoiding the peak of tour groups.
Tips: The temple has many stone steps and thresholds, so do not step on the thresholds when crossing. When worshiping, follow the order and do not push. Visitors generally report that the foreign-style halls (Thai/Myanmar/Indian Courtyards) are very photogenic and feel more spacious than expected. Keep in mind that walking in the international temple area can be quite long, so preserve your energy. For authentic local food, head deeper into the alleys as lines at the main entrance of the scenic area are long and the food is average. For local specialties, ask for prices first and compare; local supermarkets usually offer more genuine products.
Day 3: Jiguan Cave
Gather in the morning and depart for Yuntai Mountain, follow the guide to tour the key attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; at noon, enjoy local specialty dishes, and in the evening, check into the hotel to recharge for the next day's itinerary.
Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Jiguan Cave attraction. Jiguan Cave is a karst cave in Luanchuan. Inside the cave, stalactites take on various forms, and stalagmites, stone pillars, and stone flowers transform into magnificent colors under the lights. The cave maintains a constant temperature year-round, being warm in winter and cool in summer. The attractions inside the cave are densely packed, changing with every step, and with the guide's explanation, you can understand the extraordinary geological changes over hundreds of millions of years. It complements Longtan Grand Canyon, with one cave and one gorge, forming a classic geological sightseeing route in Western Henan. My understanding is that when entering the cave, remember to follow the guide; the formation and naming of the stalactites are very interesting, and you may easily miss the highlights if you explore alone. The cave floor is slippery, and some areas are low, so wear non-slip shoes and watch your head.
Tips: Mountain roads are often slippery, especially when going downhill, so be careful to shift your weight back and slow your steps; knee pads are recommended. Visitors generally report that most consider Jiguan Cave worth a special trip. It is suggested to slow down, listen to the guide's explanations, and reserve time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. According to your actual condition, manage your energy, tackling the key highlights in the morning while slowing down in the afternoon, so you don’t exhaust yourself on the first day and have no energy for the following days.
Day 4: Return
Transfer to the departure terminal per your booked train or flight; keep travel documents and tickets in your carry-on.
