Day 1: White Horse Temple

Assemble in the morning and depart for White Horse Temple, following the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing plenty of time for photos and rest; enjoy local specialty cuisine at noon, check into the hotel in the evening to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is White Horse Temple. White Horse Temple is located in the east of Luoyang City and was originally built during the Yongping period of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It was constructed to commemorate the White Horse carrying scriptures and the initial transmission of Buddhism to central China and is revered as the "First Ancient Temple in China." It is the first state-sponsored temple built after Buddhism was introduced to China. Within the temple, Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, Great Buddha Hall, and Hall of Heavenly Kings are laid out along the central axis, with incense continuously burning among red walls and green cypresses for over 2,000 years. It is worth mentioning that the temple also houses foreign-style Buddhist halls donated by Myanmar, Thailand, India, and other countries, showcasing the unique scenery of the eastward transmission and return flow of Buddhist culture. My understanding is to first see the main hall along the central axis, then go around to Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally visit the exotic Buddhist halls on both sides to experience cultural integration. Visiting in the early morning when there are fewer people, with morning light shining on the red walls and ancient cypresses, is the most poetic and also avoids peak tour group times.

Warm Tips: The temple has many stone steps and thresholds; do not step on the thresholds when crossing. When worshiping, follow the order and do not push. Visitors generally report that the foreign-style Buddhist halls (Thai/Myanmar/Indian halls) are very photogenic, and the space is generally more open than expected. Note that the international temple area requires a lot of walking, so preserve your energy. Considering practical conditions, the best time for photos is early morning or late afternoon—soft morning light with fewer people or golden evening light is most photogenic, while the midday light is harsh and crowded, so it is better to rest at that time.

Day 2: Longmen Grottoes

Assemble in the morning and depart for Longmen Grottoes. Follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, leaving plenty of time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, check in to the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Longmen Grottoes. Longmen Grottoes was carved on the cliff faces along both banks of the Yi River in the south of Luoyang, continuously constructed since the relocation of the Northern Wei Dynasty’s Emperor Xiaowen to Luoyang, spanning the Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, Tang, and multiple other dynasties. Currently, more than 2,300 caves, over 100,000 statues, and more than 2,800 inscriptions remain. The most astonishing feature is the Vairocana Buddha of Fengxian Temple, over seventeen meters tall, with a full face and compassionate eyes, said to be modeled after Empress Wu Zetian, representing the pinnacle of Tang Dynasty stone carving art. Together with the Dunhuang Mogao Caves and Datong Yungang Grottoes, it is one of China’s three major grottoes and a World Cultural Heritage site. During the visit, walk south along the Yi River from the Western Hills Grottoes; each of the Binyang Three Caves, Ten Thousand Buddha Cave, and Lotus Cave offers unique highlights. Crossing the bridge to the East Hills Worship Terrace provides a panoramic view. My understanding is to first visit the main caves of the Western Hills in the morning, when there are fewer people, to appreciate the Buddha statue, and then go to the East Hills in the afternoon for a distant view—this provides the best lighting and angles for photos; walking along both banks of the Yi River requires backtracking, so a pair of comfortable shoes saves considerable effort.

Tips: Many grottoes are built on cliffs. Keep a distance from the cliffs and hold onto railings while viewing, and take care of the elderly and children. Visitor feedback generally indicates that most people find the Vairocana Buddha the most impressive, the lighting at sunset in the Western Hills is best for photos; walking along both banks of the Yi River requires backtracking, so wearing comfortable shoes and reserving half a day is recommended. Considering actual conditions, dehydration is the biggest risk on long trips—carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently; on the first night at a plateau or mountain area, avoid taking long showers or baths to allow your body some time to acclimate.

Day 3: Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden

Gather in the morning and depart for Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, follow the guide to visit core attractions, and allow ample time for photos and rest; Enjoy local specialties at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, located at Kaifeng. It is a Song Culture Theme Park based on Zhang Zeduan's "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" from the Northern Song Dynasty. It faithfully recreates the Hongqiao, Bian River, streets, and restaurants from the painting, bringing the bustling bustling streets of Bianliang, Tokyo. The park hosts live performances and folk parades all day long. The most famous is the nighttime water live show "The Great Song · Dreams of Dongjing," which uses light and shadow to recreate the grandeur of the Northern Song capital; During the day, you can watch immersive folk performances such as the opening ceremony, Judge Bao's welcoming guests, and Mr. Wang's marriage proposal. This is also a paradise for Hanfu lovers. Dressed in Song-style Hanfu and walking between the Hongqiao and Bian Rivers, every snapshot is a classical-style masterpiece. My understanding is that you should get a performance schedule before entering, schedule must-see shows and night shows, and then enjoy food and stroll as you like; Exploring the city during the day is the most immersive experience, while night shows are a visual feast, worth seeing if your budget allows.

Friendly reminder: Popular attractions have long queues. Get a map and performance schedule before entering to prioritize must-see attractions. Visitors generally say that daytime strolling in the city feels most immersive, and the night show "The Song Dynasty: Tokyo Dreams" has mixed reviews; Reminder: Show tickets tend to be expensive, so choose according to your budget. Based on actual circumstances, be sure to be punctual. Gather five to ten minutes early—better to wait for a car than for a car—don't make everyone wait for you.
