Day 1: Erlitou

Today's theme is Erlitou. Avoid peak crowds by entering the park during off-peak hours and follow the recommended route for an in-depth exploration; have a nearby local-style lunch at noon, enjoy free activities in the afternoon or join the guide for additional visits, and stay at a hotel in the evening to rest.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Erlitou attractions. The Erlitou site is located in Luoyang Yanshi and is acclaimed by scholars as 'the earliest China.' It is a large urban site from the middle and late Xia Dynasty and has yielded important artifacts such as turquoise dragon-shaped objects, bronze jue (wine cups), and bronze ding (tripod cauldrons), revealing the face of the first royal capital of the Huaxia. The turquoise dragon-shaped object is inlaid with more than 2,000 pieces of turquoise and is praised as the 'First Dragon of Huaxia,' providing key evidence of dragon worship in China. The Erlitou Site Museum presents the site with an archaeological sense, making it an indispensable stop for studying the origins of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that visiting after gaining knowledge of the academic disputes regarding the 'Xia Capital' and then viewing the exhibits will lead to deeper understanding; the museum’s exhibitions are meticulously arranged and worth taking time to appreciate.

Friendly Tips: The climbing sections have many steps and steep slopes; be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with mobility issues are recommended to use the cable car. Visitors generally report that most consider Erlitou worth a special trip. It is advisable to slow down, follow the guide’s explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Considering the actual situation, for the best photos, go early or late—there are fewer people and softer light in the morning, and a golden glow at dusk. Noon light is harsh and crowded, so it is better used for resting.

Day 2: Chongdugou

Morning tour, walk along the Jinji River and Dicuì River to see bamboo forests and waterfalls; at noon, taste wild vegetables and farmhouse meals; in the afternoon, stroll through villages in western Henan, enjoying the coolness typical of Jiangnan water towns.

Scenic spot introduction: This stop is Chongdugou, located in Luanchuan, celebrated for its tens of thousands of acres of bamboo forests, cascading waterfalls, and western Henan farming culture. It is a rare Jiangnan water-town-style summer resort in Henan. The scenic area is divided into two zones, Jinji River and Dicuì River. Jinji River is famous for its clusters of waterfalls, with splashing water and refreshing coolness. Dicuì River, on the other hand, features continuous bamboo forests, providing a lush green view when strolling through. Here, visitors can stay in farmhouse accommodations, taste wild vegetables, and experience authentic western Henan mountain village life. The pace is leisurely, especially suitable for family slow travel and summer vacations. My understanding is to slow down the pace and not rush through the sights—walking in the bamboo forest and sitting by the creek is the proper way to enjoy Chongdugou; visiting in summer is the most comfortable, so cool that you won’t want to leave.

Tips: The canyon trails are near water and cliffs. Do not climb over railings or play in dangerous areas, and watch children closely. Visitors generally report that most believe Chongdugou is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide’s explanation, and leave time for the details that touch you most and the best photo spots. In practical terms, on long trips, dehydration is the biggest risk, so carry a water cup and drink small amounts frequently; on the first night at high altitudes or mountainous areas, avoid washing hair or bathing for too long to give your body some time to adjust.

Day 3: Laojun Mountain

Early in the morning, take the two-section cable car to reach the Golden Summit, check in at the temple cluster, and enjoy the sea of clouds and sunrise; in the afternoon, slowly descend along the Ten-Mile Screen, changing scenery step by step, and return in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is the Golden Summit. The Golden Summit is located in Luanchuan County, the main peak of the Funiu Mountains, and a famous Taoist mountain, traditionally believed to be the retreat and cultivation site of Laozi, the founder of Taoism. The temple cluster on the Golden Summit stands over 2,000 meters above sea level, with golden-tiled temples, red walls, and rolling seas of clouds, earning the reputation of "A magnificent feast in the human world, a glimpse of the peak beauty on earth." The Ten-Mile Screen is the essence of the whole journey, a high-altitude walkway suspended along the cliff, offering changing views at every step and capturing the peaks, clouds, and sunrise in full view. Visitors can take the two-section cable car up the mountain. On clear days, you can witness the clouds and sunrise from the top, while in winter, it is a popular spot in the Central Plains for snow viewing. My understanding is that it is essential to take the cable car early in the morning to secure the best lighting at the Golden Summit and Ten-Mile Screen; the summit is windy and cold, so a windbreaker and thermos are a must, and if you are timid, avoid the glass observation deck.

Tips: The mountain paths are often slippery, especially downhill, so lean your weight backward and slow your pace; knee pads are recommended. Visitors generally agree that the clouds and sunrise at the Golden Summit are the main highlights, and many stay on the summit overnight to catch dawn. Note that the temperature difference on the summit is large and the cable car lines can be long, so during peak season, go early. Be punctual according to the actual situation, arrive five to ten minutes early for gatherings, and remember that it’s better for people to wait for the vehicle than for the vehicle to wait for people, so don’t make everyone wait for you.
