Day 1: Longmen Grottoes

In the morning, head to Longmen Grottoes, follow the Yihe Trail from the Xishan Grottoes to closely admire the Fengxian Temple Vairocana Buddha, then cross the bridge to the Dongshan Buddha Platform for a panoramic view; At noon, enjoy Luoyang water feast, visit Xiangshan Temple and Baiyuan in the afternoon, and return to the hotel in the evening.

Attraction introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Longmen Grottoes, carved into the cliffs on both banks of the Yi River south of Luoyang city. Since Emperor Xiaowen of Northern Wei moved the capital to Luoyang, construction has continued through Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, Tang, and other dynasties. There are over 2,300 cave niches, over 100,000 statues, and more than 2,800 inscriptions and inscriptions preserved. The most impressive is the Vairocana Buddha at Fengxian Temple, standing over 17 meters tall, with a plump face and benevolent eyes. Legend has it that it was carved after Wu Zetian's likeness, marking the pinnacle of Tang dynasty stone carving art. Along with Dunhuang Mogao Caves and Datong Yungang, it is one of China's three great grottoes and a World Cultural Heritage site. When touring, head south along the Yi River trail from the Xishan Grottoes, where Binyang Three Caves, Ten Thousand Buddha Caves, and Lotus Cave each have highlights. Cross the bridge to the Dongshan Buddha Worship Platform for a panoramic view. My understanding is that in the morning, first visit the main cave of Xishan and admire the Big Buddha while there are fewer people; in the afternoon, go to the Dongshan Viewing Platform for the best lighting and angle; If you need to walk backward along both banks of the Yi River, a pair of comfortable shoes can save you a lot of effort.

Friendly reminder: Visiting the grottoes mainly involves walking and stairs. It is recommended to wear comfortable non-slip shoes and travel lightly. Watch your footing along both banks of the Yi River. Visitors generally report that most find the Vairocana Buddha the most breathtaking, and the best sunlight at sunset on the western hills; If you need to walk back along both banks of the Yi River, wearing comfortable shoes and allowing half a day in advance is recommended. Considering actual conditions, mountain weather can change quickly; a windproof jacket is more practical than anything; Always choose non-slip and comfortable shoes; avoid taking a few photos to avoid twisting your ankle.

Day 2: Laojun Mountain

Early morning climb Laojun Mountain, first take the two-level cable car to the Golden Summit, check in at the Taoist temple cluster and the sea of clouds at sunrise; In the afternoon, slowly descend along the Ten-Mile Painted Screen, changing views at every step, returning in the evening.

Attraction introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Laojun Mountain, located in Luanchuan County Luoyang. It is the main peak of Funiu Mountain and a famous Taoist mountain, said to be the place where Laozi, the founder of Taoism, retired for cultivation. The Golden Summit Daoist temple cluster stands atop a peak over 2,000 meters above sea level. Its golden tiles and red walls and surging sea of clouds are renowned as "a spectacular feast on earth and a glimpse of the flourishing world." The Ten-Mile Painted Screen is the highlight of the entire trip. A high-altitude plank road suspended above a sheer cliff changes views with every step, offering panoramic views of peaks, forests, sea of clouds, and sunrises. You can take a two-level cable car up the mountain; on sunny days, you can watch the sea of clouds and sunrise from the summit. In winter, it is a highly popular snow-viewing spot in the Central Plains. My understanding is: be sure to take the cable car up the mountain early to seize the golden summit and the beautiful scenery of the Ten-Mile Painting Screen; At the summit, the wind is strong and the temperature low; a windbreaker and thermos bottle are standard, and the glass observation deck is a must-have.

Friendly reminder: The mountain area has large temperature differences between morning and evening, and the wind at the summit is strong, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layer are very necessary. Visitors generally report that the Golden Summit sea of clouds and sunrise are recognized as the main highlights, and many people stay at the summit waiting for dawn; Reminder: The large temperature difference at the summit and long cable car queues are essential, so be sure to arrive early during peak season. Based on actual conditions, don't shop impulsively; if you see a "limited-time offer," take a calm wait for three minutes; If you really want to bring souvenirs, make sure to buy a reputable store and keep your receipts for peace of mind.

Day 3: Longtan Grand Canyon

Today's Longtan Grand Canyon waterside trip focuses on Liubutan and Yixiantian to experience the "canyon's finest" red rock landforms; rest in the afternoon and check in at night.

Attraction introduction: This stop is Longtan Grand Canyon. Located in Xin'an, it is a canyon famous for its Hongyan Valley and water flowing upward, earning it the reputation of a "canyon masterpiece" and an "ancient marine natural museum." Trails like Liubutan and Yixiantian are highly water-friendly, with the Hongyan cliffs and clear waters complementing each other. In summer, it is especially cool and refreshing, making it a family waterside destination not far from Luoyang city. The canyon stretches for several kilometers, with waterfalls, deep pools, and strange rocks along the way, offering a new view at every step. My understanding is that wearing a pair of non-slip river trekking shoes or sneakers is ideal, and valuables like phones should be waterproofed; Families with children should slow down the pace and choose gentle boardwalks without rushing to finish the entire route.

Friendly reminder: Signal in the canyon may be poor. Arrange a meeting point with the guide in advance and avoid going alone. Visitors generally report that Longtan Grand Canyon is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down and follow the guide to listen to the explanation, saving time for the most impressive details and the best camera angles. Depending on the situation, separate documents and wallets; take photos of important documents and keep them on your phone for backup. If lost, you can quickly reissue them without delaying your trip.

Day 4: White Horse Temple

Morning tour White Horse Temple, from the mountain gate and the Hall of Heavenly Kings to the Great Buddha Hall, carefully explore along the central axis, then visit Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard; At noon, try local cuisine; in the afternoon, visit Burmese and Indian-style Buddhist temples to experience the exotic charm of a thousand-year-old temple.

Attraction introduction: One highlight of the itinerary is White Horse Temple, located east of Luoyang city. It was first built during the Yongping era of the Eastern Han Dynasty to commemorate the White Horse Carrying Scriptures and the early introduction of Buddhism to the Central Plains. It is honored as "China's First Ancient Temple" and the first government-run temple built after Buddhism was introduced to China. Inside the temple, the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, the Great Buddha Hall, and the Heavenly King Hall are arranged along the central axis, with red walls and green cypress trees where incense offerings have continued for over two thousand years. It is worth mentioning that the temple also features exotic-style Buddhist halls donated by countries such as Myanmar, Thailand, and India, showcasing the unique landscape of Buddhist culture flowing eastward and backward. My understanding is that when entering the temple, first see the main hall along the central axis, then circle around to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally visit the foreign Buddhist halls on both sides to experience cultural fusion; Come early in the morning when there are fewer people; the sunlight shining on the red walls and ancient cypress trees creates the most poetic atmosphere, and you can also avoid the peak of tour groups.

Friendly reminder: Please keep quiet and dress neatly when entering the temple. Generally, no photography or touching ritual objects inside the hall—do as you wish. Visitors generally report that the Exotic-style Buddhist halls (Thai/Burmese/Seal Hall) have a high rate of photo shoots, and they generally feel it's more spacious than expected. Reminder: The international temple area is quite far to walk around, so leave some legroom. Depending on your situation, bring some change and small packs of snacks. These will be useful when signal is poor or you need a quick refill at the scenic spot. Don't wait until you're hungry.
