Day 1: Shaolin Temple

Morning visit: see the Changzhu Monastery and Pagoda Forest, watching the Shaolin martial arts performance according to the session schedule; at noon, try the local cuisine of Dengfeng. In the afternoon, you can conveniently visit Songyang Academy or Chuzu Temple. In one day, you can understand Zen and martial arts culture.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes several attractions. The Changzhu Monastery is located at the foot of Wuru Peak on Mount Shaoshi in Dengfeng. It was founded in the 19th year of the Northern Wei Taihe period (AD 495). It is both the ancestral temple of Zen Buddhism and the birthplace of Shaolin martial arts, with a history of over 1,500 years. The core highlights are concentrated in three places: the Changzhu Monastery follows the central axis with the mountain gate, Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, Sutra Pavilion, and Lixue Pavilion, along which halls and ancient steles are arranged; the Pagoda Forest is the largest ancient pagoda complex remaining in China, with over 200 brick and stone tomb pagodas from the Tang, Song to Qing dynasties, each corresponding to a high-ranking monk; the Dharma Cave on Wuru Peak is said to be where Bodhidharma meditated facing the wall for nine years. The martial arts hall performs Shaolin martial arts daily at set times, with punches, weapons, and hard qigong showing the real skills. My understanding is to first follow the guide along the central axis for a walkthrough and then explore in detail freely; please remain quiet in the Pagoda Forest and walk around the pagodas; for the martial arts performance, enter 15 minutes early to get a good seat.

Tips: There are many incense stalls around the temple, so purchase according to need and consume reasonably. Visitors generally find the martial arts performance most popular among families with children, and the Pagoda Forest and Chuzu Temple are often overlooked when visiting along the route. Note that the commercial atmosphere in the scenic area is obvious; check prices for vegetarian meals and nearby consumables in advance. Based on the actual situation, when taking photos, do not just focus on getting good shots; pay attention to the ground and surroundings. Make sure to stand firmly on observation decks and walkways edges.

Day 2: Free activities

Early in the morning, enter Guoliang Village and take advantage of the morning light to walk along the cliffside highway, experiencing the shock of tunnels carved into the cliff; in the afternoon, enjoy free activities, you can go deep into Wanxian Mountain Danfengou, and return in the evening.

Friendly reminder: The free activity time is suitable for catching up on sleep or strolling slowly. It is recommended to rest in the morning, spend the afternoon exploring and eating according to your interests, and avoid staying out too late in the evening to not affect the next day's schedule. Visitors generally feedback that most people use the free day to sleep in naturally, then spend time exploring, eating, and taking extra photos, enjoying a very relaxed pace. Considering the actual situation, don't shop impulsively—if you see a "limited-time offer," take three minutes to calm down first; if you really want to buy souvenirs, choose official stores and keep receipts for peace of mind.
