Day 1: Baiyun Mountain

In the morning, take a ride up to Baiyun Mountain and climb Yuhuang Peak to see the sea of clouds; have a simple lunch on the mountaintop; in the afternoon, visit the Nine-Dragon Waterfall and the High Mountain Peony Garden, breathe in the forest oxygen bar, and descend in the evening to check in.

Scenic spot introduction: This stop is Baiyun Mountain. Baiyun Mountain is located in the heart of Funiu Mountains in Song County. From Yuhuang Peak, you can enjoy the sunrise over the sea of clouds. With high forest coverage and abundant negative oxygen ions, it is a natural oxygen bar. Within the scenic area, the Nine-Dragon Waterfall and the High Mountain Peony Garden each have their own characteristics. It's a rare high-altitude resort destination for summer escapes and autumn leaf viewing. You can connect the various points via cable car or sightseeing shuttle. The mountaintop has broad views, shrouded in mist, like a fairyland. From my perspective, visiting in summer for a cool retreat is most worthwhile, as the cool mountain air sharply contrasts with the scorching city heat. Getting up early to climb Yuhuang Peak for the sunrise over the sea of clouds requires a bit of luck, but even if you don't see the sunrise, the scenery in the morning fog is beautiful enough.

Tips: There are many slippery sections on the mountain road; when going downhill, be particularly careful to shift your center of gravity back and slow your steps. It's advisable to bring a knee pad. Most visitors generally feel that Baiyun Mountain is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, follow the tour guide’s explanations, and save time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Considering the actual situation, the biggest concern on long trips is dehydration, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently. On the first night at high altitudes or in mountainous areas, avoid washing your hair or taking long baths to give your body some time to adjust.

Day 2: Longmen Grottoes

Arrive early in the morning, take advantage of the fewer crowds to first visit the Bingyang Three Caves and Lotus Cave, then climb Fengxian Temple to pay respects to the Great Buddha; have a nearby lunch at noon, in the afternoon visit Dongshan Grottoes and Xiangshan Temple, and at sunset take photos by the Yi River, ending a fulfilling day.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is the Longmen Grottoes. Longmen Grottoes was carved on the cliffs along both sides of the Yi River in the south of Luoyang city. Construction began after Emperor Xiaowen of Northern Wei moved the capital to Luoyang and continued through multiple dynasties including Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, and Tang. Currently, there are more than 2,300 cave niches, over 100,000 statues, and more than 2,800 inscriptions. The most spectacular is the Vairocana Buddha at Fengxian Temple, which is over seventeen meters tall, with a full face and compassionate eyes, said to be modeled after Empress Wu Zetian's appearance, representing the pinnacle of Tang dynasty stone carving art. Together with Dunhuang Mogao Caves and Datong Yungang, it is considered one of China's three major grottoes and a World Cultural Heritage site. During the visit, start from the West Mountain Grottoes along the Yi River walkway heading south; the Bingyang Three Caves, Wanfo Cave, and Lotus Cave each have interesting features, and crossing the bridge to the East Mountain Worship Terrace provides a full view. My understanding is to view the main West Mountain grottoes in the morning, appreciating the Great Buddha while the crowds are small, and in the afternoon go to the East Mountain terrace to enjoy distant views, as the light and angles are best for photos; walking along both sides of the Yi River requires retracing your steps, so a comfortable pair of shoes will save a lot of effort.

Tips: Visiting the grottoes mainly involves walking and stairs, so it is recommended to wear non-slip comfortable shoes and travel light. Be mindful of your footing along both sides of the Yi River. Visitors generally report that the Vairocana Buddha is the most impressive, sunset at West Mountain offers the best photo lighting, and walking along both sides of the Yi River requires retracing your steps, so comfortable shoes and half a day are recommended. Based on actual conditions, be punctual; arrive five to ten minutes early for assembly, it’s better for people to wait for the car than for the car to wait for people, don’t make everyone wait for you.

Day 3: Chongdugou

Today's summer escape trip follows a relaxed pace, focusing on the vast bamboo forests and cascading waterfalls; the afternoon is free for your own arrangements, and in the evening, you will stay at a farmhouse to rest.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is Chongdugou, located in Luanchuan. It is known for its extensive bamboo forests, waterfalls, and streams, as well as the farming culture of western Henan. It is one of the few 'Jiangnan water town' style summer retreat destinations in the area. The scenic area is divided into two sections: Jinji River and Dicui River. Jinji River is famous for its waterfalls, with splashing water that is refreshing and pleasant; Dicui River features continuous bamboo forests, creating a sea of greenery as you stroll through. Here, you can stay at farmhouses, taste wild mountain vegetables, and experience authentic rural life in western Henan. The pace is slow, making it particularly suitable for family leisure trips and summer vacations. My understanding is to slow down and not rush through the sights—walking in the bamboo forest and sitting by the stream is the right way to enjoy Chongdugou. Summer is the most comfortable season to visit, cool enough that you won't want to leave.

Tips: The canyon trails are beside water and cliffs, so do not cross the guardrails or play in dangerous areas. Keep a close eye on accompanying children. Visitors generally report that most think Chongdugou is worth a dedicated trip. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. In practice, when taking photos, don’t focus only on the shot; pay attention to your footing and surroundings. Hold onto the railings securely when on viewing platforms and trail edges.

The Laojun Mountain ticket holds for two days, so this route splits the climb in half: the cliff walkway on the first afternoon, the summit and its cloud early the next morning. Between them, a bamboo valley and a limestone cave that sits at eighteen degrees when the mountain air turns cold.
