Day 1: Free activities

Early in the morning, enter Longtan Grand Canyon and take a leisurely stroll along the creek trail, which is especially refreshing in summer; in the afternoon, enjoy free activities, and you can take additional photos of the narrow sky gap, then return in the evening.

Warm tips: There is no unified schedule on the free activity day, so note the hotel location and meeting time before going out, make sure your phone is fully charged, and bring a power bank. Visitors generally report that most people use the free activity day to sleep in, then go out to explore, eat, and take more photos, making for a very relaxed time. Considering practical situations, dehydration is the biggest risk on long trips, so carry a water bottle and take small sips frequently; on the first night at high altitudes or mountainous areas, avoid washing your hair or taking long baths to give your body some time to adapt.

Meals: Meals on your own

Day 2: White Horse Temple

Today's Buddhist pilgrimage journey involved following the tour guide from Qiyun Pagoda to the Sutra Treasury Pavilion, listening to explanations along the way, and understanding the two thousand years of incense offerings of China's oldest temple; in the afternoon, we strolled around the temple, and in the evening, we rested.

Attraction Introduction: One highlight arranged in the itinerary is White Horse Temple, which is located in the eastern part of Luoyang city. It was first built during the Yongping period of the Eastern Han Dynasty to commemorate the White Horse carrying scriptures and the initial spread of Buddhism in the Central Plains. It is revered as "China's first ancient temple" and is the first government-established temple built after Buddhism was introduced to China. Inside the temple, the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, the Great Buddha Hall, and the Hall of Heavenly Kings are laid out along the central axis, with red walls and green cypresses, maintaining more than two thousand years of continuous incense offerings. It is worth mentioning that the temple also has exotically styled Buddhist halls donated by Myanmar, Thailand, India, and other countries, presenting a unique landscape of Buddhist culture spreading eastward and returning westward. My understanding is that one should first visit the main hall along the central axis, then circle to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally go to the exotic Buddhist halls on the sides to experience cultural integration; visiting in the early morning when there are fewer people is the most picturesque, with morning light shining on the red walls and ancient cypresses, and it also helps avoid peak tour group crowds.

Tips: The temple has many stone steps and thresholds; do not step on the thresholds. When worshiping, follow the order and do not push. Visitors generally feedback that the exotically styled Buddhist halls (Thai/Myanmar/Indian courtyards) are highly photogenic and feel more spacious than expected; note that the international temple area requires a fair amount of walking, so save some energy. Based on actual circumstances, avoid impulsive shopping; if you see a "limited-time offer," take three minutes to calm down first. If you really want to buy souvenirs, make sure to choose a reputable shop and keep the receipt for peace of mind.
