Day 1: Erlitou

Today the theme is Erlitou. Avoid peak crowds by entering the park at off-peak times and follow the recommended route for an in-depth visit; have local cuisine nearby for lunch, enjoy free activities in the afternoon or join the guide for additional touring, and rest at the hotel in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Erlitou attractions. The Erlitou site is located in Luoyang Yanshi and is acclaimed by scholars as 'the earliest China.' It is a large urban site from the middle and late Xia Dynasty and has yielded significant artifacts such as turquoise dragon-shaped objects, bronze jue (wine cups), and bronze ding (tripod cauldrons), revealing the face of the first royal capital of the Huaxia. The turquoise dragon-shaped object is inlaid with more than 2,000 pieces of turquoise and is praised as the 'First Dragon of Huaxia,' providing important evidence of dragon worship in China. The Erlitou Site Museum presents the site with an archaeological sense of presence and is an essential stop for researching the origins of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that visiting with prior knowledge of the academic debates about the 'Xia capital' and then viewing the exhibits will offer deeper insight; the museum’s exhibitions are meticulously arranged and worth taking your time to appreciate.

Tips: The climbing sections have many steps and steep slopes; be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with mobility issues are advised to use the cable car. Visitors generally report that most consider Erlitou worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide’s explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Practically, for authentic local food, head deeper into the alleys; queues at the main entrance are long and the taste is average. Always ask for prices and compare before buying local specialties; local supermarkets often have more genuine products.

Day 2: Wangcheng Park

In the morning, gather and depart for Wangcheng Park. Follow the main route with the tour guide, covering all the key highlights, with sufficient time reserved for photography and rest; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, continue exploring in the afternoon, and check into a hotel in the evening to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Sightseeing introduction: A major highlight arranged in the itinerary is Wangcheng Park. Wangcheng Park is located in Luoyang, and it is named because it sits on the ruins of the Eastern Zhou royal city. It has been one of the main venues for the China Luoyang Peony Cultural Festival over the years and is also the city park most familiar to the citizens of Luoyang. Every April, famous peonies such as Yao Huang, Wei Zi, and Zhao Fen bloom competitively, displaying a spectacular array of colors. The park also retains the ruins of the Zhou royal city and a zoo, combining historical depth with leisure functions, making it a classic spot for tourists to check out the 'Peony Flower City.' My understanding is that if you visit during the peony season (April), you must consider this a must-see spot. Early in the morning, there are fewer people, and the dew-covered peonies are at their most delicate; outside the flower season, it is more suitable for a leisurely stroll.

Tips: Food and beverage prices in the park are relatively high, so it is advisable to bring water and small snacks, and be mindful of your personal belongings. Tourists generally report that most visitors believe Wangcheng Park is worth visiting specifically. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide for explanations, and save time for the details that impress you most and the best photography locations. Depending on your circumstances, allocate your energy carefully: prioritize the major highlights in the morning when you are energetic, and slow down in the afternoon, so as not to exhaust yourself on the first day and feel drained for the remaining days.

Day 3: White Horse Temple

Arrive early in the morning to quietly stroll among the red walls and green cypresses in the morning light, focusing on visiting Qiyun Pagoda and the two exotic Buddhist halls; in the afternoon, enjoy free activities or retake photos along the central axis, and return to the hotel in the evening.

Attraction introduction: One of the highlights arranged in the itinerary is White Horse Temple. White Horse Temple is located in the east of Luoyang city. It was first built during the Yongping period of the Eastern Han Dynasty to commemorate the White Horse carrying scriptures and the initial spread of Buddhism in the Central Plains. It is revered as the 'First Ancient Temple in China' and is the first government-built temple after Buddhism was introduced to China. Inside the temple, the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, the Great Buddha Hall, and the Hall of Heavenly Kings are laid out along the central axis, with incense burning continuously among the red walls and green cypresses for more than 2,000 years. Notably, the temple also has exotically styled Buddhist halls donated by Myanmar, Thailand, India, and other countries, presenting a unique landscape of Buddhist culture spreading eastward and returning westward. My understanding is that one should first visit the main hall along the central axis, then circle to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally go to the exotic Buddhist halls on the sides to experience cultural integration; come early in the morning when there are fewer people, as the morning light on the red walls and ancient cypresses is most picturesque, and it also helps avoid the peak of tourist groups.

Tips: There are many incense stalls around the temple; purchase incense as needed and consume rationally. Visitors generally report that the exotic-style Buddhist halls (Thai/Myanmar/Indian courtyards) are photogenic, and they find the spaces more open than expected; note that walking to the international temple area is relatively far, so save some energy. According to the actual situation, respect local customs, dress appropriately when entering religious sites, and do not point casually; a simple greeting can bring goodwill.
