Day 1: Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden

Arrive in the morning, walk through the street market restored according to 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival,' watch folk performances and situational dramas; have Bianliang snacks at noon, and in the afternoon continue touring the garden or enjoy a night tour on the Song Capital Imperial River to experience the prosperity of Northern Song Bianjing.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden is located at Kaifeng, a Song culture theme park built based on Zhang Zeduan's 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival' of the Northern Song. The Rainbow Bridge, Bian River, street market, and taverns in the painting are recreated, reproducing the bustling scenes of Tokyo Bianliang. The park offers live performances and folk parades all day; the most famous is the night-time water performance 'The Great Song: Dreaming of Tokyo,' which uses light and shadow to recreate the grandeur of the Northern Song capital. During the day, visitors can watch the opening ceremony, Bao Gong welcoming guests, and Wang Yuanwai's matchmaking, among other immersive folk performances. This is also a paradise for Hanfu enthusiasts; wearing a Song-style Hanfu and walking between Rainbow Bridge and the Bian River makes for a beautiful ancient-style photo. My understanding is that upon entering the park, you should first get the performance schedule, plan the must-see shows and night-time events, then stroll and eat casually; visiting the street market during the day is the most immersive, while the night performance is a visual and auditory feast. If your budget allows, it is worth watching.

Tips: Popular attractions in the park have long queues, so upon entering, get a map and performance schedule, and prioritize the must-try activities. Visitors generally feel that the street market during the day is the most immersive, while night performance 'The Great Song: Dreaming of Tokyo' receives mixed reviews; note that tickets for performances are relatively expensive, so plan according to your budget. Depending on your actual situation, reserve some energy: do the highlights in the morning when you're fresh, slow down in the afternoon, and don't exhaust yourself on the first day, or you'll be too tired for the following days.

Day 2: Yin Ruins

Start early at Yin Ruins, first visit the palace area and the chariot and horse pits, then explore the royal tomb area, and follow the guide to understand the beginning of recorded history; in the afternoon, visit the new museum, and return in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Yin Ruins attractions. Yin Ruins is the late Shang Dynasty capital ruin, located in Anyang. It is the hometown of oracle bones and also the excavation site of the Houmuwu Ding (originally named Simuwu Ding), which was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2006. This was the capital city after King Pan Geng moved the Shang Dynasty to Yin, lasting more than 270 years. The palace and ancestral temple ruins, royal tomb area, and chariot and horse pits are clearly visible. Oracle bones were first discovered here, tracing Chinese recorded history back to the Shang Dynasty. The new Yin Ruins Museum systematically displays bronze ware, jade ware, oracle bones, and other cultural relics, serving as the most intuitive classroom to understand Shang civilization. My understanding is, first visit the palace and ancestral temple ruins and the chariot and horse pits to build a spatial concept, then go to the museum to examine the artifacts in detail. Connecting these two lines makes the experience complete; oracle bones and large bronzes are the essence, and following the guide is far better than just skimming through.

Tips: There is a large temperature difference in the mountains between morning and evening, and strong winds at the top make a windproof jacket and warm inner layers necessary. General feedback from visitors is that oracle bones and the Simuwu Ding make history come alive. Visitors say the new museum is more worthwhile than the open-air ruins; it is advised to combine viewing with the guide explanations to fully understand. Respect local customs, dress properly when entering religious sites, do not point around casually, and a simple greeting can bring kind responses.

Day 3: Red Flag Canal

Today's red tour involves following the guide to visit the Youth Cave and the Divider Garden, understanding the heroic feats of the 1960s; in the afternoon, you can explore the surrounding area, and in the evening, rest.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights of the itinerary is Red Flag Canal. Red Flag Canal is an 'artificial river in the sky' carved by the people of Linzhou on the cliffs of the Taihang Mountains in the 1960s. It spans over 1,500 kilometers in total, with 1,250 mountain peaks leveled, more than 150 aqueducts built, and over 200 tunnels excavated, taking nearly ten years to complete. It stands as a monument to the Chinese nation’s spirit of self-improvement. The Youth Cave is the most dangerous section of the entire route, excavated on sheer cliffs by 300 young volunteers; the Divider Garden and Red Flag Canal Memorial Hall fully tell the arduous story of the canal’s construction. This place combines red education with the grandeur of the Taihang Mountains and is now also a breathtaking cultural attraction. My understanding is that visiting the memorial hall first to learn the background of the canal, followed by the Youth Cave, allows one to truly grasp the significance of this canal; when walking along the canal, go at your own pace, wear anti-slip shoes, and watch your step.

Kind Reminder: Mountain paths are often slippery, especially downhill; pay attention to shifting your center of gravity back and slowing your steps. Knee pads are recommended. Visitors generally feel that the 'artificial river in the sky' has a strong symbolic significance, resonating more with middle-aged visitors; it is worth listening to the explanation at the exhibition hall to understand that period of history. Considering the actual situation, the biggest risk of a group tour is just rushing through sites; the essence is in the explanations. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than photos, so ask the guide if you don’t understand something.
