Day 1: Henan Museum

Entering early in the morning, follow the "Early China" main line and carefully view each hall, focusing on reading the stories behind the national treasures; in the afternoon, you have free time to take additional photos or explore the surrounding area.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights arranged in the itinerary is Henan Museum. Henan Museum is the landmark of Central Plains civilization, with a collection of over 170,000 cultural relics, systematically presenting "Early China" around the theme of "the vast China, establishing the capital in the center." Among the treasures, the Jiahu bone flute is the earliest playable instrument discovered so far, rewriting the history of Chinese music; the Duling Fangding and the cloud-patterned bronze ritual vessel are pinnacle works of Shang and Zhou dynasty bronze casting; the Fu Hao Owl-shaped Zun has a majestic shape, telling the legendary story of Fu Hao, wife of Shang King Wu Ding; in addition, there are other national treasures such as the lotus and crane square pot and Emperor Wu Zetian's gold slips. It is recommended to follow a guide or rent an audio guide; two hours is enough to overview the main line of Chinese civilization. My suggestion is to first head straight to several key treasures for a thrill, then systematically follow the chronological line to efficiently grasp the main storyline; it is normal for there to be many people in front of the national treasure display cases, so knowing the locations of the key treasures in advance will save time by going straight to the highlights.

Tips: The museum is quite large, so it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and take a break in the rest areas if needed. Visitors generally feedback that most think Henan Museum is worth a special visit, so it is suggested to slow down, listen to the guide, and leave time for the details that touch you most and the best photo spots. Considering actual conditions, distribute your energy wisely: tackle the main highlights in the morning when your energy is high and slow down in the afternoon; don’t exhaust yourself on the first day, or you will have no energy for the following days.

Day 2: Shaolin Temple

Today's trip: From the mountain gate to the Sutra Library, carefully observe along the way, focusing on the solemnity of the Pagoda Forest and the impact of the martial arts performance; in the afternoon, leisurely visit the surrounding area, and check into the hotel in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes 1 attraction, located at the foot of Wuru Peak of Mount Shaoshi in Dengfeng. It was first built in the 19th year of the Taihe era of the Northern Wei Dynasty (495 AD). It is both the ancestral home of Chan Buddhism and the origin of Shaolin martial arts, with a history of over 1,500 years. The main highlights are concentrated in three areas: The Permanent Resident Courtyard along the central axis consists of the Mountain Gate, Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, Sutra Library, and Lixue Pavilion; the halls and ancient steles are arranged along the path. The Pagoda Forest is the largest existing ancient pagoda complex in China, with over 200 brick and stone tomb pagodas from the Tang and Song dynasties to the Qing dynasty, each corresponding to a distinguished monk. The Dharma Cave on Wuru Peak is traditionally believed to be the place where Bodhidharma meditated facing the wall for nine years. The Martial Arts Hall performs Shaolin martial arts daily at fixed times, showcasing true skills in fist techniques, weapons, and hard qigong. In my understanding, first follow the guide to walk the central axis, then explore freely in detail; please maintain quiet when visiting the Pagoda Forest and walk around the pagodas; for the martial arts performance, arrive 15 minutes early to secure a good seat.

Tips: Please stay quiet and dress neatly when entering the temple; generally, photography and touching religious instruments inside the halls are not allowed, and offerings can be made voluntarily. Visitors generally report that the martial arts performance is most popular with families, while the Pagoda Forest and the Ancestral Temple are often overlooked. Note that the attraction is relatively commercialized; ask prices in advance for vegetarian meals and surrounding consumption. In practice, respect local customs, dress appropriately in religious places, and do not point things out casually; a simple greeting can be met with goodwill.

Day 3: Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden

Arrive in the morning, walk through the streets restored according to 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival,' watch folk performances and situational shows; try Bianliang snacks at noon, and in the afternoon continue to visit the park or take a night tour of the Song Dynasty Imperial River, experiencing the prosperity of Northern Song Bianjing.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights arranged in the itinerary is Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden is located in Kaifeng, a Song culture-themed park built based on Zhang Zeduan's 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival' from the Northern Song Dynasty, restoring the Rainbow Bridge, Bian River, marketplace, and taverns from the painting, recreating the bustling life of Tokyo Bianliang. The park offers live performances and folk parades throughout the day, with the most famous being the nighttime water performance 'Great Song: Dream of Tokyo,' which uses light and shadow to recreate the grand scenes of the Northern Song capital; during the day, visitors can watch immersive folk performances such as the opening ceremony, Bao Gong welcoming guests, and rich man Wang's matchmaking. This park is also a paradise for Hanfu enthusiasts; wearing a Song-style Hanfu while strolling between the Rainbow Bridge and Bian River allows for perfect ancient-style photos. My understanding is to collect the performance schedule upon entering, plan the must-see shows and night performance times, and then wander and eat casually; visiting the marketplace during the day is the most immersive, while the night performance is a visual and auditory feast worth watching if the budget permits.

Tips: Food and drinks in the park are relatively expensive, so bringing water and small snacks is advisable. Keep an eye on your belongings. Visitors generally feel that the daytime marketplace is the most immersive, while the night show 'Great Song: Dream of Tokyo' receives mixed reviews; performance tickets are relatively pricey, so budget accordingly. Considering the actual situation, guided tours are recommended over rushed visits; listening to explanations is the essence, as the cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than photos. Ask the guide on the spot if you don't understand something.
