Anyang 4-Day Tour: Laojun Mountain & Baiyun Mountain
Anyang 4-day tour covering Laojun Mountain and Baiyun Mountain and Yuntai Mountain. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Laojun Mountain
Today's in-depth tour involves taking the cable car up the mountain to focus on the Golden Summit, the Ten-Mile Screen of Scenery, and the glass viewing platform, while following the guide to learn about Taoist culture and the geology of Funiu Mountain; in the afternoon, descend for rest to recharge for the next day.
Attraction Introduction: A major highlight arranged in the itinerary is the Golden Summit, located in Luanchuan County, Funiu Mountain's main peak, and a famous Taoist mountain, traditionally regarded as the place where the Taoist founder Laozi retreated to cultivate himself. The Golden Summit Taoist Temple complex stands atop a peak over 2,000 meters above sea level, with golden-tiled and red-walled temples and rolling clouds, earning the reputation of 'traveling far for a magnificent human feast, to glimpse the beauty of the mortal world.' The Ten-Mile Screen of Scenery is the essence of the trip—a high-altitude walkway suspended on a cliff offering changing views with each step, encompassing the peaks, clouds, and sunrise. You can take a two-stage cable car up the mountain; on sunny days, you can watch the sea of clouds and sunrise from the top, while in winter, it is a popular spot in the Central Plains for snow viewing. My understanding is that it is essential to take the cable car early to secure the best light at the Golden Summit and the Ten-Mile Screen; the top of the mountain is windy and cold, so a windbreaker and thermos are a must, and the glass viewing platform is not recommended for the faint-hearted.
Tips: The hiking paths have many steps and are steep, so it is essential to wear non-slip sports shoes; those with mobility issues are advised to use the cable car. Visitors generally agree that the Golden Summit sea of clouds and sunrise are the biggest highlights, with many staying overnight at the top to catch dawn. Keep in mind that the temperature difference at the top is significant, and queues for the cable car can be long, so during peak season, it is advisable to start early. Respect local customs according to the actual situation, dress appropriately when entering religious sites, and avoid pointing around; a simple greeting can be met with kindness.
Day 2: Baiyun Mountain
In the morning, take a vehicle up to Baiyun Mountain and climb Yuhuang Peak to see the sea of clouds; have a simple lunch on the mountaintop at noon, then in the afternoon visit Jiulong Waterfall and the Highland Peony Garden, breathe in the forest's oxygen-rich air, and descend in the evening to check in.
Attraction Introduction: This stop is at Baiyun Mountain. Baiyun Mountain is located in the heart of the Funiu Mountains in Song County. From Yuhuang Peak, you can watch the sunrise over the sea of clouds. The area has a high forest coverage and abundant negative oxygen ions, making it a natural oxygen bar. Within the scenic area, Jiulong Waterfall and the Highland Peony Garden each have their own features. It is one of the few high-altitude resort scenic areas suitable for summer cooling and autumn leaf viewing. You can use the cableway or scenic shuttle to connect the sites. The mountaintop offers a broad view with mist swirling around, looking like a fairyland. In my opinion, visiting in summer to escape the heat is most worthwhile, as the coolness of the mountains contrasts sharply with the sweltering city. Waking up early to climb Yuhuang Peak to see the sunrise over the clouds requires a bit of luck, but even if you miss the sunrise, the mountain scenery in the morning fog is beautiful enough.
Tips: There is a large temperature difference in the mountains between morning and evening, and the mountaintop wind is strong. A windproof jacket and warm base layers are necessary. Visitors generally feedback that most people think Baiyun Mountain is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide to listen to the introductions, and reserve time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Considering the actual situation, the worst thing in a group tour is rushing through the attractions. Listening to the guide is the essence, as the cultural stories behind each site are often more memorable than the photos. Ask the guide on the spot if you don't understand something.
Day 3: Yuntai Mountain
Early in the morning, take advantage of the cool weather to first visit Hongshi Gorge and Tanpu Gorge to experience the wonder of water flowing uphill; in the afternoon, you can take the cable car up to Zhuyu Peak to overlook the Taihang Mountains, and descend in the evening.
Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes several attractions, with one located in Xiuwu, which is one of the first batch of world geoparks. It is famous for the red cliffs and green waters of Hongshi Gorge, the waterfalls and streams of Tanpu Gorge, the 'tallest waterfall in Asia' Yuntai Tianpu in Quanpu Gorge, and the sea of clouds sunrise at Zhuyu Peak. It is the most representative landscape of the southern Taihang Mountains. Hongshi Gorge is the essence among the essence, a 2-kilometer-long red quartz sandstone canyon, with winding emerald waters at the bottom and crimson cliffs like clouds; Zhuyu Peak is famous due to the Tang dynasty poet Wang Wei's verse 'Planting zhuyu everywhere, one person less,' and taking the cable car to the top allows for a panoramic view of the Taihang peaks. Shuttle buses connect the scenic spots, the paths are gentle, making it suitable for family travel. My understanding is that one day is not enough to see everything, so first focus on Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley, and allow plenty of time for queues for the shuttle bus. Summer is great for enjoying the water and cooling off, and autumn is beautiful with the forest in full color, each season offers its own charm.
Tips: The mountain roads are often slippery, especially when going downhill, so keep your center of gravity back and slow down; knee pads can be useful. Visitors generally find Hongshi Gorge to be the most photogenic section, and the sea of clouds at Zhuyu Peak is also worth seeing; queues for the shuttle bus are long, so if you can't cover everything in one day, prioritize Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley. Based on experience, for authentic food, venture deeper into the alleys; the queues at the main entrance tend to be long and the taste is average. For local specialties, ask for the price first and compare; local supermarkets are often more authentic.
Day 4: Return
Transfer to the departure terminal per your booked train or flight; keep travel documents and tickets in your carry-on.
