Day 1: Jiguan Cave

Morning visit to [1], enter the Karst cave to see the variously shaped stalactites; have lunch nearby at noon, and in the afternoon you can conveniently visit [0], with one cave and one gorge complementing each other, returning in the evening.

Attraction introduction: Today's itinerary includes [1] attraction. [1] is the Karst cave in Luanchuan. Inside the cave, stalactites take on a variety of shapes; stalagmites, columns, and stone flowers change into gorgeous colors under the lights, and the temperature is constant and comfortable year-round, warm in winter and cool in summer. The cave is densely packed with scenic spots, each step brings a new view, and with an explanation, you can understand the incredible craftsmanship of geological changes over millions of years. Together with [0], one cave and one gorge complement each other, forming a classic geological wonder route in western Henan. My understanding is, when entering the cave, be sure to follow the guide. The formation and naming of the stalactites are very interesting, and it’s easy to miss the highlights on your own; the cave floor is wet and some areas are low, so wear non-slip shoes and watch your head.

Tips: The mountain sections have many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with mobility issues are advised to take the cable car up and down. Visitors generally feedback that most think [1] is worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. According to actual conditions, the biggest risk of group tours is a superficial rush-through; the essence is to listen to the explanations. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than photos, so ask the guide immediately if you don’t understand something.

Day 2: Longmen Grottoes

Arrive early in the morning, take advantage of fewer people to first visit Binyang Three Caves and Lotus Cave, then climb Fengxian Temple to admire the Great Buddha; have lunch nearby at noon, and in the afternoon visit Dongshan Grottoes and Xiangshan Temple, taking photos by the Yi River at sunset to conclude a fulfilling day.

Attraction introduction: One of the highlights arranged in the itinerary is Longmen Grottoes. Longmen Grottoes was carved on the cliffs along both sides of the Yi River in the south of Luoyang city, and its construction continued since Emperor Xiaowen of Northern Wei moved the capital to Luoyang, spanning multiple dynasties including Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, and Tang. Today, there are more than 2,300 existing niches, over 100,000 statues, and more than 2,800 inscriptions. The most impressive is the Vairocana Buddha of Fengxian Temple, over 17 meters tall, with a plump face and compassionate eyes, said to have been modeled after Wu Zetian, representing the pinnacle of Tang Dynasty stone carving art. Together with the Dunhuang Mogao Caves and Yungang Grottoes in Datong, it is considered one of China's three major grottoes and a World Cultural Heritage site. When visiting, walk south along the Yi River trail from the West Mountain Grottoes; Binyang Three Caves, Wanfodong, and Lotus Cave each have highlights. Crossing the bridge to the Dongshan Worship Terrace offers a panoramic view. My understanding is to first visit the main grotto in the West Mountain in the morning, enjoying the Great Buddha while fewer people are around, then in the afternoon go to Dongshan for distant viewing; the light and angles are best for photos then. Walking along both sides of the Yi River requires retracing steps, so a comfortable pair of shoes will save a lot of effort.

Tips: The grotto scenic area has strong UV rays; bring a sunhat and sunscreen on sunny days. The visiting route is quite long, so remember to stay hydrated. Visitors generally report that most find the Vairocana Buddha most impressive, and the sunset at West Mountain provides the best lighting for photos. Walking along both sides of the Yi River requires retracing your steps, so it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and reserve half a day. Depending on the situation, for authentic food, go deeper into the alleys, as the queues at the main gate usually have average food. For souvenirs, ask the price first and compare; local supermarkets are often more reliable.

Day 3: Henan Museum

Today's Henan Museum cultural tour offers a two-hour overview of the main lineage of Chinese civilization, focusing on national treasures such as the Jiahu bone flute and the cloud-patterned bronze ritual vessel; the afternoon is free for your own arrangements, with rest in the evening.

Attractions Introduction: One highlight arranged in the itinerary is Henan Museum. Henan Museum is a landmark of Central Plains civilization, housing over 170,000 cultural relics. It systematically presents 'Early China' along the main theme of 'the mighty Huaxia, choosing the center to establish the capital'. Among its treasures, the Jiahu bone flute is the earliest playable instrument discovered so far, rewriting the history of Chinese music; the Duling square ding and cloud-patterned bronze vessel are pinnacle creations of Shang and Zhou dynasty bronze casting; the Fu Hao owl-shaped zun is magnificent in design, telling the legendary story of Fu Hao, wife of King Wu Ding; in addition, there are national treasures like the lotus and crane square pot and Emperor Wu Zetian's gold inscription. It is recommended to follow a guide or rent an audio guide, as two hours is enough to overview the main lineage of Chinese civilization. My understanding is to first go straight to a few key treasures to enjoy them, then follow the timeline for a systematic tour, which is the most efficient way to grasp the main storyline; crowds are common in the treasure showcases, so learning the locations of the key treasures in advance and heading straight to the highlights saves the most time.

Tips: The museum is quite large, so comfortable shoes are recommended, and you can take short breaks in the rest areas along the way. Visitors generally agree that most think Henan Museum is worth a special visit. It is advised to slow down, follow the guide, and leave time for the details that impress you most and the best photo spots. Considering your actual situation, conserve your energy: tackle the highlights in the morning when you're fresh, and slow down in the afternoon; don't overexert yourself on the first day, or you won't have energy for the following days.
