Day 1: Erlitou

Today, the theme is Erlitou. Avoid peak crowds by entering the park at off-peak times and follow the recommended route for an in-depth tour; have local cuisine nearby for lunch, enjoy free activities or join the guide for additional sightseeing in the afternoon, and stay at the hotel in the evening to rest.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Erlitou attractions. The Erlitou site, located in Luoyang Yanshi, is praised by scholars as "the earliest China." It is a large urban site from the middle and late Xia Dynasty, where artifacts such as turquoise dragon-shaped objects, bronze jues, and bronze ding were unearthed, revealing the appearance of the first capital of the Huaxia civilization. The turquoise dragon-shaped object is made of more than two thousand turquoise pieces and is known as "the first dragon of Huaxia," serving as important evidence of dragon worship in China. The Erlitou Site Museum presents the archaeological site vividly and is an indispensable stop for studying the origins of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that before visiting, it is better to first learn about the scholarly controversy surrounding the "Xia Capital" and then view the exhibits for a deeper understanding; the museum's display is carefully curated and worth examining slowly.

Warm Tips: There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in the mountains, and the wind is strong at the top, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layers are very necessary. Visitors generally report that most feel Erlitou is worth a dedicated trip. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide for explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and for the best photo spots. Considering the practical situation, long trips are most prone to dehydration, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently; on the first night at high altitudes or in the mountains, avoid washing your head or taking a long bath to give your body some time to adapt.

Day 2: Jiguan Cave

Morning tour: enter the Karst cave to see the stalactites in all shapes and forms; have lunch nearby at noon, and in the afternoon you can visit the complementary site, one cave and one gorge, returning in the evening.

Attraction introduction: Today's itinerary includes one attraction, which is the Karst cave in Luanchuan. Inside the cave, the stalactites come in countless shapes. Stalagmites, stone pillars, and stone flowers transform into magnificent colors under the lights. The cave maintains a constant temperature year-round, warm in winter and cool in summer. The attractions inside are dense, changing scenery with each step. Combined with explanations, visitors can understand the marvelous geological changes of hundreds of millions of years. Together with the complementary gorge, it forms a classic geological wonder route in western Henan. My understanding is, when entering the cave, remember to follow the explanation. The formation and naming of the stalactites are very interesting, and it is easy to miss the highlights if you look on your own. The cave floor is wet and some areas are low, so wear non-slip shoes and watch your head.

Friendly tips: There are many slippery mountain roads, especially going downhill, pay attention to shifting your center of gravity back and slowing your steps; knee protectors can be prepared. Visitors generally feedback that most think the cave is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down your pace, follow the guide's explanation, and leave time for the details that touch you the most and the best photo spots. Based on your actual situation, be punctual, arrive five to ten minutes early for gatherings; it's better for people to wait for the vehicle than for the vehicle to wait for people, so you don’t hold everyone up.

Day 3: Yuntai Mountain

Start early in the morning and, while it's cool, first visit Hongshi Gorge and Tanpu Gorge to experience the spectacular phenomenon of water flowing uphill; in the afternoon, you can take the cable car up to Zhuyu Peak to overlook the Taihang Mountains, and descend in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes several attractions. One of them is located in Xiuwu and is one of the first World Geoparks, known for the red cliffs and green waters of Hongshi Gorge, the cascading waterfalls and streams of Tanpu Gorge, the 'tallest waterfall in Asia' Yuntai Tian Waterfall in Quanpu Gorge, and the sunrise sea of clouds at Zhuyu Peak. It is the most representative scenic area of the southern Taihang Mountains. Hongshi Gorge is the essence among the essence, a red quartz sandstone gorge about two kilometers long, with winding green waters at the valley floor and cliffs as red as sunset; Zhuyu Peak is famous because of the Tang dynasty poet Wang Wei's line 'Planting zhuyu everywhere, yet a person is missing.' Taking the cable car to the top offers a panoramic view of the Taihang peaks. Shuttle buses connect various points within the scenic area, and the paths are gentle, suitable for family trips. In my opinion, if one day is not enough to see everything, focus on the core attractions Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley, and allow plenty of time for queues for the scenic shuttle; in summer, it is cool and great for water activities, and in autumn, the forests are ablaze with color, each season having its own charm.

Tips: Climbing sections have many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with mobility issues are advised to take the cable car up and down. Tourists generally report that Hongshi Gorge is recognized as the most photo-worthy section, and the sea of clouds at Zhuyu Peak is also worth seeing; note that there may be long queues for the shuttle bus, so if you cannot see everything in one day, prioritize Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley. Based on actual conditions, when taking photos, do not just focus on getting good shots; pay attention to your footing and surroundings. Make sure to hold on and stand steadily at observation decks and the edges of plank paths.
