Day 1: Jiguan Cave

Today's geological trip: Follow the guide to learn about the formation of karst caves and the wonders of stalactites; in the afternoon, you can explore the surrounding area, and rest in the evening.

Attraction introduction: There is one attraction in today's itinerary. It is a karst cave in Luanchuan, where the stalactites inside take on countless shapes. Stalagmites, stone pillars, and stone flowers transform into stunning colors under the lights. The cave maintains a constant, pleasant temperature all year round, warm in winter and cool in summer. The attractions inside the cave are dense, changing scenery with every step, and with the guide's explanations, you can understand the extraordinary craftsmanship of geological changes over hundreds of millions of years. It complements other scenic spots in the area, forming a classic geological route in western Henan. My understanding is that when entering the cave, remember to follow the guide—both the formation and naming of stalactites are very interesting, and you might miss the highlights if you go alone. The cave floor is slippery, and some areas are low, so wear non-slip shoes and watch your head.

Friendly reminders: Many mountain paths are slippery, especially when going downhill—shift your weight back and slow your pace; you may want to bring a pair of knee pads. Visitors generally report that most people think this attraction is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow your pace, listen to the guide, and leave time for the details that impress you most and the best photo spots. Depending on your situation, carry some small change and individually packaged snacks, which may come in handy if the park's signal is poor or for temporary refreshment—don’t wait until you’re hungry to look for food.

Day 2: White Horse Temple

Morning visit: starting from the Shanmen (Mountain Gate) and Tianwang Hall to the Great Buddha Hall along the central axis for a detailed look, then to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard; at noon, try local dishes, and in the afternoon, visit Buddhist halls with Burmese and Indian styles to experience the exotic charm of this ancient temple.

Attraction Introduction: One key highlight in the itinerary is White Horse Temple. White Horse Temple is located east of Luoyang city, originally built during the Yongping period of the Eastern Han Dynasty, to commemorate the White Horse carrying the Buddhist scriptures and the initial spread of Buddhism to Central China. It is honored as the 'First Ancient Temple of China' and was the first government-established temple built after Buddhism entered China. Inside the temple, the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, the Great Buddha Hall, and Tianwang Hall are laid out along the central axis, with incense burning among red walls and green cypress trees for over two thousand years. It is worth mentioning that the temple also has Buddhist halls with exotic styles built as donations from countries like Myanmar, Thailand, and India, presenting a unique scene of the spread and return of Buddhist culture. My understanding is that you should first view the main halls along the central axis, then walk to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally visit the side halls with exotic styles to feel the cultural fusion; visiting early in the morning when there are few people is best, as the morning light on red walls and ancient cypresses is most atmospheric and avoids the peak of tour groups.

Tips: Please keep quiet and dress neatly when entering the temple. Generally, do not take photos or touch ritual objects inside the halls, and offer merit with a joyful heart. Visitors generally report that the exotic-style Buddhist halls (Thai, Burmese, Indian courtyards) are very photogenic and feel more spacious than expected; note that walking in the international temple area can be long, so save some energy. Considering real conditions, mountain weather can change quickly, so a windproof jacket is very practical; shoes must be non-slip and comfortable—it's better to take fewer photos than to twist your ankle.

Day 3: Free activities

Enter Longtan Grand Canyon early in the morning and take a leisurely walk along the creek trail while it's cool; it's especially refreshing in summer. In the afternoon, enjoy free activities, and you can take additional photos of the narrow sky; return in the evening.

Friendly reminder: The thing most dreaded during free activity time is being caught off guard, so it is recommended to keep your documents and cash separate, and confirm the meeting time and place with the guide in advance. Visitors generally report that many feel the free activity day is the most relaxed day and they can go at their own pace. Based on the actual situation, bring some small change and individually packed snacks with you, as they can be useful when the scenic area has poor signal or for last-minute supplies—don’t wait until you’re hungry to look for them.

Day 4: Laojun Mountain

Today's deep tour involves taking the cable car up the mountain and focusing on the Golden Summit, Ten-Mile Painted Screen, and Glass Viewing Platform, while following the guide to learn about Taoist culture and the geology of the Funiu Mountains. In the afternoon, descend the mountain to rest and recharge for the next day.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights of the itinerary is Laojun Mountain, located in Luoyang Luanchuan County. It is the main peak of the Funiu Mountains and a famous Taoist mountain, traditionally believed to be the place where the founder of Taoism, Laozi, retreated for cultivation. The Golden Summit temple complex stands atop the peak at over 2,000 meters above sea level. With golden tiles, red walls, and rolling sea of clouds, it is praised as "a magnificent feast for the eyes that astonishes the world." The Ten-Mile Painted Screen is the essence of the journey—a high-altitude plank road suspended on a cliff, offering ever-changing views of peak forests, sea of clouds, and sunrise. Visitors can take a two-stage cable car up the mountain. On clear days, the summit offers views of the sea of clouds and sunrise, and in winter it is a very popular snow-viewing spot in the Central Plains. My advice is to take the cable car early to secure the best light at the Golden Summit and Ten-Mile Painted Screen; the top of the mountain is windy and cold, so a windbreaker and thermos are essential. The glass viewing platform is not recommended for the faint-hearted.

Tips: Mountain paths can be slippery, especially on the descent, so keep your weight back and slow down; knee protectors are recommended. Visitors generally consider the Golden Summit sea of clouds and sunrise the biggest highlights, and many specifically stay overnight on the summit to catch the dawn. Note that there is a large temperature difference at the summit and long queues for the cable car, so be sure to go early in peak season. Depending on your situation, keep documents and wallets separate, and take photos of important documents on your phone as a backup, so that in case of loss, they can be quickly replaced without affecting your trip.
