Day 1: Jiaozuo

Today's in-depth tour: After taking the cable car up the mountain, focus on visiting the Golden Summit, the Ten-Mile Painting Screen, and the glass viewing platform, and follow the guide to learn about Taoist culture and the geology of the Funiu Mountains; in the afternoon, descend the mountain to rest and prepare for the next day.

Attraction introduction: Today's itinerary includes 2 attractions, both located within 1 UNESCO Global Geopark, featuring the red cliffs and green water of Hongshi Gorge, the waterfalls and streams of Tanpu Gorge, and the sea of clouds at Zhuyu Peak for sunrise, representing the essence of Taihang Mountain scenery. My understanding is that when hiking, you must act within your limits; use the cable car whenever possible, but people with knee problems should not force themselves to walk. The scenery is not for showing off.

Warm tips: There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in the mountains, and it is windy at the summit, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layer are essential. Visitors generally feedback that most people think these 2 attractions are worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide’s explanation, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Take practical considerations into account, respect local customs, dress appropriately when visiting religious sites, do not point casually, and a simple greeting can bring goodwill.

Day 2: Laojun Mountain

Morning tour: Walk along the Liubutan and Yixiantian trails by the water, and observe the wonder of the Red Rock Gorge and water flowing uphill; have a simple lunch in the scenic area at noon, continue exploring in the afternoon, and return in the evening.

Attraction introduction: One highlight arranged in the itinerary is Laojun Mountain. Laojun Mountain is located in Luoyang, Luanchuan County, and is the main peak of Funiu Mountain. It is also a famous Taoist mountain, traditionally believed to be the place where the founder of Taoism, Laozi, retired and cultivated. The Jin Ding Taoist Temple complex stands on a peak over two thousand meters above sea level, with golden tiles and red walls amidst surging clouds, earning a reputation of "a breathtaking feast on Earth, a glimpse of the world's grandeur." The Ten-Mile Painted Screen is the essence of the trip, a high-altitude plank road on the cliff that offers changing views with every step, capturing the peak forest, sea of clouds, and sunrise. Visitors can take a two-stage cable car up the mountain; on clear days, the summit offers sunrise over the sea of clouds, and in winter, it is a highly popular snow-viewing spot in Central China. My advice is to get to the cable car early to catch the best light at the Jin Ding and the Ten-Mile Painted Screen; the summit is windy and cold, so a windproof jacket and thermos are essential, and those afraid of heights should avoid the glass viewing platform.

Tips: Many mountain paths are slippery, and extra caution should be taken when going downhill—shift your center of gravity back and slow your steps. Knee pads are recommended. Visitors generally agree that the sea of clouds and sunrise at Jin Ding are the main highlights; many even stay overnight on the summit to see the dawn. Be reminded that the temperature difference at the summit is large, and cable car lines may be long, so in peak season, arrive early. Considering the actual situation, the worst case in a group tour is a rushed visit; listening to the guide is the essence, as the cultural stories behind each attraction are often more unforgettable than photos. If you don’t understand something, ask the guide on the spot.

Day 3: Free activities

Start early in the morning at Chongdugou, enjoy the cool weather while walking along the bamboo forest trail and viewing the waterfall clusters, which is suitable for a leisurely family stroll; in the afternoon, there is free time for activities, for catching up on photos or taking a short rest, and return in the evening.

Tips: On the free activity day, taking a taxi or walking is convenient. Check your destinations and routes in advance, and mark the shops and attractions you want to visit on the map. Tourists generally report that most visitors use the free activity day to sleep in, then go sightseeing, eating, or taking photos, enjoying a relaxed pace. Take the actual situation into account, respect local customs, dress appropriately when entering religious sites, avoid pointing carelessly, and a simple greeting can bring goodwill.
