Zhengzhou 5-Day Tour: Henan Only Show & Shaolin Temple
Zhengzhou 5-day tour covering Henan Only Show and Shaolin Temple and Wanxianshan. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Only Henan
Early in the morning, go to the Theater Fantasy City, first watch the main theater performances, then hop around to the smaller theaters; in the afternoon, freely choose the sessions, immerse yourself in the culture of Central Plains civilization, and return in the evening.
Attraction Introduction: A major highlight arranged in the itinerary is Theater Fantasy City. Situated in Zhongmu, it is a giant theatrical settlement built with rammed earth. Through more than twenty theaters and nearly a hundred performances, it showcases the hardships, harvests, and resilience of Central Plains civilization. The main theater performances such as "Fantasy City," "Train Station," and "Li Family Village" are highly acclaimed, while the small theaters each have their own unique creativity, with the imagery of wheat fields running throughout. It is a phenomenal cultural tourism landmark in the area. This is not a traditional attraction but an immersive cultural experience. My understanding is that you should dedicate a full day, first schedule the main theater performance, then intersperse visits to the small theaters; book tickets in advance through official channels and check the show schedule carefully, as popular sessions often sell out.
Warm Tips: The canyon walkway is along water and cliffs, so do not climb over railings or play in dangerous areas, and watch your accompanying children. Visitors generally report that Theater Fantasy City offers an immersive experience that young people love, but the tickets are expensive and it is time-consuming; it is advised to select the core theaters and allow at least half a day. Depending on the situation, keep your documents and wallet separate, take photos of important documents to back them up on your phone. In case of loss, you can quickly replace them without disrupting your trip.
Day 2: Shaolin Temple
Today's Shaolin Temple trip took a close look from the mountain gate to the Sutra Pavilion, focusing on the solemnity of the pagoda forest and the awe of the martial arts performance; In the afternoon, we toured the surrounding area, then checked into the hotel in the evening.
Attraction introduction: Today's itinerary includes Shaolin Temple attractions. Shaolin Temple is located at the foot of Wuru Peak on Shaoshi Mountain in Dengfeng. It was first built in the 19th year of Taihe of the Northern Wei Dynasty (495 AD). It is both the ancestral temple of Chan Buddhism and the birthplace of Shaolin martial arts, with a history of over 1,500 years. The core highlights are concentrated in three places: the main temple is lined with the central axis as the mountain gate, Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, Sutra Library, and Snow Pavilion, with halls and ancient steles lined up; The Pagoda Forest is the largest existing ancient pagoda complex in China, with over 200 brick and stone tomb pagodas from the Tang, Song, to Qing dynasties, each with a different form, corresponding to a high monk; The Bodhidharma Cave on Wuru Peak is said to be where Bodhidharma faced the wall for nine years. The martial arts hall hosts Shaolin martial arts performances at scheduled times every day, showcasing the true skills of boxing, weapons, and hard qigong. My understanding is that before entering the temple, you should first follow the guide along the central axis before freely exploring the area; Please keep quiet and tour the pagoda forest area; Enter the martial arts show fifteen minutes early to secure a good spot.
Friendly reminder: There are many incense stalls around the temple. Please buy incense as needed and consume rationally. Visitors generally report that martial arts performances are most popular with families with children, while the Pagoda Forest and Chuzu Nunnery are often overlooked along the way. A reminder: the scenic area is highly commercialized; ask about prices for vegetarian vegetarian and surrounding areas first. Depending on the situation, bring some change and small packs of snacks. These can be useful when the scenic area has poor signal or when supplies are needed. Don't wait until you're hungry.
Day 3: Wanxian Mountain
Gather in the morning and depart for Wanxian Mountain, following the tour guide along the main route to visit all the key spots, allowing ample time for photos and rest; enjoy local specialty dishes at noon, continue exploring in the afternoon, and check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.
Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights arranged in the itinerary is Wanxian Mountain. The Wanxian Mountain Scenic Area is located deep in the Taihang Mountains of Huixian, including Guoliang Cliff Road and Nanping Danfen Gully. Red cliffs and cascading clear pools intertwine, making it one of the most representative mountain and water galleries in the Taihang Mountains. It is well-known for being featured in several films and TV shows. Attractions such as Guoliang Village, Tianchi, and the watchtower form an impressive Taihang hiking route. The summer temperature is pleasant, and it is a place to get close to the Taihang mountains just a short distance from Zhengzhou and Luoyang. My understanding is that the hiking involves a large volume and many steps, so be sure to wear anti-slip shoes; pay attention to oncoming traffic on the cliff road segment, and the red cliffs are best photographed in the early morning and evening light.
Tips: The mountain paths have many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. For those with mobility issues, it is recommended to use the cable car. Visitors generally report that the cliff road (Guoliang Tunnel) is the most impressive and photo-worthy, but the mountain roads can often cause motion sickness; it is advised to bring motion sickness medicine and walk slowly while enjoying the viewpoints. Considering actual conditions, the weather in the mountains can change suddenly, so a windproof jacket is more practical than anything else; shoes must be non-slip and comfortable, and it is better to take fewer photos than to sprain an ankle.
