Jiaozuo 6-Day Tour: Scenic Area & Laojun Mountain
Jiaozuo 6-day tour covering Scenic Area and Laojun Mountain and Erlitou Site. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Jiaozuo
In the morning, take the cable car up Laojun Mountain, visit the Jin Ding Taoist temple complex; if the weather is clear, you might see the sea of clouds. At noon, have a simple meal at the mountaintop, and in the afternoon, walk the Ten-Mile Painted Screen Trail, overlook the mountains from the glass viewing platform. In the evening, descend the mountain and check into the hotel.
Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Jiaozuo attractions, Jiaozuo of which are located in Yuntai Mountain World Geopark. Hongshixia features red cliffs and green water, Tanpuxia has waterfalls and flowing streams, and Zhuyu Peak offers sunrise views over the sea of clouds. These are the essence of the mountains and waters of the Taihang Mountains. In my understanding, when climbing, you must act within your limits; use the cable car where possible, but if your knees are not strong, do not force yourself to hike. Scenery is not about showing off strength.
Tips: The mountain paths are often slippery, especially when going downhill, pay attention to shifting your center of gravity backward and slow down your pace. Knee pads are recommended. According to general tourist feedback, most travelers think Jiaozuo is worth a special visit. It is suggested to slow down, follow the guide to listen to explanations, and leave time for the details that touch you the most and the best photo spots. Considering practical situations, long journeys are especially prone to dehydration, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently. On the first night at a plateau or mountainous area, do not wash your hair or take long showers, give your body some time to adapt.
Day 2: Laojun Mountain
Set off early from the hotel straight to Erlitou, first listen to the tour guide's introduction about the background and highlights, then explore at your own pace and take additional photos according to your interests; after lunch, take a short rest, and return to the hotel in the evening to save energy for the next day.
Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights arranged in the itinerary is Laojun Mountain. Laojun Mountain is located in Luoyang, Luanchuan County, and is the main peak of the Funiu Mountains as well as a famous Taoist mountain, traditionally believed to be the place where the Taoist founder Laozi retired for cultivation. The group of temples at the Golden Summit stands atop the peak at an elevation of over 2,000 meters. With golden tiles and red walls against a backdrop of rolling sea of clouds, it is praised as "a rare human spectacle, a glimpse of the flourishing world". The Ten-Mile Screen is the essence of the whole route, a high-altitude walkway suspended along the cliff offering changing views, capturing the peak forest, cloud sea, and sunrise in full view. Visitors can take a two-stage cable car to ascend the mountain. On clear days, you can watch the sunrise over the cloud sea, and in winter, it is a very popular place for snow viewing in the Central Plains. My understanding is that it is essential to take the cable car early to secure good light for the Golden Summit and Ten-Mile Screen; it is windy and cold at the top, so a windproof jacket and a thermos are must-haves. If you are faint-hearted, avoid the glass viewing platform.
Tips: The hiking sections have many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes; those with mobility issues are advised to use the cable car. Visitors generally agree that the Golden Summit, cloud sea, and sunrise are the main highlights, with many staying overnight at the summit to catch the dawn. Note that there is a large temperature difference at the summit and long cable car lines, so it is important to go early during peak season. Based on actual conditions, keep track of time, arrive five to ten minutes early for assembly, and remember that it is better for people to wait for the vehicle than for the vehicle to wait for you; do not make everyone wait for you.
Day 3: Erlitou
Today's vacation trip: Take the cableway and sightseeing bus to connect Yuhuang Peak, Jiulong Waterfall, and Alpine Peony Garden, enjoying a relaxed pace; free activities in the afternoon, rest in the evening.
Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes 0 attractions. The 0 site is located in Yanshi and is regarded by scholars as 'the earliest China.' It is a large city site from the middle and late Xia dynasty, where turquoise dragon-shaped artifacts, bronze jue, bronze ding, and other significant items have been unearthed, revealing the appearance of the first capital of the Huaxia civilization. The turquoise dragon-shaped artifact is made of more than 2,000 pieces of turquoise inlaid together, known as 'the first dragon of Huaxia,' and is important evidence of dragon worship in China. The 0 site museum presents an archaeological site atmosphere and is an essential stop for studying the origins of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that visiting with an understanding of the academic controversies surrounding the 'Xia capital' beforehand and then viewing the exhibits leads to a deeper comprehension; the museum displays are carefully arranged and worth taking time to observe.
Tips: The mountainous area has large temperature differences between day and night, and the mountaintop is windy, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layers are necessary. Visitors generally report that most believe the 0 site is worth making a special trip for. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details and photo spots that impress you most. In practice, when taking photos, don't just focus on getting the picture; pay attention to your footing and surrounding environment. Make sure to hold steady and stand properly on observation decks and trail edges.
