Day 1: Mount Song

Today's theme is Mount Song, avoiding peak crowds and entering the park in depth; Enjoy local flavors nearby at noon, free time or guided tours in the afternoon, and stay at the hotel to rest in the evening.

Attraction introduction: One highlight of the itinerary is Mount Song. Mount Song is the Central Mountain among the Five Great Mountains, mainly located in Dengfeng City, divided into Taishi and Shaoshi Mountains. The main peak, Junji Peak, rises to about 1492 meters. Its most special feature is that Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism have been adjacent to each other for thousands of years on the same mountain: Songyang Academy was a major center for Neo-Confucianism in the Song Dynasty, and the famous story 'Standing in Snow at Chengmen' is said to have happened here; Zhongyue Temple is one of the largest and best-preserved temple complexes among the Five Great Mountains; The Star Observatory in Gaocheng Town was built under the supervision of Guo Shoujing during the Yuan Dynasty and is one of the oldest existing astronomical observation buildings. In 2010, the "Center of Heaven and Earth" historical architectural complex, represented by Songyang Academy, Zhongyue Temple, Songyue Temple Pagoda, Shaolin Temple Regular Residence, Pagoda Forest, First Patriarch's Hermitage, and Star Observation Platform, was inscribed on the World Heritage List. My understanding is that on the first day, there's no need to overindulge—first visit the academy and Zhongyue Temple to understand the ritual system of "Heaven and Earth in the Center," saving the energy for hiking later; If you have extra time, going to the Sanhuangzhai plank road on Shaoshi Mountain in the evening to watch the sunset is the most photogenic part of the entire trip.

Friendly reminder: The climbing section has many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with mobility difficulties are advised to take the cable car up and down. Visitors generally agree that Mount Song is worth a special trip. It's recommended to slow down and follow the guide to listen to the explanations, saving time for the most impressive details and the best camera angles. Depending on the situation, shoot early or late—early mornings with few people and soft light at dusk are best for photos; at noon, the top is cramped and flat, so it's more cost-effective to rest.

Day 2: Henan Museum

Visit Henan Museum in the morning, following the guide to see treasures like the Jiahu bone flute and Fuhao Owl Zun; At noon, try local dishes; in the afternoon, visit the Shangdu ruins or Yellow River scenic area, and return in the evening.

Attraction introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Henan Museum, which is a coordinates of Central Plains civilization. The museum houses over 170,000 artifacts, presenting 'Early China' with the main theme of 'Vast China, Choosing the Central Capital for Capitalization.' Among the museum's treasures, the Jiahu bone flute is the earliest discovered playable instrument, rewriting the history of Chinese music; The Duling square ding and cloud-patterned bronze jin are the pinnacle of Shang and Zhou bronze casting; The Lady Hao Owl Zun is grandly shaped, telling the legend of Fu Hao, wife of King Wu Ding; There are also national treasure-level artifacts such as the lotus-crane square pot and Wu Zetian's golden slips. It is recommended to follow the guide or rent an interpreter to gain a two-hour overview of the main lineage of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that first go straight to a few treasures to enjoy yourself, then browse according to the timeline system—this is the most efficient way to grasp the main storyline; It's normal for people to be crowded in front of the national treasure display cabinets, so knowing the location of the treasures in advance saves you time by heading straight to the main topic.

Friendly reminder: Flash is prohibited inside the museum, and please do not touch the exhibits. Follow the explanation closely and stay quiet. Visitors generally report that most believe Henan Museum is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down and follow the guide to listen to the explanation, saving time for the most moving details and the best camera angles. Based on actual conditions, dehydration is the worst on long trips; carry a water bottle and drink water in small amounts frequently; On the first night in plateau or mountainous areas, don't wash your hair or shower too long, giving your body some room to adjust.

Day 3: Free Activities

Early in the morning, enter Shaolin Temple to listen to an explanation of the Zen ancestral history, then watch martial arts performances and visit the Pagoda Forest; Free time in the afternoon includes climbing Mount Song Shaoshi Mountain or retaking sessions that often require hospitalization, then return in the evening.

Friendly reminder: The biggest fear in free time is getting caught off guard at the last minute. It's recommended to separate your ID and cash and confirm the meeting time and place with the guide in advance. Frequent travelers generally say they prefer to save free time days for local food and streets to experience the most authentic city life. Depending on the situation, it's best to shoot early or late—the morning is quiet and the light is soft, the golden glow at dusk is best for photos, and the noon ceiling is cramped and flat, so it's more cost-effective to rest.
