Day 1: Mount Song

Gather in the morning and depart for Mount Song, follow the guide along the main route, visit the highlights one by one, and allow plenty of time for photos and rest; Enjoy local specialties at noon, continue deeper in the afternoon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction introduction: One highlight of the itinerary is Mount Song. Mount Song is the Central Mountain among the Five Great Mountains, mainly located in Dengfeng City, divided into Taishi and Shaoshi Mountains. The main peak, Junji Peak, rises to about 1492 meters. Its most special feature is that Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism have been adjacent to each other for thousands of years on the same mountain: Songyang Academy was a major center for Neo-Confucianism in the Song Dynasty, and the famous story 'Standing in Snow at Chengmen' is said to have happened here; Zhongyue Temple is one of the largest and best-preserved temple complexes among the Five Great Mountains; The Star Observatory in Gaocheng Town was built under the supervision of Guo Shoujing during the Yuan Dynasty and is one of the oldest existing astronomical observation buildings. In 2010, the "Center of Heaven and Earth" historical architectural complex, represented by Songyang Academy, Zhongyue Temple, Songyue Temple Pagoda, Shaolin Temple Regular Residence, Pagoda Forest, First Patriarch's Hermitage, and Star Observation Platform, was inscribed on the World Heritage List. My understanding is that on the first day, there's no need to overindulge—first visit the academy and Zhongyue Temple to understand the ritual system of "Heaven and Earth in the Center," saving the energy for hiking later; If you have extra time, going to the Sanhuangzhai plank road on Shaoshi Mountain in the evening to watch the sunset is the most photogenic part of the entire trip.

Friendly reminder: The mountain roads are slippery, so be sure to shift your center of gravity and slow down when going downhill. Prepare a pair of knee pads. Visitors generally agree that Mount Song is worth a special trip. It's recommended to slow down and follow the guide to listen to the commentary, saving time for the most impressive details and the best camera angles. Considering actual conditions, the biggest fear in group tours is skimming the scenes; listening to the explanations is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than photos. If you don't understand something, ask the guide on the spot.

Day 2: Free Activities

Early in the morning, enter Shaolin Temple, first listen to an explanation of the Chan ancestral history, then watch martial arts performances and visit the Pagoda Forest; In the afternoon, free time can be explored, including climbing Mount Song Shaoshi Mountain or retaking photos often requiring hospitalization, returning in the evening.

Friendly reminder: Free time is suitable for catching up on sleep and strolling. It's recommended to rest in the morning and eat and stroll according to your interests in the afternoon. Don't stay too late at night and affect your schedule the next day. Visitors generally report that most spend their free days sleeping until they wake up naturally, then go shopping, eat, and take photos, making for a very relaxed experience. Based on the actual situation, be punctual. Gather five to ten minutes early. Better to wait for the bus than for the car—don't make everyone wait for you.

Day 3: Red Flag Canal

Today's Red Flag Canal Red Tour: Follow the guide through Youth Cave and Fen Shui Garden to understand the feats of the 1960s; In the afternoon, you can also visit the surrounding area, and rest in the evening.

Attraction introduction: One of the highlights included in the itinerary is Red Flag Canal. Red Flag Canal is the 'artificial Heavenly River' carved by the people of Linzhou on the sheer cliffs of the Taihang Mountains in the 1960s. It is over 1,500 kilometers long, leveling 1,250 peaks, erecting more than 150 aqueducts, and drilling more than 200 tunnels. It took nearly ten years to complete, serving as a monument to the Chinese nation's spirit of self-improvement. Youth Cave is the most dangerous section of the entire route, carved out by 300 young commandos on a sheer cliff; Fenshuiyuan and Red Flag Canal Memorial Hall fully narrate the arduous canal construction. This is a combination of red education and the magnificent scenery of Taihang, and today it is also a breathtaking cultural landmark. My understanding is that you should first visit the memorial hall to understand the canal construction background, then walk through Youth Cave to truly appreciate the canal's significance; Walk along the canal within your means, wear non-slip shoes, and watch your step.

Friendly reminder: In mountainous areas, there is a large temperature difference between morning and evening, and winds are strong at the summit. A windproof jacket and warm inner layer are very necessary. Visitors generally report that the "Artificial Heavenly River" has strong spiritual landmark attributes, making it resonant with middle-aged visitors; remind visitors that the exhibition hall explanations are worth listening to and can understand that history. Based on actual conditions, leave some room for physical activity. Focus on the main event in the morning and slow down in the afternoon to avoid overexertion on the first day and a sluggish following days.
