Day 1: Laojun Mountain

In the morning, take the cable car up Laojun Mountain to the Golden Summit Daoist Temple Complex. On clear days, you can encounter a sea of clouds; Have a light meal at the summit at noon, then walk the ten-li Huaping Trail in the afternoon, overlooking the mountains from a glass viewing platform, and descend in the evening to check into the hotel.

Attraction introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Laojun Mountain, located in Luanchuan County Luoyang. It is the main peak of Funiu Mountain and a famous Taoist mountain, said to be the place where Laozi, the founder of Taoism, retired for cultivation. The Golden Summit Daoist temple cluster stands atop a peak over 2,000 meters above sea level. Its golden tiles and red walls and surging sea of clouds are renowned as "a spectacular feast on earth and a glimpse of the flourishing world." The Ten-Mile Painted Screen is the highlight of the entire trip. A high-altitude plank road suspended above a sheer cliff changes views with every step, offering panoramic views of peaks, forests, sea of clouds, and sunrises. You can take a two-level cable car up the mountain; on sunny days, you can watch the sea of clouds and sunrise from the summit. In winter, it is a highly popular snow-viewing spot in the Central Plains. My understanding is: be sure to take the cable car up the mountain early to seize the golden summit and the beautiful scenery of the Ten-Mile Painting Screen; At the summit, the wind is strong and the temperature low; a windbreaker and thermos bottle are standard, and the glass observation deck is a must-have.

Friendly reminder: The mountain roads are quite slippery, so be sure to shift your center of gravity and slow down when going downhill. It's a good idea to bring a pair of knee pads. Visitors generally report that the Golden Summit Sea of Clouds and sunrise are recognized as the biggest highlights, and many people make the special trip to the summit to wait for dawn. Reminder: The temperature difference at the summit is large and the cable car queue is long, so be sure to arrive early during peak season. Based on actual conditions, don't just focus on taking photos—pay attention to your feet and surroundings, and be sure to stand firmly at the edges of the viewing platform and boardwalk.

Day 2: Baiyun Mountain

Rise early to climb [0], first ascend to Yuhuang Peak to watch the sea of clouds and sunrise, then visit the Nine Dragons Waterfall; in the afternoon, take a leisurely stroll along forest trails—escape the heat in summer or enjoy the red leaves in autumn—and return in the evening.

Attraction introduction: This stop is [0], located in the heart of Funiu Mountains in Song County. From Yuhuang Peak, you can view the sea of clouds and sunrise. With high forest coverage and abundant negative ions, it is a natural oxygen bar. The scenic area features the Nine Dragons Waterfall and the High Mountain Peony Garden, each with its own charm. It is a rare mountain resort-style destination for summer heat escapes and autumn leaf viewing. You can connect the attractions via cable car or scenic shuttle. At the mountaintop, the views are expansive, with swirling clouds and mist, creating a fairy-tale landscape. In my view, visiting in summer for the cool mountain air is the most worthwhile, contrasting sharply with the intense heat of the city; waking up early to climb Yuhuang Peak for the sea of clouds sunrise requires some luck, but even if you miss the sunrise, the morning mist over the mountains is beautiful enough.

Tips: The hiking trails have many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with mobility issues are advised to use the cable car. Visitors generally feel that most consider [0] worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide for explanations, and leave time for the details that move you the most and the best photo spots. Depending on the situation, the best times for photos are early morning or late afternoon—early morning is less crowded with soft light, and evening has golden hues; midday provides harsh top-down light and crowds, so it’s better for resting.

Day 3: Longmen Grottoes

Today's tour Longmen Grottoes suggests spending half a day: the main cave of Xishan Mountain, the East Mountain Grandstand, and Baiyuan of Xiangshan Temple are all connected, followed by explanations to understand the stories behind the stone carvings of the Northern Wei and flourishing Tang dynasties; Return in the evening to rest.

Attraction introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Longmen Grottoes, carved into the cliffs on both banks of the Yi River south of Luoyang city. Since Emperor Xiaowen of Northern Wei moved the capital to Luoyang, construction has continued through Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, Tang, and other dynasties. There are over 2,300 cave niches, over 100,000 statues, and more than 2,800 inscriptions and inscriptions preserved. The most impressive is the Vairocana Buddha at Fengxian Temple, standing over 17 meters tall, with a plump face and benevolent eyes. Legend has it that it was carved after Wu Zetian's likeness, marking the pinnacle of Tang dynasty stone carving art. Along with Dunhuang Mogao Caves and Datong Yungang, it is one of China's three great grottoes and a World Cultural Heritage site. When touring, head south along the Yi River trail from the Xishan Grottoes, where Binyang Three Caves, Ten Thousand Buddha Caves, and Lotus Cave each have highlights. Cross the bridge to the Dongshan Buddha Worship Platform for a panoramic view. My understanding is that in the morning, first visit the main cave of Xishan and admire the Big Buddha while there are fewer people; in the afternoon, go to the Dongshan Viewing Platform for the best lighting and angle; If you need to walk backward along both banks of the Yi River, a pair of comfortable shoes can save you a lot of effort.

Friendly reminder: UV rays in the grotto scenic area are quite strong. On sunny days, bring a sun hat and sunscreen, and remember to stay hydrated during long visits. Visitors generally report that most find the Vairocana Buddha the most breathtaking, and the sunset on the western hills offers the best lighting; If you need to walk back along both banks of the Yi River, it's recommended to wear comfortable shoes and reserve half a day. Based on actual conditions, dehydration is the worst on long trips; carry a water bottle and drink water in small amounts frequently; On the first night in plateaus or mountains, don't wash your hair or take too long to give your body some room to adjust.
